Surprise! Some highly trained pediatricians subscribe to Old Wive’s Tales. In a study led by Dr. Andrew Adesman, himself a Pediatrician, questionnaires were sent to 5,000 Board certified pediatricians, to find out if pediatricians agree with certain incorrect statements such as chicken pox is not contagious before the rash appears, eating chocolate causes acne, Dr. Adesman learned from the study that some do, saying,, “Some of these parenting myths are so prevalent…that even pediatricians endorse them. Rather disconcerting, given the potential implications to small children. And in the area of spiritual truth, myths are also believed. One of the most popular is that if your good deeds outweigh your bad deeds, that makes you a Christian and is the doorway to heaven. But the Bible clearly says that is not true. It tells us what is true. “By grace are you saved through faith, and that not of your selves, it is the gift of God, not by works lest anyone should boast.”
