Having a BBQ – May 16

We are entering the season when some people are having, and a lot of people are planning on having a bbq. Barbequed steaks, hamburgers, chicken grilled with your favorite bbq sauce. Having a bbq is so enjoyable and then comes the best part, eating. The bible has some direction in relation to eating that is interesting to ponder. It reads in 1 Corinthians 10:31, Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God. A question could be asked how do you do this? Well another passage sheds light on this, Acts 17:25 which reads, He gives to all life, breath, and all things. We can eat food to the glory of God by recognizing the very taste buds we have, that allow us to enjoy the food we eat, were designed by an awesome God. Something to ponder!

Getting Fixed – May 13

We have a chicken coup in our back yard that I built inside an existing shed. In order to add airflow I cut an 8 foot length of pipe to fit from the coup to the back of the shed. To install the pipe properly it had to be on a downward slant to allow for any condensation to drain out of the shed and away from the chicken coup. I was in a rush so I just eyed up where I thought the hole in the shed should go for the pipe. After I put the pipe in place, it did not look right, so I went and found my level to make sure. The level revealed I had been too rushed. The hole I had cut was too high and had to be lowered. The Bible is to act like a level in a person’s life. A person may think they measure up to God’s standard but we all fall short. Romans 3:23 reads… for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. Thankfully Jesus provided a way this can be fixed.

Benefits of Drinking Coffee – May 11

For coffee lovers there was some encouraging information put out recently that came from three different studies. In an article put out by CNN health entitled, Drinking coffee could benefit your heart and help you live longer, it shared that according to three research abstracts drinking two to three cups of coffee daily has been associated with a ten to fifteen percent lower risk of getting heart disease, heart failure, or a heart rhythm, or dying early for any health related reason. Who would think coffee could be an aid in living longer. Did you know the Bible also has information that has to do with a means of not simply living longer but living eternally with God in heaven? John 3:16 reads, For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

True Rest – May 9

Various studies have shown that people tend to be getting less sleep than they used to. In our modern society days are shorter, calendars are fuller, stress levels are higher. A lot of people face tossing and turning at night rather than a good night sleep. Physical rest is essential to our health and our ability to handle the challenges that we face each and every day. There are various practical aids that a person can implement such as avoiding blue light exposure in the evenings, eating properly, exercise. These are various helps and anyone who cannot sleep is seeking a solution. A solution each and everyone of us needs to find has to do with rest for our souls. In the Bible, in the book of Matthew 11:29 Jesus says this, Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

Consider Your Ways – May 6

If you were to look up synonyms for the word ponder you would find such words as meditate, contemplate, muse, reflect. It can be something that we all struggle to do with all of the distractions that are around us. Sometimes we need to be told to stop and consider what is really important and the direction we are headed in life. In the Bible, in the book of Haggai it reads, “thus says the LORD of hosts: “Consider your ways! “You have sown much, and bring in little; You eat, but do not have enough; You drink, but you are not filled with drink; You clothe yourselves, but no one is warm; And he who earns wages, Earns wages to put into a bag with holes.” The bible also gives direction on where to find real satisfaction. Jesus shares this in the book of John, I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.

Rescued from a Shark Bite – May 4

Recently a fisherman who was bitten by a shark near Bahamas was pulled to safety by a U.S. Coast Guard helicopter after a crewmember tightened a tourniquet around his arm. Sean Connett, command duty officer at Coast Guard District 7 was quoted as saying, “This individual was fortunate a fellow crew member was able to render aid prior to the Coast Guard’s arrival which, allowed for a quick extraction from the vessel.” Due to the actions of another this individual was saved. Did you know the Bible makes it known that due to the actions of another you can be saved? John 3:16 reads, For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

Fallen Moose – May 2

Recently a moose had fallen through a large snow-covered window well and into the basement of a house in Colorado. Upon discovery, the home owners were left with a huge problem. How do you get a moose out of your basement? Police officers and fire fighters arrived on the scene and the only option was to have a number of people carry the large animal upstairs and released it outside. What a dilemma having to figure out how to remove a moose from one’s basement. There is a spiritual dilemma everyone faces that is of an infinitely more important manner. It has to do with the removal of one’s sin. In relation to having sorrow for one’s sins and seeking to turn from them through trusting in Jesus Christ as ones Savior 1 John 1:9 reads, “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

Life is Like a Vapor April 29

Recently there was a study that revealed the first-ever record of brain activity during death and the results were very fascinating. Researches had set out to measure the brainwaves of an 87 year old patient who had developed epilepsy. During the neurological recordings the patient suffered an unexpected fatal heart attack offering an unexpected recording of a dying brain. In the 30 seconds before and after the patient died, his brainwaves were the same as those that occur when dreaming or recalling memories. Hence the expression my life flashed before my eyes may not be too far off. Something that we do know about life that is bang on has to do with its length. The Bible reveals that life is like a vapor, it appears for a little time and then vanishes away.

Stuck in a Drain Pipe April 27

Last month a man was stuck in a storm pipe 4.5 meters underground in the San Francisco Bay area in California. He was stuck in this storm pipe that was the size of a large pizza for two days before people passing by heard his cries for help and went to seek assistance. The rescue involved more than 50 fire fighters, police officers and rescue personnel but after a few hours the man was freed. A testimony of one the fire fighters in relation to the man who was rescued was, “he was beyond happy to be above ground.” Did you know the Bible shares about a rescue and those whom have experienced it are beyond happy? John 3:16 reads, For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

Was Lost and Was Found April 25

BBC news reported how two indigenous boys, ages six and eight, were lost almost four weeks in Brazil’s Amazon Rain Forest but thankfully were found by a local tree cutter. One can only imagine the joy the parents would of felt knowing their children have been found. We love hearing stories that turn out well. Did you know Jesus shared a story of something being lost and then found in the book of Luke? He said, “Or what woman, having ten silver coins, if she loses one coin, does not light a lamp, sweep the house, and search carefully until she finds it? 9 And when she has found it, she calls her friends and neighbors together, saying, ‘Rejoice with me, for I have found the piece which I lost!’ Likewise, I say to you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.”
