Tragic Accident on the Set of “Rust” December 6

The “Rust” set accidental shooting death of Halyna Hutchins, by Alec Baldwin has left a lot questions unanswered. How could such a thing happen? What could be done to avoid it happening in the future? Something we do know is the life of a young lady came to an end in an instant. There is something we can all learn from such occurrences as this and that is we never truly know what day will be our last. Did you know the Bible pictures the briefness of life as being like a vapor? Something that appears for a little while and then vanishes away. The Bible also tells us that through embracing Jesus Christ as our Saviour we can know we will be with Him for eternity. Romans 6:23 reads, For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Invitation to All December 3

I read an article a while back about a gentleman from Capetown, South Africa sharing his experience of inviting a number of celebrities of his and his future wife’s choosing to their wedding. A number of those whom they contacted or their representatives took the effort to respond whether they could go or not. Some of those whom responded included Jamie Oliver, John Travolta, and Prince Charles. There is an awesome invitation that God has extended and it is not limited to celebrities but it includes everyone. It is found in the book of John in chapter 3 verse 16 which reads, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” The invitation is given the question is how are you going to respond?

Keeping the right focus December 1

Recently a crew on a container ship anchored off of Victioria BC were focused on getting rescued by the Coast Guard and thankfully they were. The ship originally lost 40 containers oversea in rough waters and then after the storm settled down it became apparent that one of the containers caught fire and spread to other containers on the ship. It was a hard voyage for the crew. Do you ever feel like there are so many hardships in life that you are going to be consumed? The Bible informs us that there will be hardships, storms that will occur in our lives but it has instruction in regard to the proper focus during those storms. The foucs is not to be on the storms but on God. In the book of Isaiah, chapter 26 verse 3 it reads, “You will keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you because he trusts in you.

1 in 4 Trillion November 30

Last month Ruth Hamilton of Golden, British Columbia was in bed and all of a sudden, she heard a dog bark and then an explosion. She instantly jumped and turned on the light and quickly spotted a fist size hole in her ceiling. She later came to realize that the hole was from a meteorite that busted through the pillow that was right beside her head. Reflecting back on that night Ruth Hamilton is exceedingly thankful to still be alive. An expert commented on the likelihood of that happening again and the likelihood is about 1 in 4 trillion. Did you know, in the Bible, it shares about a likelihood that currently has a 100 percent chance for everyone and that is the reality of death. It reads in Hebrews 9:27, “And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment.”

Something to Boast About November 29

In an article put out this past year by Conscious Rethink entitled, How to Deal with Bragging Friends/Relatives, it is noted that it becomes unhealthy when we use our accomplishments to elevate at the expense of other people or their fortune. Did you know the Bible gives direction on bragging? In the book of Jeremiah there is clear direction on what is beneficial for a person to actually boast about. This direction comes ultimately from God Himself in which it reads, “Thus says the LORD “Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, Let not the mighty man glory in his might, Nor let the rich man glory in his riches; But let him who glories glory in this, That he understands and knows Me, That I am the LORD, exercising lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness in the earth. For in these I delight,” says the LORD.”

Ancient Relics November 26

Last month a pair of carved stone statues used as garden ornaments for years in a home in Eastern England sold for over $265,000 at an auction after it was revealed that they were in fact ancient Egyptian relics dating back thousands of years. Imagine the excitement of the homeowners when realizing that something that was accessible to them was of such value. The fact is for those who have not entered into a personal relationship with God through faith in the finished work of Jesus Christ, this same experience can be realized. Something that is of unimaginable worth is accessible. In the book of Ephesians it reads, “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.”

Use Your Wipers November 24

We have entered into the season when you do not know just what you will encounter when you are driving. It could be snow or it could be rain but fortunately vehicles are equipped with windshield wipers that allow a person to be able to see the road with greater clarity regardless of whatever you have to face. Do you know there is a means in which a person who has a relationship with God, made possible through faith in the finished work of Jesus Christ, can see the goodness of God with greater clarity? Something that is accessible, that can act like a windshield wiper and clear away that which is blurring one’s vision of God. It is thankfulness. Being thankful to God. In first Thessalonians 5:18 it reads, “in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

Don’t get Scammed November 22

A present phone scam involves a caller claiming to come from the fraud department informing you that there are suspicious charges on your credit card. You are then told to immediately call the number on the back of your credit card. The caller then hangs up but the scammer stays on the phone and when the caller picks up again the scammer plays a recording of a dial done, then answers the call after you dial and even pretends to transfer you to someone else. At that point the caller is asked to verify their credit card by providing the necessary information. Without even knowing it the caller has been scammed and it can be very costly. Did you know in the book of Philippians the Bible identifies a way we can be scammed out of experiencing joy and it is accomplished in a very shrewd way. It is through the means of complaining and you did not even know it happened.

Captain Kirk Goes to Space November 19

90 year old William Shatner, famously known as Captain Kirk from Star Trek, became the oldest person to go into space last month. He went on the invitation of Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon and one of the richest men in the world. The 90 year old tweeted, “It’s never too late to experience new things.” In the Bible, Jesus speaks of an experience that is made available that is of infinite worth but he limits this experience not to the rich and famous but the poor. Those who are poor in Spirit. Jesus says in Matthew 5:3 blessed are the poor in spirt, for there is the kingdom of heaven. Poor in Spirit are those who recognize their destitute, spiritual condition. It speaks of someone who recognizes their need of salvation made possible through Jesus Christ and they trust in Him to satisfy that need.

Finding a Diamond the Size of a Jellybean November 17

Last month Noreen Wredberg was not expecting to find anything at Arkansas Crater of Diamonds State park but she did. A yellow diamond weighing 4.38 carats. The diamond is about the size of a jellybean and according to the park rules she is allowed to keep it. She found a real treasure that is worth a lot of money. In the Bible, Jesus shares about a treasure that is found that is of great worth. He tells of a man who found a treasure in a field and then went and sold all that he had to buy the field so he could have the treasure. The treasure represents the kingdom of heaven that is of infinite worth beyond what we can fully comprehend but we can possess it. The way to receive it is through Jesus! He said in John 14:6 I am the way and the truth and the life, no one comes to the father but by me.
