Violinist Joshua Bell July 31, 2017

Joshua Bell is one of the most famous and celebrated violinists in the world today. In 2007, without publicity, he performed a famous concert for forty-three minutes, at a busy subway station in Washington D.C. 1,097 people passed by. None recognized him. Later, it was asked, “If we do not have a moment to stop and listen to one of the best musicians in the world playing the best music ever written, how many other things are we missing? So, we ask, how many fail to recognize Jesus, the Saviour of the world. John wrote of Jesus’ entrance to the world with the words, “He came unto His own, but His own received Him not. Yet to all who did receive him, …he gave the right to become children of God.” How sad to miss out on recognizing Jesus- the greatest Person Who ever lived.

Robert Louis Stevenson July 28, 2017

Robert Louis Stevenson, famous for Treasure Island, Kidnapped, and Dr. Jekyl and Mr. Hyde, in failing health sought a favorable climate. He chose Samoa, in the South Pacific. Finding that the native chiefs were constantly at war with one another, he gradually resolved their conflicts and taught them to be at peace. In gratitude, the Samoans built a highway in his name, which they called, “The Road of the Loving Heart.” A plaque explains that the highway was built to please Stevenson “because he had brought them joy and peace.”Jesus too brought peace to troubled hearts everywhere, but it is eternal peace. Paul the Apostle wrote that Jesus “made peace by the blood of His Cross.” Our Lord makes a promise to all of us who recognize our spiritual need and receive Him as Saviour, “my peace I give to you.”

Fearfully and Wonderfully Made! July 26, 2017

“The brain is the last and grandest biological frontier, the most complex thing we have yet discovered in our universe.” Those are the words of American scientist Dewey Watson, best known as one of the four discoverers of the structure of the DNA molecule. This amazing organ controls everything we do. It enables us to think, learn, create, breathe, and function. And as only God can make a tree, only God can make a brain. No wonder the Psalmist praised God saying, we are “… fearfully and wonderfully made.” Paul wrote, that “we are bought with a price.” That price was paid at Calvary when “Christ died for us.” So, God has a double claim on every one of us. He madeus, and He redeemed us. Have you considered these claims on your life? Please think seriously about this today.

Vitamins July 24, 2017

We are into the summer of 2017, so many, have stopped taking vitamin D for a while. Known as the “sunshine vitamin” it is recommended during winter months when we spend less time in the sun. Other dietary supplements taken, include vitamins C, B and many more. Despite the sometimes-exaggerated alleged value of these supplements, some are helpful. And while it is important to take care of our physical health, it is much more important to look inside, and examine our spiritual condition. We are all spiritually bankrupt and must one day give account to our Maker. Amos, the Old testament prophet urged, “prepare to meet your God.” We do that by having a personal relationship with Christ.

How to live Forever July 21, 2017

Doctors at the American Health Foundation believe that disease is spread by man’s illusion, because of man’s unflagging belief that serious heath problems happen only to someone else. One scientist, referring to the mistaken idea of living forever in these bodies here on earth wrote, “We all suffer from the illusion of immortality.”. You and I have a rendezvous with our Maker. That is an appointment we will all keep. But that need not frighten us, because Jesus promised, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me, even though he were dead, yet shall he live; and whoever lives and believes in me shall never die.” None of us has earthly immortality, but when we have Christ in our lives, we will live forever, with Him in heaven. In other words, the key to eternal life is a personal relationship with Jesus.

A Life Changing Moment July 19, 2017

“A life changing moment.” Those were the words of a prominent Maritime politician, describing his feelings when he had a serious heart attack. When such an event takes place, many are rudely reminded that one day, their life on earth will be over. The brilliant Daniel Webster, when asked what was the greatest thought that had ever crossed his mind, responded without hesitation, “My personal accountability to my Maker.” If youever wonder how we can be prepared for the next life, the answer is found only in the Bible, God’s inspired Word. There we learn that “there is none righteous, no not one. Jesus said, “Behold I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in.” When He comes in, we have the greatest possible “life changing moment.”

Broken Promises July 17, 2017

In an article titled “list of treaties”, the Wikipedia Internet Research Source cites all the treaties and agreements formalized between nations and groups from 1283 and 2009. The article compares this long list of agreements with a list of wars, arguments and broken treaties. It calls into question the usefulness of human agreements when most of them have been broken. But how wonderful to realize that while most leaders of mankind generally speaking cannot be trusted, God, our Creator, can. He always keeps His. And the most important area of trust is regarding our eternal destiny. Paul was inspired by God to write, “whoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” When we acknowledge our spiritual needs, and invite Christ into our lives, He keeps His Word.

Full Stop, Not Rolling Stop July 14, 2017

A driver came to a stop sign, looked both ways, then without stopping, made what the policeman who stopped him called a “rolling stop.” He paid a fine. That driver now comes to a complete stop at every stop sign, whether there are cars coming or not. Many drivers slow down, and then drive through the stop sign or red light. But as irritating as stop signs can be the law still says stop. We should not ignore the stop signs of life by trying to pretend they don’t exist. Unfortunately, many ignore these signs because they think they have a better idea, and can get away with doing their own thing. But God’s Word says, “Do not be deceived, God is not mocked. Whatever a man sows, that He will also reap.” In the end, it’s smarter to obey God’s Word than to live by “doing it my way.”

Knowing the Truth- not enough July 12, 2017

“Don’t just think about it, do it, do it, do it.” That was the line used in the television promotion encouraging healthy living. According to a survey, eighty four percent of Canadians believe that texting while driving should be a criminal offense. And yet, fatal collisions in Canada involving drivers distracted by texting have risen seventeen percent in recent years. Giving mental assent to something doesn’t necessarily cause a change of behaviour. In the book of Romans, we read, “If you will confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus, and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.” The reality is that many people give mental assent to the existence of God, but there is no change in their lives. They have failed to exercise saving faith, the importance of believing with their hearts that Jesus can and will make them His children. Knowing the truth is not enough. We must act on it.

The Wrong Gate July 10, 2017

Well known author Max Lucado went to an airport to catch a flight. He checked his luggage, got his ticket and went to the gate, past security, took a seat and waited to board the plane. He waited and waited. Finally, an attendant informed him, that he was at the wrong gate. This sounds like many of us, when we think about going to heaven. We check in at the gate of good works, church attendance and so on, but no call for our destination comes. We are at the wrong gate. Nobody is ever good enough to earn his or her way to heaven. Jesus reminds us, “Enter in by the narrow gate, for wide is the gate, and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it.” Jesus is the only gate. He said, “I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” Please think about that.
