Last month a number of news agencies reported the emergence of a 50-year-old Spanish extreme athlete from a 230 foot deep cave outside of Granada. This athlete took part in a 500 day challenge of living in the cave with minimal outside contact. When she emerged it took some time for her eyes to adjust to the sunshine in order to see clearly. Did you know the Bible allows our spiritual eyes to adjust to be able to see our standing before God apart from Jesus Christ. The first half of Romans 6:23 reads, “For the wages of sin is death”. That reveals to us our desperate situation speaking of future separation from God. Thankfully the rest of the verse reveals a way of escape, “but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
