Lifeguards are constantly on the lookout, and it is important your child is easily spotted. Did you know the Bible says God is constantly on the lookout for someone. Isaiah 66:2 reads, “But on this one will I look: On him who is poor and of a contrite spirit, And who trembles at My word.

Do you watch a lot of TV? CNN shared an article recently noting how replacing TV time with light physical activity, moderate to vigorous physical activity, and sleep is beneficial to healthy aging. Watching less TV and being more physically active is associated with a longer, healthier life. Do you know the Bible specifies how to experience a particular type of life and the type of life it addresses is certainly newsworthy. In the book of John chapter 3 verse 16 it reads, For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

Two very ambitious Alberta runners, Mike Hansen and Dave Morin recently completed a very unique goal of 10 marathons in 10 days in 10 provinces looking to raise money for children’s charities. The first marathon was in St. John’s Newfoundland and the last one was in Calgary. The goal was to raise one million dollars for children’s charities. Did you know the Bible pictures running to teach a valuable lesson. In the book of Philippians it reads, “Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.”

A study was conducted on women and it was noted in the article that, “Women who drank one to three cups of caffeinated coffee per day in their 50s were more likely to reach older age free from major chronic diseases and with good cognitive, physical, and mental health,” Did you know the bible speaks of not simply living longer but rather at the end of this life being with God for eternity, having everlasting life. There was an article put out by Fox News entitled Hamburger vs. Hotdog: Which is healthier for you? The consensus seems to be that when it comes to overall nutritional value hamburgers that are often topped with veggies wins out. Comparisons are interesting. Charles Spurgeon was an English Baptist preacher in the late 1800’s. He was known in his day as the prince of preachers. On one particular day there was a gentleman that asked him a question in relation to the importance of prayer and bible reading. Which was more important? Charles Spurgeon responded with a question back to this individual asking him which does he consider to be more important? – breathing in or breathing out.

Do you find ice-cream to be overpriced? According Guinness World Records the most expensive ice cream in the world costs $6,696 for a serving. It is made in Japan and is known as “white night”. Can you imagine paying such a price for ice cream? Some people have such a desire to enjoy the ice cream they are actually paying this high price. I would say people are desiring something in this case that would not be worth the expense. In the Bible, Jesus speaks of having a desire that can definitely be satisfied. He says in the book of Matthew, “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness for they shall be filled.” The Bible also tells us that the means to experience this righteousness is through Jesus.

CNN shared an article by Monica Parker entitled, Happiness is a trap. Here’s what to pursue instead, the writer outlines the limits of simply pursuing happiness and enforces the importance of pursuing wonder which she identifies to be of a much greater value. Did you know the Bible places a lot of emphasis on wonder in relation to God? In the book of Psalms, the writer is addressing the knowledge of God and writes, “O LORD, You have searched me and known me. You know my sitting down and my rising up; You understand my thought afar off.” The Psalmist in summarizing his thoughts on the knowledge of God writes, “Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; It is high, I cannot attain it.”
