Old Chinese Proverb May 8, 2017

A fascinating old Chinese proverb says, “If there is light in the soul, there will be beauty in the person. If there is beauty in the person, there will be harmony in the home. If there is harmony in the home, there will be order in the nation. If there is order in the nation, there will be peace in the world.” Jesus, the Son of God said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness but will have the light of life.” He also said, “My peace I give unto you.” These are wonderful promises from God’s Son, Who alone has power to fulfill them. But in order to receive these blessings, we have a responsibility. God will not force us. We must ask His forgiveness and accept His wonderful offer. But He has promised, “Call unto Me and I will answer you.” Please think seriously about this today.

C.S. Lewis on the Gospels May 5, 2017

C.S. Lewis, famous for the Screwtape Letters and the Chronicles of Narnia, was a brilliant scholar who taught at both Cambridge and Oxford Universities. After thoroughly researching the Bible, he became a Christian. He wrote, “All I am in private life is a literary critic and historian, that is my job, and I’m prepared to say on that basis if anyone thinks the Gospels are either legends or novels, then that person is simply showing his incompetence as a literary critic. I’ve read a great many novels and I know a fair amount about the legends that grew up among early people, and I know perfectly well the Gospels are not that kind of stuff. “With all due respects, perhaps those who consider the Bible and Christianity primarily suitable for the uneducated and naïve, should consider their own “incompetence.”

Brave Mother Saves Children May 3, 2017

Stephanie Decker made the life-altering decision to save her two small children, when a tornado ripped through their town of Henryville, Indiana. She took a blanket, wrapped her children in it and laid down on top of them. She lost both legs, but has no regrets. This amazing story beautifully illustrates an even greater love and sacrifice that has been made for us all. While the world is under condemnation because of our fallen nature, and in danger of spiritual death, Jesus stepped up to the plate. He came to earth as a baby, grew up and died on the cross of Calvary as our substitute. John explained in his gospel, John chapter three, verse sixteen. “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”

Price of Food Drops May 1, 2017

The price of food on P.E.I. has been falling steadily over the last year. Statistics Canada’s food price index shows a 5.7 per cent drop from February to February, And the national food price index has fallen 2.3 per cent. Many Islanders will have a hard time to believe these stats. But the cost of just about everything seems to be going up. If not now, very soon. However, there is one cost that never changes. It is the cost of eternal life. Although it is believed by many that we must earn our way to heaven, and pay the price in church going, baptism and doing good works, the Bible is emphatic and clear that though “the wages of sin is death”, “the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” Paul explained to us, “By grace are you saved through faith, and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God…” Please think about this great truth today.

Signs of the Times April 28, 2017

Last month North Korea launched four more ballistic missiles and is working to develop nuclear-tipped missiles that can reach the United States. American Secretary of State Rex Tillerson warned North Korea that any military action will be met with “an appropriate response.” Trouble in North Korea, Syria, the Ukraine and with Isis, remind us of the Bible warning that “in the last days there will be wars and rumors of wars.” Many historians believe we may be nearing the end of this age. For centuries skeptics scoffed at prophecies that Jews would one day return to Palestine and regain their homeland. In 1900, less than 40,000 Jews lived in the Holy Land. Then, on May 14th, 1948 Israel became a nation God keeps His Word and He will also keep His promise to return to earth, “I will come again.” Thinking people take Bible prophecy seriously

Denzel Washington’s Testimony April 26, 2017

Actor Denzel Washington has said, “I read the Bible every day. My pastor told me to start with the New Testament, so I did, worked my way through it, then through the Old Testament. Now I’m back in the New Testament.” Washington is an evangelical Christian who often speaks publicly of his faith. It seems that he understands what the Bible means when it says, “For the Word of God is living and powerful and sharper than any two-edged sword…a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” If he is sincerely applying its truths, he is finding that the Bible has the power to transform lives, just as Paul affirmed when he wrote, “if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation, old things have passed away, behold all things have become new.” Like Denzel Washington, we can all trust the Bible.

Winds of Change April 24, 2017

Nobody knows the future. Someone once wrote, “I pulled my blanket tighter around my shoulders and snuggled in the warmth of my family, my job, my education, my good health, my financial security. But the cold of the future pierced my cover and I shivered.” Sound like your situation? If so, please listen to what that same person wrote later. “Suddenly my blanket was ripped from my grasp and I stood exposed in all my fears. Then I looked up to Him…He said ‘Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you; not as the world gives…Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.’ “ “ I was warm.” Gene MacLellan’s song wisely advises “put you hand in the hand of the Man who stilled the water.” The Man he referred to was Jesus, the Son of God. He holds our future in His hands.

Only One Bridge April 21, 2017

A small card came to my mailbox. In it were the words, “There is only one bridge to PEI.” Then it added, “there is only One who has bridged the way to heaven.” Interested, I read on. The note continued, “For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus.” As I looked at the little card, I smiled, realizing that whoever sent it had the truth. There is only One Who bridged the way from earth to heaven-Jesus. His own words make that clear, “I am the way, the truth and the life, no one come to the Father except through me.” The Confederation bridge isn’t the only way to PEI. We can also go by sea or air. But there definitely are no other ways to heaven. We don’t get there by being baptized or going to church. The only way to heaven is to become properly related by faith, to a person- Jesus.

Robert’s Last Wish April 19, 2017

Writing to an advice columnist, Robert Test, who, knowing he was dying, expressed his wish that his death would give life to others. He detailed his desire for the donating of his eyes, heart, blood, kidney and several other body parts to others, to give them a chance at life. This man was indeed a selfless, generous thoughtful person. His life and death are pictures of the life and death of our Lord Jesus Christ. When we were born, we were born to live. But Jesus, unlike anyone else was born to die, so we could have life, eternal life. Paul stated, “the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Jesus Christ our Lord.” To make that gift happen, Christ died in our place on the cross. That’s what He meant when He said, “I have come that they (mankind) may have life and have it more abundantly. What a gift! Have you received it?

Unconditional Love for All April 17, 2017

“Mom and Dad, I’m coming home, but I would like to bring a friend with me. He stepped on a land mine and lost an arm and a leg.” Those were the words of a young soldier, returning from a tour of duty. The parents told him that it would be impossible for them to accommodate a handicapped person. It would be too great a burden. They heard nothing more until they were informed that their son was dead, an apparent suicide. When the grief -stricken parents went to identify their son, they were shocked to learn that he had only one arm and one leg. Thankfully, though we are all broken spiritually, “there is “none righteous”, God loves us unconditionally. Paul wrote, “God commends His love toward us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Nobody is too bad for the Lord to forgive.
