The overextension of credit and overspending is the leading cause of bankruptcy in Canada. Being in debt places a huge weight on a person. Did you know the bible tells us of a huge debt that we all owe. It reads in Romans 6:23 that, “the wages of sin is death.” Meaning the sins we have committed will result in us having to separated from God when we die. The rest of that verse also speaks of the one who paid the price for our debt on the cross, Jesus Christ. It reads, “but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. What an amazing gift to receive, through faith in Jesus Christ, our debt is paid, resulting in a changed life.

Fox news reported recently that a simple blood test is being researched that can detect Alzheimer’s disease with 100 percent accuracy years before symptoms appear. Did you know the Bible identifies something humanity has been infected with that has a 100 percent infection rate? In the Bible in the book of Romans it reads, “Therefore, just as through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men, because all sinned”. Thankfully, the Bible tells of a cure made possible through Jesus Christ. It reads in the book of Ephesians, For by grace you have been save through faith, it is a gift of God, not of works lest anyone should boast.

A study was published in JAMA Neurology that proposed that managing hearing loss may help prevent or delay cognitive decline and dementia. Within the study group the use of hearing aids was associated with a nineteen percent reduction in long term cognitive decline with those whom needed hearing aids and used them. Did you know the Bible shares how essential hearing is in the context of faith. It is not necessary that a person literally hears this truth but rather comes to know it and embrace it. Romans 10:17 reads, “So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” A great question to consider is how is your hearing?

I don’t imagine you are a fan of a cold shower but there was an article put out by the New York Post that said that you should be. Apparently it reduces muscle soreness and inflammation after a work out. It can also boost a person’s mood when feeling emotionally low by causing your body to pump out endorphins. A cold shower also enhances overall circulation and gets your heart pumping. Essentially it really wakes you up. Did you know there is a wake up call in the Bible to Christians whom are not living as they should? It reads, “And do this, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep; for now our salvation is nearer than when we first believed.”

Have you ever seen an advertisement promoting the possibility of having one’s criminal record removed? Imagine not being able to travel because of something that comes up from your past whenever you get to the border? The Bible tells us of a way we can have our sins before God removed. It tells us of a way we can have a clean record. This is made possible by a person being sorry for their sin and trusting in what Jesus did on the cross as a payment for their sin. Causing a person from then on to see sin differently and God differently and live differently. This clearance is spoken of in Psalm 103:12 which reads, “As far as the east is from the west, So far has He removed our transgressions from us.”

BBC news put out an article entitled, “Five hours of sleep is tipping point for bad health.” There was a study by PLoS medicine that tracked the sleep of civil servants in the United Kingdom. According to the study those over 50 years of age have a better chance of avoiding chronic health problems by ensuring they have more than five hours of rest each night. Did you know the Bible has something very essential to say about rest? It is shared by Jesus but He is not referring to physical rest but spiritual. He says, “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” Have you experienced the benefit of that type of rest?

According to a new study published in the journal Nutrients consuming certain food and drink can put a person at a higher risk of developing colon cancer. The study released eight items that are related to a higher risk of developing the disease with the top two being alcohol and white bread. It is wise to watch what you eat and drink! Did you know the Bible has something very essential to share regarding not what we eat and drink but what we think. A way of thinking that is available for a person whom has experienced salvation through Jesus Christ? It reads, “And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.”

Charles Spurgeon was an English Baptist preacher in the late 1800’s. He was known in his day as the prince of preachers. On one particular day there was a gentleman that asked him a question in relation to the importance of prayer and bible reading. Which was more important? Charles Spurgeon responded with a question back to this individual asking him which does he consider to be more important? – breathing in or breathing out. (Pause) A way in which God has made available to communicate with Him is through the Bible and prayer. Through the Bible He speaks to us and through prayer we speak to Him.

Looking back now at Christmas I don’t know what presents stood out to you, but I know one that stood out to a gentleman in New York. While most people were out Christmas shopping last month thirty four year old Mark Fenrich was celebrating the gift of life. A gift he had received not just once but last month was the forth time he received it. It was a kidney transplant. It is a life giving gift. Did you know the Bible shares about a life giving gift that is offered to all people. John 3:16 reads, For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

CTV news reported recently regarding a new study that suggests just seeing a person who is sick “triggers” a biological response in our bodies to start preparing for illness. A study by Patricia Lopes, an assistant professor of biology at Chapman university in California, revealed that bodies anticipate the possibility of infection when seeing another persons symptoms. Our bodies are designed to get ready for what might come. Did you know the Bible tells us to be ready for what will come? In the book of Hebrews it reads, And it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgement, so Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many.
