The University of Michigan published a study that suggested that eating one hot dog can take 36 minutes off your life. The study looked at more than 5,800 foods common in the U.S. diet and the amount of healthy life gained or lost after eating them. The fact is though, life is short and we would be wise not simply to watch what we eat but ensure while we are here to get to know the one whom the Bible describes as the giver of life, breath, and all things. The time we have to do this is relatively short and it is not something to put off. We are told in the book of James, “For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away.”

This past hurricane season eastern communities were on high alert after hurricane Fiona, the year before, brought devastating damage to a number of eastern Canada’s coastal communities with its torrential rain and wind gusts up to 160 kilometers per hour. Did you know the Bible informs us that there will be storms in our personal lives? The reality is these storms will occur but the Bible has instruction in regard to having proper focus during these storms. It is not to be on the storms but on God. In the book of Isaiah, chapter 26 verse 3 it reads, “You will keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you because he trusts in you.”

Last month a lady from Prince Edward Island whom was traveling and had her baggage lost for over a week took matters into her own hands. Lacy Koughan had an Airtag on her luggage but even with that, staff at the airport were not able to locate it so she flew back to New York herself and found the lost bag after she searched for a very short time. In the Bible in the book of Psalms it shares about a search but the means to access what is sought after is not through traveling but through prayer. It reads, “Search me, O God, and know my heart; Try me, and know my anxieties; And see if there is any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.

Last month Len Green from Toronto received a call from a CBC reporter located in Ghana letting him know his car which had been stolen from his driveway a year earlier had just been located. The reporter was doing a story on cars that have been stolen and then exported to West Africa. The stolen car was part of an organized crime effort in which thieves steal the cars and sell them to an exporter. Did you know in the Bible Jesus tells people to be on the outlook for a particular thief? John 10:10 reads, “The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.

Frozen pizzas and ready-to-eat meals may make our busy lives easier but you have to use some caution. It is wise to watch what you eat! An article was published in The Lancet that shared that 44.4 percent of all cancer deaths and 42 percent of healthy years lost could be attributed to preventable risk factors. The three leading risks according to this global study includes smoking, drinking too much alcohol or having a high body mass index. Did you know the Bible shares about the greatest risk factor for death, meaning separation from God, and it falls under one category? It is sin. Romans 6:23 reads, “For the wages of sin is death,”. Recently a piece by the famous 20th century artist Bob Ross sold for more than 9.8 million U.S. dollars at an auction house in Minneapolis. I question if Bob Ross would of ever imagined one of his paintings could of been worth so much. There is an account in the Bible, in the book of Psalms, where king David is questioning the value of a creation of God and in doing so is in awe of God. CTV news reported last month how a kilogram of fentanyl was found by police in a New York City daycare. Fentanyl is an opioid drug that is 50 times stronger than heroin. It is deadly! Did you know the Bible tells us that we have all been injected with something that is deadly that has to be addressed? In the book of Romans it reads, “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God”, and later on it reads, “for the wages of sin is death.” Death meaning eventual separation from God. Thankfully this same verse that tells us what the wages of sin causes also tells us that, “but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Last month an American man was rescued from a Turkish cave after falling ill and not able to get out himself. He was trapped over 3000 feet within the cave for over a week. The challenge was that there were places within the cave that were too tight to get a stretcher through. Thankfully rescuers were able to take it slow and navigate through the cave and the result was a successful rescue. Did you know there is a rescue shared about in the Bible that is absolutely amazing and is successful for all who take part? John 3:16 reads, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”
