Last month Coco Gauff defeated Aryna Sabalenka in a three-set intense match in the U.S. Open. Her reaction to having experienced this amazing victory was to drop to her knees and thank God. When the 19 year-old tennis phenom was asked about her expression of thanks she said, “I don’t pray for results. I just ask that I get the strength to give it my all. Whatever happens, happens. I’m so blessed in this life. I’m just thankful for this moment.” Coco Gauff has a practical understanding of what is written in the Bible in the book of Thessalonians of followers of Jesus Christ which reads, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

Recently a lost hiker was able to be found in Alaska’s Katmai’s National Park by the hiker locating a live feed set up to study bears. He went to the live feed and said, “help, I don’t know which way to go.” Thankfully someone was listening. A rescue mission was sent out and the lost hiker was located approximately two hours after sharing on the live feed. In the Bible, in the book of Psalms there is a cry out for help and this cry is given to God which reads, “Hear my cry, O God; attend to my prayer. From the end of the earth I will cry to You, when my heart is overwhelmed; lead me to the rock that is higher than I.

CTV news shared recently regarding a recreated photo of a soon to be retired pilot Ruben Flowers and his son. What made this photo newsworthy was the fact that it was a recreation of Ruben and his son in the cockpit 30 years later. One photo from 30 years ago and a recent photo in the cockpit of father and son except now the son whom shares the same name is also a pilot himself. It was a depiction of a son whom imitated his father. Did you know that in the Bible there is encouragement for followers of Jesus Christ to seek to imitate God. In Ephesians chapter 5 verse one it reads, “Therefore be imitators of God as dear children.”

With the 2024 model cars and trucks soon to be available there will be all kinds of bells and whistles accessible to the new owners. I wonder how many people will purchase certain perks and drive their cars or trucks and not even take advantage of what has been made available to them. Something else I would be interested to know has to do with a statement made by Jesus Christ in John 10:10 which reads: “I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.” How many people have entered into a personal relationship with God through Christ and have not taken full advantage of all that Jesus has made available by properly investing into growing in that relationship?

Last month Greece started limiting the number of daily visitors to one of Greece’s most famous landmarks. The number of people able to visit the Acropolis archaeological site is currently capped at 20,000 a day. This limit is expected to leave thousands daily not able to go. Did you know in the Bible there is an invitation to come and there is no limit on the number. In the book of Matthew Jesus says, Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

In Canada Thanksgiving is the second Monday in October. In the United States it is the fourth Thursday in November. Regardless of whether you live in Canada or in the US it is focused around food and being thankful. Did you know that in the Bible, that for those who have trusted in Jesus Christ for salvation, the season of Thanksgiving gets extended beyond October or November. In the book of Thessalonians it reads, “in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” That which an individual is to be thankful for is the good and also knowing that in the bad situations in life God desires to do a work in ones life through what has happened.

According to a new study shared by CNN health as little as two to three minutes of vigorous exercise a day could actually lower your cancer risk. According to the lead author of the study such activity could include power walking, climbing stairs, doing strenuous housework or playing with the kids. Such activities are not meant to replace a good exercise program but there are benefits to doing them for those whom do not like to work out. Did you know the Bible also notes there are benefits with exercise but shares something that is of much greater value. It reads, “ For bodily exercise profits a little, but godliness is profitable for all things, having promise of the life that now is and of that which is to come.”

The findings of a recent study were shared in the Harvard Gazette regarding the risk of liver cancer and chronic liver disease mortality among women who consume sugar sweetened beverages on a daily basis. Apparently, this is the first study to report an association between sugar sweetened intake and chronic liver disease mortality. A person has to be careful of that which seems sweet but can eventually be deadly. Did you know in the Bible it describes sin as something that can seem good and beneficial for a short time but eventually brings destruction. In the book of Hebrews it speaks of the reality that sin can bring pleasure for a season but as noted in the book of Romans, its side effects are deadly.

CTV reported that researchers have discovered that catching up on sleep over the weekend does not return your heart rate and blood pressure to normal. According to the study when sleep is restricted to five hours per night during the week it worsens your cardiovascular health, including heart rate and blood pressure. Apparently consistent rest is very important. Did you know in the Bible, Jesus shares about the importance of rest although he is not talking about sleep. He says, Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

Last month many people were glued to their screens in Pakistan awaiting the rescue of six children and two adults dangling hundreds of meters above the ground in a remote part of Pakistan. A cable car line broke trapping the occupants for 14 hours dangling in mid air before rescuers saved them. One can only imagine the anticipation of being rescued. Did you know the Bible informs us there is a rescue available to all of humanity and it is successful for all whom receive it. John 3:16 reads, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
