Do you want to help your odds of living longer? CTV news shared a study that can help you know how to do so. The study published by the American Heart Association suggests that adults that regularly engage in moderate or vigorous exercise for 150 to 600 minutes a week have a significantly reduced rick of mortality. This study does not provide any guarantees but it does help give insight. Did you know the Bible shares of a guarantee in which a person can experience eternal life? In the Bible in the book of 1st John it speaks of such a guarantee, “These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life.”

Last month a basketball card autographed by Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant sold for nearly 13 million. Who would of thought a small piece of cardboard with a picture and a couple of autographs on it could be worth so much? In the Bible, Jesus addresses the value of the kingdom of heaven. He shares a story of a man who found a treasure in a field and then went and sold all that he had to buy the field so he could have the treasure. The kingdom of heaven is of infinite worth beyond what we can fully comprehend but we can possess it. Jesus also shared the way to the king and kingdom. He said in John 14:6 I am the way and the truth and the life, no one comes to the father but by me.

Do you exercise? Here is one more reason to do so. Dr. Heather Sandison is a renowned expert in Alzheimer’s who put out a book entitled, “Reversing Alzheimer’s: The New Tool Kit to Improve Cognition and Protect Brain Health.” Guess what is one of the key elements in reversing Alzheimer’s and preventing and controlling dementia. You guessed it! It is exercise. Did you know the Bible notes there are benefits with exercise but shares something that is of much greater value. It reads, “ For bodily exercise profits a little, but godliness is profitable for all things, having promise of the life that now is and of that which is to come.”

A man from Nova Scotia got more than he bargained for when he was bass fishing in Manis Basin. What he ended up getting on his line was a juvenile great white shark. CTV news shared that based on the video taken scientists estimate the shark to be between six to eight feet in length and weighing between 200 to 250 pounds. In our lives sin is like that, it gives us more than we bargained for. The bible tells us the severity of what it does to us in Romans 6:23 which reads, “For the wages of sin is death” thankfully that same verse also tells us how we can have it dealt with which reads, “but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Recently a study was released in the journal JAMA pediatrics that made a connection between the frequency of tablet use and frequency and level and of anger outbursts among toddlers. The authors of the study wrote that early childhood tablet use “may contribute to a cycle” of problems in emotional regulation. Did you know the Bible provides direction on anger that was not shared recently but rather almost 2000 years ago? It reads, “Be angry, and do not sin”: do not let the sun go down on your wrath, nor give place to the devil.” Do you have anger in your life that is not being addressed. The instruction is to look to get it addressed quickly. The means to do so is through God Himself.

Do you know what your credit score is? CTV news put out an article entitled, “what is considered a good credit score?” In Canada, credit scores range between 300 and 900. It is assessed overtime depending on your purchases and ability to pay your debt. According to this article a good credit score is between 660 and 724. Did you know some people think God assesses them overtime to see if they are good enough to go to heaven. This is not the case as Ephesians 2:8-9 reads, 8 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, 9 not of works, lest anyone should boast.

The Mayo clinic put out an article sharing tips in keeping your bones healthy. In the article it noted how bones play many roles in the body. They provide structure, protect organs, anchor muscles, and store calcium. The tips it provided to help maintain bone health include getting plenty of calcium in your diet, pay attention to vitamin D, and include physical activity in your daily routine. Did you know in the Bible the apostle Peter shared an essential tip for followers of Jesus Christ to help build and maintain a healthy spiritual life. 1 Peter 2:2 reads, as newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby.

There has been lots of news reports regarding large fires throughout Canada and the U.S. this past summer causing a great deal of destruction. Do you know all that is required to start the destruction a fire brings? Essentially a little spark that catches and burns and spreads. A spark is so small and seemingly insignificant but it can be so powerful. Did you know the Bible compares a person’s tongue with a small fire that can be extremely destructive? In the book of James it reads, Even so the tongue is a little member and boasts great things. See how great a forest a little fire kindles! It would be wise to be cautious of the potential damage you could create today with the wrong use of your tongue.

CNN shared a study listing eight habits that could potentially add 24 years to your life. These habits are to be practiced over a 20 year period. Number 1 regular exercise; Number 2 Not becoming addicted to opioids; Number 3 Not using tobacco; Number 4 managing stress; Number 5 Eating a plant based diet; Number 6 Avoiding binge drinking; Number 7 Getting a good nights sleep; Number 8 being surrounded by positive relationships. Did you know the Bible has direction on not simply living longer but rather forever with God. John 3:16 reads, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”

This coming Monday is the last day of Summer. Something we all know about summer is it passes by quickly. It is here and then the next thing you know it is gone. It is interesting because the Bible describes our very lives as being here and then they are gone. In the book of 1 Peter our lives are referred to as, “our stay here.” It does not last long. In the book of James our lives are pictured as being like a vapor that appears for a little while and then vanishes away. Thankfully, the Bible tells us this life is not the end. In 1 John we are told a way in which life, real life can continue on, it is written, “And this is the testimony: that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son.”
