Metamorphosis November 19, 2018

A little girl put a caterpillar in a box, shutting the lid tight. The caterpillar spun a tight cocoon inside the box. Later, her mother opened the box to see what treasure her little girl had hidden, and out flew a beautiful butterfly. Metamorphosis is wonderful, but it cannot compare with the miracle that takes place when Christ transforms a life. The Bible described it as follows— “If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. Old things have passed away… all things have become new.” How does this happen?” First, we acknowledge our spiritual need because “There is none righteous, not one.” Then we ask Christ to come into our lives and become our Saviour. He invites us with the words, “Behold I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in.” I’m Alex Rockwell.

Accountability to God November 16, 2018

“What is the most sobering thought which ever crossed your mind?” Daniel Webster, brilliant lawyer, statesman, and U.S. Senator, replied, “My personal accountability to God.” All of us face this same accountability. It was why Amos, an Old Testament prophet, warned the people of his day, “Prepare to meet your God.” But none can hope to be prepared for that inevitable meeting. We need help, and Paul the Apostle wrote about that help, “…just as through one man (Adam) sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men, because all have sinned.” Later he explained, “…as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so also by one Man’s obedience (Jesus) many will be made righteous.”

Storms in our Lives November 14, 2018

Last month, hurricane “Michael” caused havoc along the Southeastern USA. Lives were lost. People who had not been able to leave were given this instruction—“Shelter in place till the storm passes.” When the storms of life overtake us, how wonderful to turn to God and be assured of His guidance and protection. This place of safety is found in the Saviour, Jesus Christ, open to us all when we humbly acknowledge our spiritual bankruptcy, since “All have sinned.” We are then ready to respond to Jesus’ invitation, “Behold I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door I will come in.” That door is the door to our lives. Then when the storms come, God promises, “I will never leave your or forsake you.”

Heart Trouble November 12, 2018

According to cardiologist Dr. Michael Chan, currently 600,000 Canadians are unaware that they are walking around with heart failure. Unfortunately, lack of awareness will not lessen their danger. God’s Word, the Bible, says that God searches our hearts and He finds them “deceitful and desperately wicked.” (God’s words, not mine) Thankfully though, there is a cure for our “spiritual heart illness.” It comes only when we enter into a personal relationship with Jesus. Paul the Apostle wrote, “The wages of sin is death (spiritual death) but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ…” Is your heart right with God? Please check it out and then go to Jesus, the great physician and surgeon. He will make you whole again.

Dangerous Gas November 9, 2018

A Prince Edward Island woman believes her husband’s terminal cancer was caused by Radon in their home. Health Canada estimates about 16% of lung cancer deaths in Canada are related to exposure to this gas, which is odourless, colourless and tasteless, and found only by testing with kits which are readily available. Radon poses a real danger and calls for appropriate action. And it is even more serious when it comes to our preparation for the next life. We can be ready by acknowledging our fallen spiritual condition, since “All have sinned.” And then we invite Christ to come into our lives and forgive us. Am I prepared for the next life? Are you? It’s coming for us all. He invites, “Come to me…and I will give you rest.”

Trivial Pursuit November 7, 2018

The game Trivial Pursuit was invented in 1979 by Chris Haney and Scott Abbot. They offered share blocks to their friends for $1,000. Many refused to invest. It proved to be a serious mistake. The four original partners became millionaires and the initial 34 people who invested as little as $1,000 for five shares, have also realized fortunes, as Trivial Pursuit became the world’s number one board game. There is an important lesson here. We all have a choice in life, whether to invest in time or eternity, whether to listen to God or man. Jesus once asked, “What shall it profit a man if he gains the whole world but loses his own soul?” You and I are going to live somewhere forever. We’d better choose in this lifetime where it will be.

Shipwrecked Lives November 5, 2018

A few years ago, in Cumberland Island Georgia, a partially buried skeleton of a ship was found. Since it did not look like the ordinary flotsam washed ashore it was reported to the National Park Service. Consequently, archaeologists uncovered an eighty-foot fragment of a wooden sailing ship dating from the 1850s. The shifting sands of time also uncover many human wrecks. Lives that once were whole, for various reasons have made shipwreck. But thankfully, about 2,000 years ago Jesus, God’s Son, stepped into time to intervene. In Matthew’s gospel, we read Jesus’ words, “Come to me, all who labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. “If you have made shipwreck of your life, don’t give up. Jesus Christ will make you whole again.

Billions of galaxies November 2, 2018

Human knowledge is now doubling every 13 months. According to IBM, the “internet of things” will lead to the doubling of knowledge every 12 hours. NASA scientists, using the powerful Kepler space telescope, have found well over one thousand new planets and believe our galaxy is filled with literally billions of planets. Daniel the prophet prophesied that, “knowledge shall increase.” and has it ever. What if a personal God, as described in the Bible does exist? Is it possible that outside our knowledge there is a personal God to whom we will one day be accountable? Remember please, the Psalmist’s words, “The heavens declare the glory of God and the sky above proclaims His handiwork? Have you ever read the Bible?

Extraterrestrial Intelligence November 1, 2018

Is there somebody out there as intelligent, or more so than we are? Yes, there is, but we can’t discover who, with a telescope or in a test tube. Some who think there is have raised enough funds to keep the Extraterrestrial Intelligence Institute program running in search of intelligent life beyond this planet. The writer of Hebrews in the New Testament, wrote,” …he who comes to God must believe that He is, and He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.” Timothy was inspired to write, “There is one God and one mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus.” He came to this earth to reveal the Heavenly Father. He said, “I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”

We Cannot Hide from God October 31, 2018

A few years ago, New York designers Adam Harvey and Johanna Bloomfield created a clothing line called Stealth Wear. The garments are made of a synthetic fabric that reflects heat to prevent the body’s thermal signature from reaching the eye of an infrared camera. Wearers become virtually invisible. Some try to hide their wrong-doing. But you cannot hide anything from God. The Bible states, “Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered … before the eyes of Him to whom we must give account. However, the Bible also says, “…if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ… He is the atonement for our sins, and also for the sins of the whole world. “Now that is good news for everyone
