November 11 Sleep walker found

Last month a ten year old girl from Louisiana wandered off into the woods. Her parents woke up and she was no where to be found. Police were called and a search party was organized consisting of hundreds of people. Frantically they searched through the forest and finally after a day of searching the girl was found by a heat seeking drone. Although initially there was no movement on the drone footage, all of a sudden, it showed her move. She was alive and well. Did you know the Bible mentions that God is on a search? 2 Chronicles 16:9 reads, For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose heart is loyal to Him.

November 8 Small Talk

Do you recognize small talk with a stranger to be advantageous? CTV news reported about a U.K. study that suggests short interactions with strangers can be very beneficial. According to the study personality traits in a stranger can be revealed within four minutes. Did you know there is a passage in the Bible that speaks of the knowledge of God regarding individuals? It is in the book of Psalms it reads, “O LORD, You have searched me and known me. You know my sitting down and my rising up; You understand my thoughts afar off. You comprehend my path and my lying down, and are acquainted with all my ways. The reality is no one knows you better than God. The question is do you know Him?

November 6 5 habits to be happier

Are you not happy? This may help. CNN put out an article recently that is entitled, Do you want to be happier? Here are 5 habits to adopt. Number One – become absorbed in what you do. Number 2 – practice random acts of kindness. Number three – nurture your relationships (according to the article personal relationships have a bigger impact than money, a job title, and even your health). Number 4 – express gratitude. Number 5 – Celebrate good news. Did you know Jesus shared about accessing something much deeper than happiness. He said in John 10:10, “I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.”

November 4 Hurricane Helene

Southeastern states are still very much involved in the clean up from hurricane Helene. People were placed on alert for this storm but the devastation was much worse than expected. This storm brought about the loss of a number of lives and the destruction of a great deal of property. Did you know the Bible informs us that there will be storms in our personal lives? The reality is these storms will occur but the Bible has instruction in regard to having proper focus during these storms. It is not to be on the storms but on God. In the book of Isaiah, chapter 26 verse 3 it reads, “You will keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you because he trusts in you.”

November 01 Putrid Flower

Vancouver’s Bloedel Conservatory contains a flower called the corpse flower. This beautiful plant has been described as smelling like “rotten flesh, with notes of old fish and decayed cabbage” when it blooms. It is hard to believe something so beautiful could produce something so putrid. In Jesus day He makes a comparison of something that appears to be beautiful but has a disgusting element to it. What Jesus describes is self-righteousness. In describing the self-righteous religious rulers of His day, He describes them as, “whitewashed tombs which indeed appear beautiful outwardly, but inside are full of dead men’s bones and all uncleanness.” Not a picture you would want to emulate!

October 30 False Alarm

An evacuation notice from the Emergency Alert System interrupted regular TV programming in the Los Angeles area telling the entirety of the L.A. County to evacuate due to a fire. This obviously created a great deal of panic but it was sent in error over a dozen times before the mistake was identified. Did you know there is a warning presented in the Bible that has been read literally millions of times but in this case, there is no mistake? In the book of Romans it reads, “for the wages of sin is death”. Death meaning future separation from God. That is the warning but thankfully that same verse presents a sure way of escape, “but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

October 28 Napuccino

Have you ever experienced a napuccino? The napuccino consists of drinking a caffeinated drink just before having a nap. The caffeine does not kick in for 15 minutes so the key is to get to sleep quickly. Apparently, according to sleep expert Dr. Cheri Mah, combining sleep and caffeine together makes a person feel more alert after. Did you know the Bible has something to say about rest but it is not in reference to sleep. In the book of Matthew, Jesus says, Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

October 25 Capping on Visitors

In an attempt to navigate overtourism Greece has been limiting the number of daily visitors to one of its most famous landmarks. The number of people able to visit the Acropolis archaeological site is currently capped at 20,000 a day. This limit leaves thousands daily not able to go. Did you know in the Bible there is an invitation to come and there is no limit on the number. In the book of Matthew Jesus says, Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

October 23 Preventable Death

A study published in The Lancet shared that 44.4 percent of all cancer deaths and 42 percent of healthy years lost could be attributed to preventable risk factors. The three leading risks according to this global study includes smoking, drinking too much alcohol or having a high body mass index. Did you know the Bible shares about the greatest risk factor for death, meaning separation from God, and it falls under one category? It is sin. Romans 6:23 reads, “For the wages of sin is death,”. Thankfully the rest of that same verse shares about the way this can be avoided, “but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

October 21 Sweet is not necessarily good

The Harvard Gazette addressed a study regarding the risk of liver cancer and chronic liver disease mortality among women who consume sugar sweetened beverages on a daily basis. Apparently, this is the first study to report an association between sugar sweetened intake and chronic liver disease mortality. A person has to be careful of that which seems sweet but can eventually be deadly. Did you know in the Bible it describes sin as something that can seem good and beneficial for a short time but eventually brings destruction. In the book of Hebrews it speaks of the reality that sin can bring pleasure for a season but as noted in the book of Romans, its side effects are deadly.
