Recently a book was returned to a library in Massachusetts that made the headlines. What was so unique about this book was that it was checked out in 1934. It was well overdue! Did you know the Bible tells us that while we are alive we are not yet overdue but our opportunity to get right with God will pass? In 2 Corinthians 6:2 it reads, “Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.” We are also told the means of experiencing this salvation in John 3:16, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

We are closing in on the end of January and I must ask, how have you been doing with your New Year’s Resolution? Did you spend a lot of time planning on what you were going to do? Are you struggling with following up or is it already a memory? Leadership expert John Maxwell has been quoted as saying, “much time is spent setting goals, but not enough time is spent on follow-through.” Here is something to consider. Why not get back to focusing on the follow through. Why not focus on making today count. In the Bible, in the book of Psalms it speaks of focusing on the day. It reads, “This is the day the LORD has made; We will rejoice and be glad in it.”

A gentleman from Ontario finally resolved an issue he faced by mistakenly transferring 19,000 into a strangers account rather than his own. He was transferring money into his account for a down payment on a house. In doing the transfer he entered the correct account number but the wrong transit number. Thankfully the bank finally returned the funds. Did you know the Bible teaches of an account transfer that is available through faith in Christ that we will want to get right? Second Corinthians 5:21 reads, “For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.” Through faith in Jesus a person receives, before God, the righteousness of Jesus upon their lives.

A very unique birth happened in Cincinnati, Ohio. The father caught his newborn baby girl with one hand while his wife gave birth as they were driving to the hospital. Did you know the Bible teaches of a unique birth that we all have to have in order to experience heaven? Jesus said in John 3:3 that, “most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” We are also told of a gift we receive in relation to this new birth. This new birth which is made possible by trusting in Jesus Christ as ones Savior. In Romans 6:23 it reads, “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

CBS news reported last month that there were three thieves robbing a cheque-cashing business in Colorado and while the robbery was taking place another thief stole their get-away car. According to police, apparently the car that was stolen was actually previously stolen by those who were robbing the cheque-cashing business. It was a news story that involved a lot of thieves. Did you know in the Bible Jesus tells people to be on the outlook for a particular thief? John 10:10 reads, “The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.

The overextension of credit and overspending is the leading cause of bankruptcy in Canada. Being in debt places a huge weight on a person. Did you know the bible tells us of a huge debt that we all owe. It reads in Romans 6:23 that, “the wages of sin is death.” Meaning the sins we have committed will result in us having to separated from God when we die. The rest of that verse also speaks of the one who paid the price for our debt on the cross, Jesus Christ. It reads, “but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. What an amazing gift to receive, through faith in Jesus Christ, our debt is paid, resulting in a changed life.

Fox news reported recently that a simple blood test is being researched that can detect Alzheimer’s disease with 100 percent accuracy years before symptoms appear. Did you know the Bible identifies something humanity has been infected with that has a 100 percent infection rate? In the Bible in the book of Romans it reads, “Therefore, just as through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men, because all sinned”. Thankfully, the Bible tells of a cure made possible through Jesus Christ. It reads in the book of Ephesians, For by grace you have been save through faith, it is a gift of God, not of works lest anyone should boast.

A study was published in JAMA Neurology that proposed that managing hearing loss may help prevent or delay cognitive decline and dementia. Within the study group the use of hearing aids was associated with a nineteen percent reduction in long term cognitive decline with those whom needed hearing aids and used them. Did you know the Bible shares how essential hearing is in the context of faith. It is not necessary that a person literally hears this truth but rather comes to know it and embrace it. Romans 10:17 reads, “So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” A great question to consider is how is your hearing?

I don’t imagine you are a fan of a cold shower but there was an article put out by the New York Post that said that you should be. Apparently it reduces muscle soreness and inflammation after a work out. It can also boost a person’s mood when feeling emotionally low by causing your body to pump out endorphins. A cold shower also enhances overall circulation and gets your heart pumping. Essentially it really wakes you up. Did you know there is a wake up call in the Bible to Christians whom are not living as they should? It reads, “And do this, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep; for now our salvation is nearer than when we first believed.”
