We are into a season when you do not know just what you will encounter when you are driving. It could be snow, or it could be rain but fortunately vehicles are equipped with windshield wipers that allow a person to be able to see the road with greater clarity. Did you know there is a means in which a person whom has a relationship with God, made possible through faith in the finished work of Jesus Christ, can see the goodness of God with greater clarity? Something that acts like a windshield wiper and clears away that which is blurring one’s vision of God. It is being thankful to God. In first Thessalonians 5:18 it reads, “in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

According to a study published in the Journal of Clinical Nutrition you can help your chances of not gaining weight by adding an additional cup of unsweetened coffee to your diet. Apparently though the benefit is canceled out if a person added even one teaspoon of sugar. That one teaspoon is all it takes to remove the benefit. Did you know in the Bible it describes sin as something that can seem good and sweet for a short time but eventually brings about something that is not simply apparent but evident. In the book of Hebrews it speaks of the reality that sin can bring pleasure for a season but as noted in the book of Romans, its side effects are deadly.

In an article put out by Conscious Rethink entitled, How to Deal with Bragging Friends/Relatives, it is noted that it becomes unhealthy when we use our accomplishments to elevate ourselves at the expense of others. Did you know the Bible gives direction on bragging? In the book of Jeremiah there is clear direction on what is beneficial for a person to actually boast about. It reads, “Thus says the LORD “Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, Let not the mighty man glory in his might, Nor let the rich man glory in his riches; But let him who glories glory in this, That he understands and knows Me, That I am the LORD, exercising lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness in the earth. For in these I delight,” says the LORD.”

Last month, Dorothy Hoffner, at the age of 104 became the oldest person to parachute from a plane. Skydiving was on her bucket list and she actually did it. Do you know something of a spiritual nature that a number of people have on their bucket list? It is trusting in Jesus Christ as ones Savior and living one’s life dedicated to Him. It is something many people intend to do some day. The Bible provides direction on the correct time time to do so and it is not at some point in the future. 2 Corinthians 6:2 reads, Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.

Are you a night owl? Do you prefer to go to bed later than most? A study published in the journal of experimental physiology has found that being a consistent night owl places an individual at a higher risk of type 2 diabetes and heart disease. Night owls had lower aerobic fitness levels and burned less fat at rest then early birds in the study. It appears having rest at the proper time is beneficial physically. Did you know the Bible has something very essential to say about rest? It is shared by Jesus but He is not referring to physical rest but spiritual. He says, “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” Have you experienced that type of rest?

Do you recognize small talk with a stranger to be advantageous? CTV news reported recently about a U.K. study that suggests short interactions with strangers can be very beneficial. According to the study personality traits in a stranger can be revealed within four minutes. Did you know there is a passage in the Bible that speaks of the knowledge of God regarding individuals? It is in the book of Psalms it reads, “O LORD, You have searched me and known me. You know my sitting down and my rising up; You understand my thoughts afar off. You comprehend my path and my lying down, and are acquainted with all my ways. The reality is no one knows you better than God.

The University of Michigan published a study that suggested that eating one hot dog can take 36 minutes off your life. The study looked at more than 5,800 foods common in the U.S. diet and the amount of healthy life gained or lost after eating them. The fact is though, life is short and we would be wise not simply to watch what we eat but ensure while we are here to get to know the one whom the Bible describes as the giver of life, breath, and all things. The time we have to do this is relatively short and it is not something to put off. We are told in the book of James, “For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away.”

This past hurricane season eastern communities were on high alert after hurricane Fiona, the year before, brought devastating damage to a number of eastern Canada’s coastal communities with its torrential rain and wind gusts up to 160 kilometers per hour. Did you know the Bible informs us that there will be storms in our personal lives? The reality is these storms will occur but the Bible has instruction in regard to having proper focus during these storms. It is not to be on the storms but on God. In the book of Isaiah, chapter 26 verse 3 it reads, “You will keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you because he trusts in you.”

Last month a lady from Prince Edward Island whom was traveling and had her baggage lost for over a week took matters into her own hands. Lacy Koughan had an Airtag on her luggage but even with that, staff at the airport were not able to locate it so she flew back to New York herself and found the lost bag after she searched for a very short time. In the Bible in the book of Psalms it shares about a search but the means to access what is sought after is not through traveling but through prayer. It reads, “Search me, O God, and know my heart; Try me, and know my anxieties; And see if there is any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.

Last month Len Green from Toronto received a call from a CBC reporter located in Ghana letting him know his car which had been stolen from his driveway a year earlier had just been located. The reporter was doing a story on cars that have been stolen and then exported to West Africa. The stolen car was part of an organized crime effort in which thieves steal the cars and sell them to an exporter. Did you know in the Bible Jesus tells people to be on the outlook for a particular thief? John 10:10 reads, “The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.
