Last month Greece started limiting the number of daily visitors to one of Greece’s most famous landmarks. The number of people able to visit the Acropolis archaeological site is currently capped at 20,000 a day. This limit is expected to leave thousands daily not able to go. Did you know in the Bible there is an invitation to come and there is no limit on the number. In the book of Matthew Jesus says, Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

In Canada Thanksgiving is the second Monday in October. In the United States it is the fourth Thursday in November. Regardless of whether you live in Canada or in the US it is focused around food and being thankful. Did you know that in the Bible, that for those who have trusted in Jesus Christ for salvation, the season of Thanksgiving gets extended beyond October or November. In the book of Thessalonians it reads, “in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” That which an individual is to be thankful for is the good and also knowing that in the bad situations in life God desires to do a work in ones life through what has happened.

According to a new study shared by CNN health as little as two to three minutes of vigorous exercise a day could actually lower your cancer risk. According to the lead author of the study such activity could include power walking, climbing stairs, doing strenuous housework or playing with the kids. Such activities are not meant to replace a good exercise program but there are benefits to doing them for those whom do not like to work out. Did you know the Bible also notes there are benefits with exercise but shares something that is of much greater value. It reads, “ For bodily exercise profits a little, but godliness is profitable for all things, having promise of the life that now is and of that which is to come.”

The findings of a recent study were shared in the Harvard Gazette regarding the risk of liver cancer and chronic liver disease mortality among women who consume sugar sweetened beverages on a daily basis. Apparently, this is the first study to report an association between sugar sweetened intake and chronic liver disease mortality. A person has to be careful of that which seems sweet but can eventually be deadly. Did you know in the Bible it describes sin as something that can seem good and beneficial for a short time but eventually brings destruction. In the book of Hebrews it speaks of the reality that sin can bring pleasure for a season but as noted in the book of Romans, its side effects are deadly.

CTV reported that researchers have discovered that catching up on sleep over the weekend does not return your heart rate and blood pressure to normal. According to the study when sleep is restricted to five hours per night during the week it worsens your cardiovascular health, including heart rate and blood pressure. Apparently consistent rest is very important. Did you know in the Bible, Jesus shares about the importance of rest although he is not talking about sleep. He says, Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

Last month many people were glued to their screens in Pakistan awaiting the rescue of six children and two adults dangling hundreds of meters above the ground in a remote part of Pakistan. A cable car line broke trapping the occupants for 14 hours dangling in mid air before rescuers saved them. One can only imagine the anticipation of being rescued. Did you know the Bible informs us there is a rescue available to all of humanity and it is successful for all whom receive it. John 3:16 reads, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

With it being September, we are in the peak time for hurricane season. Something that helps limit the effects of a hurricane is for people to act wisely. According to the Red Cross, one of the most important things anyone can do when in a hurricane is to ensure they have appropriate shelter. With the proper shelter, while the storm may be raging, a person remains save inside. In the Bible, there is instruction for a person to seek shelter in relation to the storms of life. It speaks of a shelter that is readily available through experiencing a personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ. In Psalms 46:1 it reads, “God is our refuge and strength, A very present help in trouble.

In a recent article published by CTV news it was noted that as inflation inches closer to three percent, economists are warning the steady monthly declines in annual growth will stall and even potentially reverse in the second half of the year. Something that is of infinite worth that has not changed in price over the years has to do with being able to experience salvation. The reason the price has not changed is that it is a gift, you cannot buy it. You can only experience it through faith in Jesus Christ resulting in a transformed life. In the Bible it reads, “8 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, 9 not of works, lest anyone should boast.

This coming Saturday summer is officially over. Something we all know about summer is it passes by quickly. It is here and then the next thing you know it is gone. It is interesting because the Bible describes our very lives as being here and then they are gone. In the book of 1 Peter our lives are referred to as, “our stay here.” It does not last long. In the book of James our lives are pictured as being like a vapor that appears for a little while and then vanishes away. Thankfully, the Bible tells us this life is not the end. In 1 John we are told a way in which life, real life can continue on, it is written, “And this is the testimony: that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son.”

We have become very familiar with biometrics. We have been unlocking iPhones with our fingerprint since 2013 and sometimes we are exposed to facial recognition in order to board airplanes. Something new in the area of biometrics has to do with research at the University of New Brunswick’s Institute Biomedical Engineering has to do with our walk. The Globe and Mail put out an article recently focusing on the findings of this department entitled, “How your walk could shape the future of Biometrics.” Did you know the Bible has insight for followers of Jesus Christ in relation to ones walk. 2 Corinthians 5:7 reads, “For we walk by faith, not by sight.”
