August 4 Recognizing the Value

Do you ever wonder if you have access to something of value that has been made available to you but you have never recognized it? I came across a story of an elderly lady in France who had a painting hanging above the hotplate in her kitchen for many years that she decided to sell when she had to move. The painting ended up being sold for 26.3 million dollars. God has made something of infinite worth available to everyone of us that we need to recognize. John 3:16 reads, 16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

August 2 Number 1 weather related killer

Recently Fox News medical contributor Janette Nesheiwat issued a warning regarding the number one weather related killer. Heat is the number one weather related killer and a person would be wise to address this reality by not being exposed to too much heat and drinking lots of water in the summer. Did you know the Bible has a warning for all of us. We read in Romans 6:23, “The wages of sin is death” and that warning is very concerning, meaning eventual separation from God. Thankfully in that same verse we read that “the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Here the Bible not only provides the warning but also the way to address the warning.

July 31 10-Year-old girl survived more than 24 hours on her own

Recently a 10-year-old girl survived more than 24 hours after traveling down the wrong path in the Cascade mountains and became lost. Thankfully due to the diligent work of a number of people who came to the area to help with the search the young girl was found before something tragic happened. Did you know that the Bible speaks of two paths in life making us aware that choosing the wrong one is tragic? In the book of Matthew it reads, “Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.

July 28 Attacked by a Crocodile

Recently an Australian snorkeler was attacked by a crocodile off the Cape York coast. When he was attacked he realized his head was inside the mouth of the crocodile and was able to pry its jaws open far enough to get his head out. The individual was then attacked a second time but was able to push it away with his arm which was bitten. The snorkeler survived. Did you know in the Bible there is a warning against an attacker, but it is not a crocodile but rather greed. In the book of Proverbs it reads, “There is a generation whose teeth are like swords, And whose fangs are like knives, To devour the poor from off the earth, And the needy from among men.”

July 26 Lighthouse Warnings

Prince Edward Island has the greatest concentration of lighthouses of any province or state in North America. The warnings these lighthouses have provided have inevitably saved numerous lives. Warnings are concerning but of great value. The Bible has a warning for all of us. We read in Romans 6:23 That, “The wages of sin is death” and that is very concerning, meaning eventual separation from God. Thankfully in that same verse we read that “the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Here we have not only the warning but also the way of escape. We are to trust in Jesus resulting in turning from our old way of doing things and following His ways.

July 24 Problem Disconnecting from Work

According to a survey addressed on CTV news, those whom are doing remote work, 47 percent are finding it hard to disconnect from work during vacation. Romote work has it benefits but it makes it harder to disconnect. Sometimes disconnecting is a good thing but in the Bible, when it comes to connecting with God, it is desired. In the book of Psalms it reads, “ O God, You are my God; Early will I seek You; My soul thirsts for You; My flesh longs for You in a dry and thirsty land Where there is no water. So I have looked for You in the sanctuary, To see Your power and Your glory. Because Your lovingkindness is better than life, My lips shall praise You.

July 21 Camp Fire Smoke

It is the season of year for campfires and marsh mellows. Have you ever wondered why campfire smoke seems to follow you? It turns out there is a reason for this phenomenon. Apparently, it all boils down to physics. When a person stands next to a fire they create a barrier that blocks the surrounding air creating a low-pressure zone. This draws the smoke. This can be understood. Did you know there is a phenomenon from the Bible that the Psalmist could not understand? It had to do with the knowledge of God. In Psalm 139 verse 3 it reads, “You comprehend my path and my lying down, And are acquainted with all my ways. In verse 6 it reads, “Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; It is high, I cannot attain it.”

July 19 Higher Risk of Dementia

CNN shared recently regarding a study that noted people who develop prediabetes when they are younger are likely to have a higher risk of dementia in later life. Did you the Bible tells us there is something that all of humanity is not simply at risk of developing but actually has? Romans 3:23 reads, “for all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.” Thankfully the treatment for our sin has been made available and is accessible through the person of Jesus Christ. Romans 6:23 reads, For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

July 17 Confusion

CTV news put out an article recently entitled, “personality changes, confusion could be signs your liver is failing.” The reality is many people do not make a connection to confusion having a connection with their liver failing. Did you know the Bible gives guidance when followers of Jesus Christ are confused about hardships they are facing. It reads, “Consider it pure joy, my brothers, and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.”

July 14 Running In Middle Age Helps Your Brain Function

CTV put out an article entitled running through middle age can help keep brain healthy and neurons wired. Apparently continuing to get your exercise as you age helps keep your brain working better. In the bible in the book of Philippians, the writer Paul addresses other followers of Jesus Christ by sharing something that relates to running that he is moving towards. Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.
