Empowered by Holding hands April 1

Last month the president of North Macedonia heard how an eleven year old girl with Down syndrome was being bullied at school. His response to this was he met with the young girl before school and held her hand and walked her to her elementary school. Needless to say that put the bullies in their place. It is amazing how comforted we can feel when holding the hand of another. Did you know there is a passage in the Bible about knowing God and holding His hand? In the book of Psalms it reads, “Nevertheless I am continually with You; You hold me by my right hand. You will guide me with Your counsel, and afterward receive me to glory. Whom have I in heaven but You? And there is none upon earth that I desire besides You. My flesh and my heart fail; But God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.

Pay Attention to Where you are Going March 30

Last month there was a dashcam video from North Carolina released showing a doctors auto-driven Tesla slamming into a parked police vehicle which then strikes a sheriff’s deputy. After the car crash it was determined that the driver was not paying attention to where he was going but while the car was on autopilot he was watching a movie. Did you know in the Bible Jesus warns people to make sure they are pay close attention to where they are going. He provides instruction to direct people to Himself. In the book of Matthew, it is written, “Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.

The right pursuit March 28

If you do a Google search you will find it notes there are 4200 religions in the world today. I have had conversations with different people in the past, talking about God, in which they have shared they do not like religion. I have responded by sharing that I do not like religion as well. I then proceed to tell them I am not interested in pursuing religion. I am interested in pursuing a relationship. A relationship with God. A relationship that was made possible by Jesus going to the cross and paying for the price of our sins. The Bible tells us in John 1:12 But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name. I have encouraged those whom I have talked to in the past, “Don’t pursue religion, pursue a relationship.”

A High Price March 25

Recently there was a couple from Hawaii who received a bill from the Hawaiian Electric Company saying they were the legal owners of a particular street and owed over $18,000 in unpaid invoices. Imagine getting an $18000 electric bill! They frantically contacted various individuals and were able to prove they were not in fact the owners of the contested street and therefore did not have to pay the electric company. Did you know in the Bible it is identified that there is a payment that has to be made for our sin before a Holy God and there is no mistake about this. Thankfully though there has been a payment made that we can access through faith resulting in a changed life. 1st Timothy 2:5 reads, “For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus, 6 who gave Himself a ransom for all.”

A Walk of Love March 23

Last month Shannon Onge found herself lost in a blinding blizzard parked on the side of the road as she was out for a 25 kilometer drive for work which ended up being a 14 hour ordeal. She called 911 for help and was encouraged to leave her car parked and wait for the blizzard to pass but she was concerned about being hit on the side of the road. She reached out to facebook and shared her gps location and Andrew Bouvier, an 80 year old retiree was contacted and headed out in the storm. He met Shannon and walked in front of her car and directed her to his home where she was safe and stayed to wait out the storm. Did you know the Bible shares about a very important walk? In the book of Ephesians it reads, “And walk in love, as Christ also has loved us and given Himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling aroma.”

3.6 Million Dollar Car March 21

Last month a car was auctioned off at Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale charity event for a record 3.6 million dollars. The charity was raising money for military families. The car is a yellow 2023 Chevrolet Corvette Z06. It is the highest-performance version of the Corvette powered by a 670 hp V8. Imagine owning a car that cost 3.6 million dollars. It would be like driving a real treasure. In the Bible Jesus shares a story of a man who found a treasure in a field and then went and sold all that he had to buy the field so he could have the treasure. The treasure pictured is the kingdom of heaven and is of infinite worth but we can actually possess it. Jesus also shared the way into the kingdom. He said in John 14:6 I am the way and the truth and the life, no one comes to the father but by me.

Young Boy Saved in House Fire March 18

Last month there was a house fire in Moose Lake Manitoba in which a young child was rescued. The house was located directly across from the local RCMP detachment. When two officers from the detachment realized there was a house fire and a child still trapped inside they broke windows in the home to let the smoke out so they could search for the child. The two officers eventually found the child on the floor covered in a blanket. The five year old child was saved from the burning house before it was completely consumed. It was a successful rescue! Did you know there is a rescue shared about in the Bible that is successful for all who receive the help provided? John 3:16 reads, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”

A Message in a Bottle March 16

Last month BBC news shared a story about a message in a bottle sent by a young girl in Scotland that was found in Norway 25 years later. When the bottle was launched off Peterhead Scotland, from a fishing boat, Joanna Buchan was eight years old taking part in a school project. The bottle was found 800 miles away at Gasvaer in Norther Norway. The person who found the bottle tracked down Joanna on social media. In the neatly handwritten letter it described Joanna’s pet dog, her school project, and her love of collecting Blu Tack. The letter was perfectly preserved for 25 years in the bottle. Did you know the Bible shares about the preservation of something written that will last not only for 25 years but forever? In the book of Isaiah it reads, “The grass withers, the flower fades, But the word of our God stands forever.”

BC Wildfires March 14

The past wildfire season in BC was the third worst on record for the amount of area burned in the province. The fires burnt over 8,700 square kilometers. Just to put that into perspective the whole province of PEI is 5660 square kilometers. Do you know all that would be required to destroy that much land? Essentially a little spark that catches and burns and spreads and jumps to create more fires. A spark is so small and seemingly insignificant but it can be so powerful. Did you know the Bible compares a person’s tongue with a small fire that can be extremely destructive? In the book of James it reads, Even so the tongue is a little member and boasts great things. See how great a forest a little fire kindles! It would be wise to be cautious of the potential damage you could create today with the wrong use of your tongue.

Knowing the Right Answer March 11

Last month the host of the American program Jeopardy asked a question about PEI that no one was able to answer. The TV shows champion at the time chose a category within the Double Jeopardy round under the title Local Nicknames. $2000 was the amount that would be awarded to the contestant with the right response to the answer, “A Spud Islander is a resident of this Canadian province, known for its potatoes.” At that point in the game everything went quiet because no one knew the answer. Did you know in the Bible there is an answer given to a question that has a value of infinite worth. It answers the question, “can I know I have eternal life?” In the book of 1st John it is written, “These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life.”
