RCMP in Newfoundland are warning drug users of the danger of using cocaine. Cocaine is currently the leading drug causing overdose and deaths in Newfound and Labrador. Did you know the Bible tells us that we have all been corrupted by something that is deadly that has to be addressed? Romans 3:23 reads, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God and later on it reads, “for the wages of sin is death.” Death meaning eventual separation from God. Thankfully this same verse later tells us that, “but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Unfortunately the three things listed are bacon, white bread, and French fries. The fact is though, life is short and we would be wise not simply to watch what we eat but ensure while we are here to get to know the one whom the Bible describes as the giver of life, breath, and all things. The time we have to do this is relatively short and it is not something to put off. We are informed, in the Bible, in the book of James, “For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away.”

CTV news reported that Lisa Prosser from Ontario was shocked to find out that fines from 20 years ago suddenly tanked her credit score. These fines were provincial and municipal and are not statute-barred which means there is no limit on how long creditors have to pursue collections. In the article it was noted how this type of debt will never go away unless it is dealt with. Did you know the Bible addresses a debt that we all owe and thankfully states a way in which it can be paid. In the Book of Romans it reads, “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Do you struggle with not sleeping at night? According to a recent study one of the most helpful things you can do is get some exercise. A sleep expert said, “physically active people have a lower risk of insomnia symptoms and extreme sleep duration, both long and short.” Getting exercise is important if you want to get a good rest. Did you know Jesus shared about getting rest but He was not referring to sleep. He said, Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

Are you a student looking for employment this summer? The media agency, Social Hire, has noted 3 things employers typically look up on Facebook before hiring a student. The first thing they mentioned is employers are looking to see if you are a party person. The second thing they want to know is if you have spoken poorly of your previous boss or place of employment. A study from the university of Cambridge indicates it may be possible to detect dementia a decade before an individual is diagnosed. The new findings make is possible to screen at-risk patients who qualify for early medical treatment. Those considered to be of a higher risk are those over fifty whom have high blood pressure or do not do enough exercise. Last month a 7.7 magnitude earthquake hit Myanmar causing the loss of over 3000 lives. There were many stories of devastation reported from the country but there were also stories of great determination and effort in order to save lives. There was the story of a successful rescue of a 26 year old man who was covered under the rubble of a hotel for 5 days. It was an amazing rescue! Did you know there is a rescue shared about in the Bible that is absolutely amazing and is successful for all who take part? John 3:16 reads, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”

In an article published by CNN entitled, “Why your body “hiccups” as you fall asleep”, it is noted that nearly 70 percent of the population experience a twitching, jerking that can hinder a person from falling asleep or wake them if they do. A scientist from the article noted in relation to this movement, “It is not a good thing but health wise it presents nothing to worry about”. Did you know there is a wake-up call in the Bible to Christians who are not living as they should? This disturbance in sleep is truly beneficial! Romans 13:11 reads, “And do this, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep; for now our salvation is nearer than when we first believed.”
