February 14 God is Unchanging

In the month of February, we don’t get to see the leaves on the trees but thankfully regardless of the wind or snow or lack of daylight the evergreen trees are still green. They are green in the winter, spring, fall and summer. These trees that do not change in color can be used as a means to consider an attribute of God. God who does not change. James 1:17 reads, “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.

February 12 Recognizing Truth

The World Economic Form shared in a report that, “False and misleading information supercharged with cutting-edge artificial intelligence that threatens to erode democracy and polarize society is the top immediate risk to the global economy.” It appears that recognizing truth is going to be a challenge in the future. Thankfully almost 2000 years ago truth was identified in a person and you can find it in the Bible for now and into the future and this truth does not change. In the book of John chapter 6 Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.”

February 10 ATM Theft

CTV news reported recently regarding a theft that happened at a North York financial institution in Toronto. The thieves stole an excavator and crashed into the building and then stole the ATM. Police are more familiar with thieves trying to rob people at an ATM but the theft of an entire ATM machine is a unique dynamic but surprisingly is becoming more common. Did you know in the Bible Jesus tells people to be on the outlook for a particular thief? John 10:10 reads, “The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.

February 7 Restoration

It is well known that smoking has harmful effects on the heart and lungs, but a study by the Washington School of Medicine in St. Louis has indicated that it also affects the brain. Apparently smoking shrinks the brain. Quitting smoking prevents further loss of brain tissue but stopping smoking does not restore the brain to its original size. Restoration is a valuable thing. Did you know the Bible teaches about spiritual restoration, renewal when it comes to hoping, trusting, waiting on God. Isaiah 40:31 reads, “but those who wait on the LORD, shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint.”

February 5 Overdue

A book was returned to a library in Massachusetts that made the headlines. What was so unique about this book was that it was checked out in 1934. It was well overdue! Did you know the Bible tells us that while we are alive we are not yet overdue but our opportunity to get right with God will pass? In 2 Corinthians 6:2 it reads, “Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.” We are also told the means of experiencing this salvation in John 3:16, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

February 3 Shortest Month of the Year

We are into February, it is not only the coldest but it is the shortest month of the year. Thankfully it does not take long and we are into a warmer month. The next thing you know it will be March. Do you know something else that is short. The Bible describes life as short. It describes life as being like a vapor. Something that appears for a little while and then vanishes away. The Bible also tells us that through embracing Jesus Christ as our Saviour we can know we will be with Him for eternity. Romans 6:23 reads, For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

January 31 End of January

We are closing in on the end of January and I must ask, how have you been doing with your New Year’s Resolution? Did you spend a lot of time planning on what you were going to do? Are you struggling with following up or is it already a memory? Leadership expert John Maxwell has been quoted as saying, “much time is spent setting goals, but not enough time is spent on follow-through.” Here is something to consider. Why not get back to focusing on the follow through. Why not focus on making today count. In the Bible, in the book of Psalms it speaks of focusing on the day. It reads, “This is the day the LORD has made; We will rejoice and be glad in it

January 29 Managing Hearing Loss

A study was published in JAMA Neurology that proposed that managing hearing loss may help prevent or delay cognitive decline and dementia. Within the study group the use of hearing aids was associated with a nineteen percent reduction in long term cognitive decline with those who needed hearing aids and accurately used them. Did you know the Bible shares how essential hearing is in the context of faith. It is not necessary that a person literally hears this truth but rather comes to know it which can happen through reading and embrace it. Romans 10:17 reads, “So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” A great question to consider is how is your hearing?

January 27 Fish and Chips

Last month John Tinniswood from the United Kingdom died. You likely never heard of him before but for a short stint he held the world’s record for the verified oldest man at one hundred and twelve. He did not leave any wisdom behind regarding his secret to a long life but there was one thing he ate once a week. Every Friday he would eat fish and chips. Fish would add some nutritional benefits but not so much the chips. Did you know the Bible provides direction on receiving spiritual nutrition and it is not through what a person eats but reads. 1 Peter 2:2 states, as newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby.

January 24 Carfentanil

Fentanyl has made a lot of headlines for driving overdose deaths. Tragically there is now an altered form of fentanyl that is said to be 100 times stronger according to the Center for disease Control and Prevention. It is called carfentanil and it is absolutely deadly! Did you know the Bible tells us that we have all been injected with something that is deadly that has to be addressed? Romans 3:23 reads, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God and later on it reads, “for the wages of sin is death.” Death meaning eventual separation from God. Thankfully this same verse later tells us that, “but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
