Last month a 7-year-old boy was credited for helping to save his father and 4-year-old sister by swimming to shore and calling for help after they got caught in a strong current while swimming during a boating trip in Florida. The father could not swim his young daughter to safety against the current so he drifted away from the boat, and land, with her. The young boy swam against the current for an hour until he finally reached land and went to a house to call for help. I am sure the whole time he was swimming his thoughts were consumed with the immediate need of his father and little sister. Did you know that the Bible tells us that everyone should be living with an ongoing recognition of the need of salvation made possible through Jesus Christ until it happens? It reads, “Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.

The recent visit of the Marco Polo to Halifax has given this city the title of accommodating the largest container ship to visit a Canadian port. This ship is almost as long as 3 Canadian football fields and can carry the equivalent of 16,022 containers that are each 20 feet long. One has to wonder what makes it possible to be able to carry such an enormous load. It is interesting because the Bible points out an enormous load that Jesus took upon Himself. He shares in the Bible that He will give His life as a ransom for many. It is something to consider how Jesus’ life could be of such value that it would be worth, able to deal with, address the sins of humanity. The reason being was that His life was not like any other life. He was God in the flesh. Jesus said in John 10:30, “I and My Father are one”.

Have you ever had anyone break into your car and steal something? I have, and it is not pleasant to get in your car and realize something valuable has been taken. Recently there was a gentleman caught in Florida for breaking into a car and stealing items. The interesting twist to this story is how he got caught. When he broke into the car he dropped his cell phone and it was left in the car. The police had no problem catching him and holding him accountable. The fact is we all have done things that are someday going to catch up with us if we do not address them now. Through trusting in Jesus Christ as your Saviour your sins can be taken care of now. In the Bible 1 John 1:9 reads, “9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

The NHL entry draft is scheduled for July 23rd. Don’t you find it interesting in professional sports how they form their teams? Something I find very fascinating is when a player from one team is traded to another team for multiple players. The talent of one player being recognized as being the equivalent to the talent of 2, three or 4 other players. That always gets my interest. Something I find to be beyond fascinating, that has been pointed out in the Bible, has to do with a trade made by Jesus Christ for the salvation of humanity. His life, Jesus being God in the flesh, being of such value, valuable enough to pay for the sin of all humanity. Jesus says of himself in Matthew 20:28, “just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.”

Recently my youngest daughter Sitota had her 11th birthday party. Something she did at her party was she opened up gifts. Thankfully, each of the gifts she received, had a note indicating who gave her that particular present. She knew whom to passionately thank for each of the gifts she received. Did you know, the Bible tells us who is ultimately responsible for all the truly good gifts we receive in life? James 1:17 reads, “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights. We are also informed in Acts 17:25, in relation to God, “He gives to all life, breath, and all things.” You do not have to wonder whom to be thankful to for all good things. The ultimate source is God.

This summer my wife, Trisha, and I will have been married for 25 years. Something we intentionally invest into is going on dates together. Friday night in typically our date night. We spend intentional time together to invest into our relationship. I believe there are a lot of people who have a wrong perception of the Bible. They view it as a book in which a person simply gains knowledge from. Now while there is a wealth of information in the Bible, the main purpose of reading it is not to simply gain knowledge. I view reading my Bible as a means of investing into my relationship with God. Hebrews 11:6 reads but without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. Reading God’s word is a great way to seek Him!

Did you know that a tiny sketch of a bear by Leonardo da Vinci is expected to sell for over $16 million at auction on July 8th. Apparently, this is one of only eight Leonardo drawings left in private hands. This sketch measures less than eight square inches. Who could ever imagine a small drawing on a piece of paper could ever be worth so much. In the Bible, Jesus addresses the value of the kingdom of heaven. He shares a story of a man who found a treasure in a field and then went and sold all that he had to buy the field so he could have the treasure. The kingdom of heaven is of infinite worth beyond what we can fully comprehend but we can possess it. Jesus also shared the way into the kingdom. He said in John 14:6 I am the way and the truth and the life, no one comes to the father but by me.

July 1st is a wonderful day of celebration. The whole country of Canada joins in as we celebrate the birth of this great nation. There are many festivities that are organized to celebrate in our various provinces and territories. The most noticeable and anticipated of these events are the fireworks. A clear indication that something worth celebrating has taken place are the magnificent lights and colours that fill the sky. Did you know there are times in heaven of great celebration? We do not know just what this celebration consists of but we do know that there is great joy. We are also told the reason for this time of celebration. In the book of Luke chapter 15 verse 10 Jesus says, “Likewise I say to you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.”

Have you ever seen an advertisement promoting the possibility of having one’s criminal record removed? I am sure anyone who has a criminal record would love to erase that record from their history. Imagine not being able to travel because of something that comes up from your past whenever you get to the border? The Bible tells us of a way we can have our sins before God removed. It tells us of a way we can have a clean record. A means that is made possible by a person being sorry for their sin and trusting in what Jesus did on the cross as a payment for their sin. Causing a person from then on to see sin differently and God differently. This clearance is spoken of in Psalm 103:12 which reads, “As far as the east is from the west, So far has He removed our transgressions from us

Did you know Dutch researchers have trained Bees to identify samples infected with Covid19? These researchers are hoping to be able to cut down the wait time for tests, to just seconds. These bees apparently extend their tongues to receive a reward, sugary water, when presented with an infected sample. Did you know the Bible tells us God has given us a conscience to help us detect sin? Acts 24:16 reads, “I myself strive to have a conscience without offence toward God and men.” Something else the Bible tells us is that not only do we have a way to detect sin but also a way to be cleansed from it. A way made possible through coming to know Jesus Christ as ones Savior. 1 John 1:9 reads, If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
