Aug 13 – The Right to be Forgotten

A Spanish newspaper reported when Mario Gonzales’ home was foreclosed on. But 16 years later, it showed up on Google. Mr. Gonzales appealed for the “right to be forgotten” and Europe’s highest court ordered that he had a right to be free from information that is no longer relevant. Predictably Google is now being besieged by many others, asking for part of their history to be forgotten. We may be able to erase unpleasant things from our record here on earth, but God knows all about us. King David, writing in Psalm 139 says, “O Lord, you have searched me and known me. You know my sitting down and my rising up. You understand my thought afar off… ‘where can I flee from your presence?’ Obviously no one can hide from the God of the universe. Sensibly, then, David prays, a prayer we should all consider praying- “Search me O God and know heart. Try me and know my anxieties. And see if there is any wicked way in me.”
