Kate is a beautiful, young lady, in her 20s attending an Ontario university. When she was very young, and was offered help, often her reply was, “I can do it myself.” While still young, we are taught self-reliance by wise parents. So we conclude “I can do it myself, “and many tasks wecan and should do for ourselves. But nobody is good or strong enough to make it into heaven, because “there is none righteous, no not one.” So doing our best is not good enough since fitness for heaven is “not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy.. .” If we sincerely want to be ready for heaven, let’s not say, “I can do it myself.” We can’t. But Paul told us about Jesus’ intervention for us, writing, “when we were yet without strength, in due time, Christ died for the ungodly.“ .
