Change, Change, Change September 5, 2018

The average lifespan for an American male in 1910 was just 47 years. Today the average lifespan is about 78 years. Only 14 per cent of homes had a bathtub. Only 8 per cent of homes had a telephone. Change continues to escalate rapidly. The older we get, the less we like change. Francis Lyte, in the hymn “Abide with Me” noted, “Change and decay, in all around I see…” Speaking of our Heavenly Father, Lyte added, “O thou who changest not, abide with me.” Yes, there are some things which never change. God never changes. He said, “I am the Lord I change not.” Our Saviour does not change. Of Him it is written, “Jesus Christ the same, yesterday, and today and forever.” Jesus made a promise which He has never changed, nor taken back. “Behold I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in.” All of us can have this changeless One in our lives.
