It is known simply as a “chicken cup,” one of the most expensive Chinese cultural relics ever auctioned. It is a rare wine cup fired in the imperial kilns of China’s Ming Dynasty more than 500 years ago. it sold for an astounding 36 million dollars at a Sotheby’s auction in Hong Kong. Amazing! But there has been a much greater and costlier purchase. The Bible informs us that Jesus paid the ultimate price for our sins with His life, when He went to the Cross. Paul the Apostle was inspired to write “…God demonstrates His own love toward us in that when we were still sinners, Christ died for us. .” The “chicken cup” will no doubt benefit its buyers when it is re-sold, but the purchase made by Christ brings eternal benefits for all who receive the gift of everlasting life which He offers to those who sincerely ask for it.
