Carbon dioxide has been called the “silent killer.” It is invisible, odorless, and tasteless. It is a reminder that what we don’t know can hurt us. Sadly, many put their heads in the proverbial sand and ignore warnings of imminent danger, thinking, “It won’t happen to me.” This is most serious when pertaining to the next life. Refusing to act upon our responsibility to make our peace with God does not change the truth. One New Testament writer asked, “How shall we escape if we neglect so great a salvation?” Jesus, when the people of His day rejected His offer of forgiveness and eternal life, cried out, “O Jerusalem, Jerusalem. How I wanted to gather your children together as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, but you were not willing.” That offer is still open to all people today.
