August 21 Watching what you eat

Did you know that eating higher levels of ultra-processed food may shorten lifespan by more than 10%? CNN shared that according to a new, unpublished study of over 500,000 people whom researchers followed for nearly three decades that was the findings. It is wise to watch what you eat! Did you also know the Bible has something very essential to share regarding not what we eat but what we think. A way of thinking that is available for a person whom has experienced salvation through Jesus Christ? It reads, “And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.”

August 19 Finding Satisfaction

If you were to look up synonyms for the word ponder you would find such words as meditate, contemplate, reflect. Sometimes we need to be told to stop and consider what is really satisfies. In the Bible it reads, “thus says the LORD of hosts: “Consider your ways! “You have sown much, and bring in little; You eat, but do not have enough; You drink, but you are not filled with drink; You clothe yourselves, but no one is warm; And he who earns wages, Earns wages to put into a bag with holes.” The bible also gives direction on where to find real satisfaction. Jesus shares this in the book of John, “I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.”

August 16 Hurricane for the Record Books

Last month hurricane Beryl left a lot of devastation in its path. It became the strongest July hurricane on record reaching maximum sustained winds of 165 mile per hour. It also became the earliest category 5 hurricane on record. It was a storm that broke records. Did you know the Bible informs us that there will be storms in our personal lives? The reality is these storms will occur in our lives but the Bible has instruction in regard to the proper focus during those storms. It is not to be on the storms but on God. In the book of Isaiah, chapter 26 verse 3 it reads, “You will keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you because he trusts in you.

August 14 Roller Coaster Tragedy

The National Post shared a story about a roller coaster that derailed in an amusement park in Stockholm Sweden. The roller coaster derailed at a height of about 25 feet. Police said the tragedy left one dead and nine injured. Did you know that in the Bible, in the book of Matthew Jesus illustrates a future tragedy in which he shares the cause and outcome. He says, “But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall.”

August 12 Fear

Dr. Robert Hunter, OCEARCH’s senior advisor for science and academics shared with fox news tips to keep in mind when swimming in the ocean in order to avoid a shark attack. 1. Do not swim out too far 2. There is safety in numbers 3. Avoid shiny jewelry and bright colored bathing suits 4. Swim in the ocean during the day. Many people are looking for such tips because they fear being attacked by a shark. Healthy fear can cause a person to act wisely. Did you know in the bible it speaks of fear as a very good thing although it is referring primarily to awe and reverence. Proverbs 1:7 reads, the fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge.

August 9 Lawn Cutting

Summer is a wonderful time of year. Something that is connected with summer that is not so wonderful is lawn cutting. The grass just keeps growing and growing and if a person is not on top of it the result is a mess. Did you know there is instruction given in the Bible for a person who is a follower of Jesus Christ in regard to keeping on top of something that if not addressed just keeps building and building. It has to do with addressing sin that a person falls into. Sin has to be dealt with on a regular basis and a person has to seek God’s strength to turn away from it. 1 John 1:9 reads, If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

August 7 Number one weather related killer

Fox News medical contributor Janette Nesheiwat issued a warning regarding the number one weather related killer. Do you know what it is? Heat is the number one weather related killer and a person would be wise to address this reality by not being exposed to too much heat and drinking lots of water in the summer. Did you know the Bible has a warning for all of us. We read in Romans 6:23, “The wages of sin is death” and that warning is very concerning, meaning eventual separation from God. Thankfully in that same verse we read that “the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Here the Bible not only provides the warning but also the way to address the warning.

August 5 Breakfast on the Farm

Recently an event was hosted in Summerside called Breakfast on a Farm. Guests who attended the event were treated to a locally sourced breakfast. It was a unique opportunity for farmers, visitors and Islanders to share a meal and have a conversation about food and successful farming practices. Did you know the bible gives instruction on the best practice available regarding not farming but spiritual growth? In the book of Hosea it reads, “Sow for yourselves righteousness; Reap in mercy; Break up your fallow ground, For it is time to seek the LORD, Till He comes and rains righteousness on you.

August 2 Being at Risk

CNN shared an article regarding a study that noted people who develop prediabetes when they are younger are likely to have a higher risk of dementia in later life. Did you the Bible tells us there is something that all of humanity is not simply at risk of developing but actually has? Romans 3:23 reads, “for all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.” Thankfully the treatment for our sin has been made available and is accessible through the person of Jesus Christ. Romans 6:23 reads, For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

July 31 Running Through Middle Age

CTV put out an article entitled running through middle age can help keep brain healthy and neurons wired. Apparently continuing to get your exercise as you age helps keep your brain working better. In the bible in the book of Philippians, the writer Paul addresses other followers of Jesus Christ by sharing something that relates to running that he is moving towards. He writes, “Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.”
