There has been lots of news reports regarding large fires throughout Canada and the U.S. this past summer causing a great deal of destruction. Do you know all that is required to start the destruction a fire brings? Essentially a little spark that catches and burns and spreads. A spark is so small and seemingly insignificant but it can be so powerful. Did you know the Bible compares a person’s tongue with a small fire that can be extremely destructive? In the book of James it reads, Even so the tongue is a little member and boasts great things. See how great a forest a little fire kindles! It would be wise to be cautious of the potential damage you could create today with the wrong use of your tongue.

Recently more than 800 Civil-War-era gold coins were dug up in a Kentucky corn field. It is a treasure worth millions of dollars. According to Fox News, experts are calling it one of the greatest finds of the twenty-first century. In the Bible, Jesus shares a story of a man who found a treasure in a field and then went and sold all that he had to buy the field so he could have the treasure. He also gave the teaching behind the story being that the kingdom of heaven is like the treasure found in the field and it is of more value than anything we possess. Jesus also shared the way into the kingdom and to have access to the king. He said in John 14:6 I am the way and the truth and the life, no one comes to the father but by me.

Number 1 regular exercise; Number 2 Not becoming addicted to opioids; Number 3 Not using tobacco; Number 4 managing stress; Number 5 Eating a plant based diet; Number 6 Avoiding binge drinking; Number 7 Getting a good nights sleep; Number 8 being surrounded by positive relationships. Did you know the Bible has direction on not simply living longer but rather forever with God. John 3:16 reads, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”

Do you know what your credit score is? CTV news put out an article recently entitled, “what is considered a good credit score?” In Canada, credit scores range between 300 and 900. It is assessed overtime depending on your purchases and ability to pay your debt. According to this article a good credit score is between 660 and 724. Did you know some people think God assesses them overtime to see if they are good enough to go to heaven. This is not the case as Ephesians 2:8-9 reads, 8 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, 9 not of works, lest anyone should boast.

September presents a new start to students. A new school year presents an opportunity to do well, learn, prepare for the future and to make new friends. It is exciting and beneficial to look ahead with anticipation! In the Bible, in the book of 1 Corinthians chapter 2 verse 9 the apostle Paul encourages all those whom have embraced Jesus Christ as their Saviour to look ahead. Not only to look ahead but also be prepared to experience what is beyond what their minds can comprehend. It reads, “Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love Him.”

Recently U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers intercepted a narcotics smuggling attempt of nearly 900,000 fentanyl pills that were concealed inside of porcelain sinks. Fentanyl is an opioid drug that is 50 times stronger than heroin. It is deadly! Did you know the Bible tells us that we have all been injected with something that is deadly that has to be addressed? In the book of Romans it reads, “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God”, and later on it reads, “for the wages of sin is death.” Death meaning eventual separation from God. Thankfully this same verse that tells us what the wages of sin causes also tells us that, “but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

In an article recently published by CNBC, two traits are shared regarding the Japanese secret for a long life. Living longer has been liked with healthy eating and exercise but apparently a person’s personality also has a role to play. Two personality traits that appear to be linked to a long life are 1st of all a positive attitude and secondly a persons ability to not bottle up their emotions but make an effort to communicate how they feel to those around them. The mayo clinic put out an article recently noting how depression and anxiety symptoms often improve with exercise. The article also shared some realistic tips to help a person get started and stay motivated. It noted how a person should figure out what physical activities you enjoy most and when and how you would be most likely to consistently follow through. It also noted to not look at physical exercise as a chore but rather as a therapy secession. Did you know the Bible also notes there are benefits with exercise but shares something that is of much greater value. It reads, “ For bodily exercise profits a little, but godliness is profitable for all things, having promise of the life that now is and of that which is to come.”

A new study was published in the journal Sleep Health that noted how taking a short nap during the day may help boost your brain health as you get older. In the study it was determined that those who took short naps were more likely to have larger amounts of brain volume. The researchers defined short naps as ideally being between 5 to fifteen minutes. In the Bible in the book of Matthew Jesus shares about the importance of rest although he is not talking about napping. He says, Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
