According to new research presented last month at the Heart Failure 2023 Scientific Congress, having a higher level of leg mussel strength appears to be “strongly associated” with a lower risk of developing a heart failure after a heart attack. So, in essence, if you had a heart attack it might be wise to join a gym. Did you know the Bible speaks about strengthening ones legs. This was shared about 600 years before the coming of Jesus. It reads, “Strengthen the weak hands, and make firm the feeble knees, say to those who are fearful-hearted, “be strong, do not fear! Behold your God will come with vengeance, with the recompense of God; He will come and save you.”

The 2023 NHL Entry Draft was just completed recently. Don’t you find it interesting in professional sports how they form their teams? Something I find very fascinating is when a player from one team is traded to another team for multiple players. Something I find to be beyond fascinating, that is revealed in the Bible, has to do with a trade made by Jesus Christ for the salvation of humanity. His life, Jesus being God in the flesh, being of such value, valuable enough to pay for the sin of all humanity. Jesus says of himself in Matthew 20:28, “just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.”

Recently a video of a firefighter from Southern California saving his one year old son from drowning in a pool circulated on social media. The Firefighters Association said on Facebook, “Even though both parents took all proper precautions including a gate around the pool and an appropriate PFD, the boy still managed to get in the water.” Thankfully it was a successful rescue. Did you know there is a rescue shared about in the Bible that is absolutely amazing and is successful for all who take part? John 3:16 reads, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”

Thankfully last month the four indigenous children were found alive whose plane had crashed and were lost in the Amazon jungle for forty days by themselves. The children were 13, 9, 4 as well as a baby who was 11 months old. Did you know the bible shares about a search that God is on? In the book of Luke, Jesus shares regarding Himself that, “for the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost. We are lost because our sin has separated us from God. We are found when we recognize that the penalty for our sin was paid by Jesus Christ on the cross and we can access that payment by placing our faith and trust in Him for our salvation resulting in a changed life.

According Guinness World Records the most expensive ice cream in the world costs $6,380 for a serving. It is made in Japan and is known as “white night”. Can you imagine paying such a price for ice cream? Some people have such a desire to enjoy the ice cream they are actually paying this high price. I would say people are desiring something in this case that would not be worth the expense. In the Bible, Jesus speaks of having a desire that can definitely be satisfied. He says in the book of Matthew, “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness for they shall be filled.” The Bible also tells us that the means to experience this righteousness is through Jesus.

Last month Bill Russell’s 1957 rookie card sold for $660,000. Who would of thought a small piece of cardboard with a picture on it could be worth so much? In the Bible, Jesus addresses the value of the kingdom of heaven. He shares a story of a man who found a treasure in a field and then went and sold all that he had to buy the field so he could have the treasure. The kingdom of heaven is of infinite worth beyond what we can fully comprehend but we can possess it. Jesus also shared the way to the king and kingdom. He said in John 14:6 I am the way and the truth and the life, no one comes to the father but by me.

Are you sleeping poorly due to job stress? CTV news shared a new study recently that suggested that may be due to a lack of support from co-workers and higher-ups. The study highlighted the important role the workplace environment and stress have beyond the setting of work. What happens at work can correlate to how well you sleep at night. Did you know the Bible has something to say about rest but it is not in reference to sleep. In the book of Matthew, Jesus says, Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

CNN put out an article last month noting how Sebastian Steudtner holds the world record for the biggest wave ever surfed. It is 86 feet, the equivalent to surfing an eight-story building. His mentality to tacking these big waves in his words is, “you must be prepared to die.” Did you know the Bible warns us we all should be prepared to die being that we do not know what day will be our last. In the book of James we are told that life is like, “a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away.” The Bible also informs us a means in which God made it possible for us to be prepared. John 3:16 reads, For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

An article was published by CNN last month by Monica Parker entitled, “Happiness is a trap. Here’s what to pursue instead”, the writer outlines the limits of simply pursuing happiness and enforces the importance of pursuing wonder which she identifies to be of a much greater value. Did you know the Bible places a lot of emphasis on wonder in relation to God? In the book of Psalms the writer is addressing the knowledge of God and writes, “O LORD, You have searched me and known me. You know my sitting down and my rising up; You understand my thought afar off.” The Psalmist in summarizing he thoughts on the knowledge of God writes, “Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; It is high, I cannot attain it.”
