September 1 900,000 Fentanyl Pills Seized

Recently U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers intercepted a narcotics smuggling attempt of nearly 900,000 fentanyl pills that were concealed inside of porcelain sinks. Fentanyl is an opioid drug that is 50 times stronger than heroin. It is deadly! Did you know the Bible tells us that we have all been injected with something that is deadly that has to be addressed? In the book of Romans it reads, “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God”, and later on it reads, “for the wages of sin is death.” Death meaning eventual separation from God. Thankfully this same verse that tells us what the wages of sin causes also tells us that, “but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

August 30 Two Essential Attitudes to Living Longer

In an article recently published by CNBC, two traits are shared regarding the Japanese secret for a long life. Living longer has been liked with healthy eating and exercise but apparently a person’s personality also has a role to play. Two personality traits that appear to be linked to a long life are 1st of all a positive attitude and secondly a persons ability to not bottle up their emotions but make an effort to communicate how they feel to those around them. Did you know the Bible has direction on not simply living longer but rather forever with God. John 3:16 reads, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”

August 28 Exercise

The mayo clinic put out an article recently noting how depression and anxiety symptoms often improve with exercise. The article also shared some realistic tips to help a person get started and stay motivated. It noted how a person should figure out what physical activities you enjoy most and when and how you would be most likely to consistently follow through. It also noted to not look at physical exercise as a chore but rather as a therapy secession. Did you know the Bible also notes there are benefits with exercise but shares something that is of much greater value. It reads, “ For bodily exercise profits a little, but godliness is profitable for all things, having promise of the life that now is and of that which is to come.”

August 25 Napping

A new study was published in the journal Sleep Health that noted how taking a short nap during the day may help boost your brain health as you get older. In the study it was determined that those who took short naps were more likely to have larger amounts of brain volume. The researchers defined short naps as ideally being between 5 to fifteen minutes. In the Bible in the book of Matthew Jesus shares about the importance of rest although he is not talking about napping. He says, Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

August 23 Summer Travel

In are article put out by CNN travel entitled Flight Attendants’ Secrets for Surviving Summer Travel there are a number of tips that are very time sensitive. A tip is if you can, travel early in the day. The fact being that there are less cancelations first thing in the morning. Another tip is to leave a buffer zone. If possible, leave a day or two between your scheduled arrival and a big event such as a wedding. Another tip is to avoid tight connections because with tight connections comes the likelihood of missing your flight. Did you know the Bible has a time sensitive tip when it comes to salvation. 2 Corinthians 6:2 reads, “Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.

August 21 Harmful Sweetener

Medical News Today shared about a recent study noting how a chemical found in common artificial sweeteners appears to be harmful to gut health and may even lead to cancer. Many people turn to artificial sugar substitutes to reduce their calorie intake but a growing body of evidence shows potential health risks with certain substitutes. The substitute that was the focus of the study was sucralose. A person has to be careful of that which seems sweet but can eventually be deadly. Did you know in the Bible it describes sin as something that can seem good and beneficial for a short time but eventually brings destruction. In the book of Hebrews it speaks of the reality that sin can bring pleasure for a season but as noted in the book of Romans, its side effects are deadly.

August 18 Benefits of Reading

A study put out recently by the journal Psychological Medicine noted how those whom read for pleasure early in life tend to end up with better test scores and mental health. The study also showed that children whom read early in life showed fewer signs of stress and depression, improved attention, fewer behavior problems and generally slept longer. The study showed reading to be beneficial in a number of ways. Did you know the importance of reading is addressed in the Bible. In addressing those whom are followers of Jesus Christ it reads, as newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby.

August 16 Sailor Found

Last month a sailor and his dog were lost at sea and rescued by a Mexican tuna trawler after being stranded for over two months in the South Pacific Ocean. A storm damaged the sailors catamaran and all of his electronics on board. Did you know the bible shares about a search that God is on for the lost? In the book of Luke, Jesus shares regarding Himself that, “for the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost. We are lost because our sin has separated us from God. We are found when we recognize that the penalty for our sin was paid for by Jesus Christ on the cross and we place our faith and trust in Him for our salvation resulting in a changed life.

August 14 Consider Your Ways

If you were to look up synonyms for the word ponder you would find such words as meditate, contemplate, reflect. Sometimes we need to be told to stop and consider what is really satifies. In the Bible it reads, “thus says the LORD of hosts: “Consider your ways! “You have sown much, and bring in little; You eat, but do not have enough; You drink, but you are not filled with drink; You clothe yourselves, but no one is warm; And he who earns wages, Earns wages to put into a bag with holes.” The bible also gives direction on where to find real satisfaction. Jesus shares this in the book of John, “I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.”

August 11 Diving in the water

When I am swimming in the ocean I often dive under the water and open my eyes so I can see my surroundings. The problem is though when I open my eyes everything is blurry. Now when I take a diving mask with me and put it on and open my eyes under water everything becomes crystal clear. In a similar way the Bible makes it clear for us to be able to see our standing before God apart from Jesus Christ. The first half of Romans 6:23 reads, “For the wages of sin is death”. That reveals to us our desperate situation speaking of future separation from God. Thankfully the rest of the verse reveals something else we need to see, “but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
