December 14 Eating is Time Sensitive

CTV news put out an article recently addressing the results from a study put out by journal Cell Metabolism. It addresses the area of time sensitivity of when we eat. Apparently eating in the evening makes a difference in our hunger levels, the way we burn calories after we eat, and the way we store fat. These changes help explain why late eating is associated with increased obesity risk. That being the case it is important to realize that eating is time sensitive. Did you know that in the Bible salvation is time sensitive. In the book of 2 Corinthians chapter six it reads, “Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.

December 12 The Highest Cost Imaginable

In an article put out recently CTV news identified three expenses in Canada that are higher than most other countries in the world. The cost of basic wireless internet and cell phone packages are consistently higher, the price of housing considering the price to income ratio is worse than any other developed nation, Canadian also pays among the highest credit card processing fees in the world. Did you know there is a cost identified in the Bible that is higher than anyone can phantom. That is the sin of humanity. The Bible also identifies a means in which this was addressed and can be applied to the lives of individuals. John 3:16 reads, For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

December 9 $87,000 pair of jeans

CTV news reported recently how a pair of Levi jeans from the 1880’s sold at an auction in a small town in New Mexico for more than $87,000 US dollars. Imagine owning a pair of jeans worth more than $87,000. I don’t know why anyone would want to own such an expensive pair of jeans but to some it would be a real treasure. In the Bible Jesus shares a story of a man who found a treasure in a field and then went and sold all that he had to buy the field so he could have the treasure. The treasure pictured is the kingdom of heaven and is of infinite worth but we can actually possess it. Jesus also shared the way into the kingdom. His words from the book of John reads, “I am the way and the truth and the life, no one comes to the father but by me.”

December 7 Saved from Sharks!

The Insider reported recently how three fishermen had to fend off swarming sharks after their boat sank in the Gulf of Mexico. Rescuers came after one man whose phone was almost dead, sent a text to the Coast Guard with their location. The Coast Guard rescued the fishermen and treated them for shark bites and hypothermia. All of the men were successfully rescued. Did you know there is a rescue shared about in the Bible that is successful for all who receive the help provided? John 3:16 reads, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”

December 5 Five hours of sleep or more

BBB news put out an article recently entitled, “Five hours’ sleep is tipping point for bad health.” There was a study by PLoS medicine that tracked the sleep of civil servants in the United Kingdom. According to the study those over 50 years of age have a better chance of avoiding chronic health problems by ensuring they have more than five hours of rest each night. Did you know the Bible has something very essential to say about rest? It is shared by Jesus but He is not referring to physical rest but spiritual. He says, “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” Have you experienced the benefit of that type of rest?

December 02 Earthquakes are More Likely in New Zealand

#1 news reported last month that in New Zealand the likelihood of strong-shaking earthquakes is going to increase. The National Seismic Hazard Model (NSHM) has forecast a 50% increase on average in the chances of the ground shaking strongly across the country. The increased likelihood is going to change the building design for new builds. Did you know, in the Bible, it shares about a likelihood that currently has a 100 percent chance for everyone and that is the reality of death. It reads in Hebrews 9:27, “And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment.” Thankfully God has made a way possible through the work of Jesus Christ for us to be prepared

November 30 Thankfulness Acting Like a Windshield Wiper

November 30 Thankfulness Acting Like a Windshield Wiper
We are into a season when you do not know just what you will encounter when you are driving. It could be snow or it could be rain but fortunately vehicles are equipped with windshield wipers that allow a person to be able to see the road with greater clarity. Did you know there is a means in which a person who has a relationship with God, made possible through faith in the finished work of Jesus Christ, can see the goodness of God with greater clarity? Something that is accessible, that can act like a windshield wiper and clear away that which is blurring one’s vision of God. It is thankfulness. Being thankful to God. In first Thessalonians 5:18 it reads, “in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

November 28 Buying a Superyacht

Last month in Monaco, at the yachting world’s most glamorous event superyachts were on sale with a combined worth of approximately 3.8 billion. Buying a superyacht is an experience limited to the rich and famous or at least rich. In the Bible, Jesus speaks of an experience that is made available that is of infinite worth but he limits this experience not to the rich and famous but the poor. Those who are poor in Spirit. Jesus says in Matthew 5:3 blessed are the poor in spirt, for there is the kingdom of heaven. Poor in Spirit are those who recognize their destitute, spiritual condition. It speaks of someone who recognizes their need of salvation made possible through Jesus Christ and they trust in Him to satisfy that need.

November 25 Bragging

In an article put out by Conscious Rethink entitled, How to Deal with Bragging Friends/Relatives, it is noted that it becomes unhealthy when we use our accomplishments to elevate ourselves at the expense of others. Did you know the Bible gives direction on bragging? In the book of Jeremiah there is clear direction on what is beneficial for a person to actually boast about. It reads, “Thus says the LORD “Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, Let not the mighty man glory in his might, Nor let the rich man glory in his riches; But let him who glories glory in this, That he understands and knows Me, That I am the LORD, exercising lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness in the earth. For in these I delight,” says the LORD.”

November 23 Laser Like Focus

November 27th is the birthday of the late Martial Arts legend Bruce Lee. He would have been 82 this year. He was quoted as saying, “the successful warrior is the average man with laser-like focus.” I trust you have recognized the importance of the right focus in your own life. Jesus shares in John 14:15, if you love me you will keep my commandments. A problem that some people have faced is they have not focused on the most important aspect of this verse. The problem is obedience is not to be the focus but love which will produce obedience. Jesus was asked one day, what is the greatest commandment given in the Law? He responded by saying, You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.
