Glasses You Can Wear and Read – September 14

Recently CTV news shared of an amazing invention by a British startup called XRAI glass. This British startup is behind the technology that could allow millions who are deaf or hard of hearing to see in-person conversations they cannot hear. The way this works is a person puts on a pair of glass fitted with this technology and the information gets transmitted and displayed on the glasses through an app on a person’s phone. Imagine the information a person whom could not hear could gain from such technology. Did you know the Bible speaks of information that a person should gain and benefit from? Proverbs 2:6 reads, “For the LORD gives wisdom; From His mouth come knowledge and understanding.” Like looking at the writing in the glasses, unless you look at what God has said in the Bible you miss out on the wisdom that is readily available.

Hurricane Season – September 12

With it being September, we are in the peak time for hurricane season. Unfortunately, many people around the world will be affected. Something that helps limit the effects of a hurricane is for people to act wisely. According to the Red Cross, one of the most important things anyone can do when in a hurricane is to ensure they have appropriate shelter. With the proper shelter, while the storm may be raging, a person remains save inside. In the Bible, there is instruction for a person to seek shelter in relation to the storms of life. It speaks of a shelter that is readily available through experiencing a personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ. In Psalms 46:1 it reads, “God is our refuge and strength, A very present help in trouble.

Increasing Your Likelihood of Living Longer – September 9

Do you want to help your odds of living longer? CTV news shared of a study recently that can help you know to do so. It shared how a new study published by the American Heart Association suggests that adults that regularly engage in moderate or vigorous exercise for 150 to 600 minutes a week have a significantly reduced rick of mortality. This study does not provide any guarantees but it does tell you how you can increase your odds of living longer. Did you know the Bible shares of a guarantee in which a person can experience eternal life? In the Bible in the book of 1st John it speaks of such a guarantee, “These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life.”

Man Chocked by Pet Snake – September 7

CTV news reported recently how police arrived at a Pennsylvania home to find a 28 year old man unconscious with his 15 foot pet snake wrapped around his neck. The police shot the snake and it released its hold and slithered away and died. The 28 year old man was taken to the hospital to recover for his injuries. Needless to say, the owner of the snake got more than her bargained for from having a pet snake. In our lives, sin is like that, it gives us more than we bargained for. The bible tells us the severity of what it does to us in Romans 6:23 which reads, “For the wages of sin is death”. Thankfully that same verse also tells us how we can have it dealt with which reads, “but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

The Fear of Finding a Boat Empty – September 5

Recently the U.S. Coast Guard responded to a call to Stellwagen Bank off the coast of Massachusetts. The call was regarding a boat that was empty and just drifting at sea. The coast guard were searching for anyone whom may have fallen out of the boat and was swimming to stay alive. It is a terrifying thing to find a boat adrift and empty. Immediately a person knows that is not the way things are supposed to be. Did you know the Bible addresses an aspect of being empty that has to do with humanity and its cause is ultimately sin? It also addresses a means to fill this emptiness. The means to do so is to recognize sin and turn from it and fill ones life with something that is beyond value that is accessible. Ephesians 3:19 reads, “to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.”

Lots of Eyes on the Street September 02

Are you a dog lover? If not, what I am about to share may help, if so, what I am about to tell you may take you over the top: CTV news shared in an article recently how a US study has found that neighbourhoods with more dogs see lower rates of homicide, robbery, and aggravated assaults. Nicolo Pinchak, lead author of the study said “people walking their dogs are essentially patrolling their neighbourhoods. They see when things are not right and when there are suspect outsiders in the area. It can be a crime deterrent.” Essentially what it comes down to is a neighbourhood with more dogs means more eyes on the street. Did you know the Bible shares a real deterrent for sin that has to do with the eyes of God? Proverbs chapter 15 verse three reads, “The eyes of the LORD are in every place, Keeping watch on the evil and the good. Pastor Gary Harris – Georgetown Baptist Church

Infected by Lyme Disease August 31

Recently a new study suggested that 14.5 percent of the global population has Lyme disease or has been infected by Lyme disease. This is what data from 2001 to 2021 found. The three highest reported regions were Central Europe, Eastern Asia, and Western Europe. The study suggested the rate of infection is on the increase. Did you know there is a spiritual infection that has a one hundred percent infection rate? In the Bible in the book of Romans it reads, “Therefore, just as through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men, because all sinned”. Thankfully, the Bible tells of a cure made possible through Jesus Christ. It reads in the book of Ephesians, For by grace you have been save through faith, it is a gift of God, not of works lest anyone should boast.

In Just the Nick of Time August 29

Last month, a gentleman in Ontario was pulled from a car by 5 men just before it was overtaken in flames. CTV news noted one of the rescuers sharing regarding a hammer that was given to him by a truck passing by. “And so I grabbed the hammer and smashed that window and we were able to get it open and just thankful that the timing worked out the way it did, it was literally the nick of time.” Did you know there is a potential rescue made note of in the Bible that applies to you? It is addressed in John 3:16 which reads, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. This rescue certainly has an urgency in which to respond. 2 Corinthians 6:2 reads, “Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.”

The Pictures Are In August 26

CTV news noted how the world’s biggest and most powerful telescope rocketed away last December from French Guiana in South America. It reached its lookout point one million miles from earth in January. Then began the lengthy process of setting up the telescope so it could take pictures and send them back to earth. Well, just recently the pictures from this 10 billion dollar telescope arrived. In regard to the pictures astrophysicist Garth Illingworth said, “This is absolutely spectacular, absolutely amazing,” he added. “This is everything we’ve dreamed of in a telescope like this.” In the Bible, in the book of Psalms the writer also looks up at what God has made and says this: “When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, The moon and the stars, which You have ordained, what is man that You are mindful of him…

Fentanyl Shipment Seized August 24

Recently Newsweek reported that the largest fentanyl shipment ever on a U.S. highway was seized on Interstate 70. A state trooper was conducting a traffic stop when the trooper discovered 114 pounds of fentanyl hidden inside the vehicle. Fentanyl is an opioid drug that is 50 times stronger than heroin. It is deadly! Did you know the Bible tells us that we have all been injected with something that is deadly that has to be addressed? Romans 3:23 reads, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God and later on it reads, “for the wages of sin is death.” Death meaning eventual separation from God. Thankfully this same verse that tells us what the wages of sin causes also tells us that, “but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
