Help to Quit Smoking August 11, 2017

“When you’re ready to quit, we’re ready to help.” Those words, meant to encourage people to quit smoking, were seen on a vehicle recently. Research has shown that withdrawal symptoms decrease more sharply for those who quit smoking cold turkey, than those who try to cut back gradually. Similarly, many attempt to gradually become Christians. But becoming a Christian is instantaneous, because the moment we sincerely admit our fallen nature and spiritual need, asking Christ’s forgiveness, He responds immediately. He doesn’t need time to think about it. He has already made provision for this, by sending Jesus to the cross. John was inspired to write in the New testament, “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”

Saved By a Shadow August 9, 2017

A swimming instructor was spared serious injury or death when he saw a shadow. He said, “One night I could not sleep, so I decided to have a swim, hoping this would relax me. I didn’t put the lights on in the gym, for I knew every inch of the place. The moon was shining brightly and I could see my body clearly outlined on the opposite wall.” As he raised his arms for the dive, his shadow made a perfect silhouette of a cross. He was not a Christian, but thought of the words of an old hymn, ‘He died that I might be forgiven…’ For some reason, he did not dive. Walking into the pool, he was shocked to find it empty. Unknown to him, the caretaker had drained it. A dive would have probably killed him. Later he said, “I knelt in gratitude and asked the Christ of the cross to save my soul.” The Bible says, “…Christ died for us.”

Creation: One Big Accident? August 7, 2017

There is no God. All creation is one gigantic accident. But why do salmon swim upstream to spawn and die? How do European eels know they should go to Bermuda to breed? Why do the earth and other planets stay in orbit? How come the human pancreas maintains just the right level of sugar in the blood to supply energy? All a series of accidents. Right? But if so, somebody who believes that theory needs to clearly explain these amazing happenings. Or what about the possibility that the God of the Bible is the intelligent Designer of all things, and the universe did not create itself? Then, I dare you to examine the amazing evidences for the truthfulness of the Bible, including the mind-boggling fulfillment of prophecy, and the testimony of millions of Bible believers whose lives have been transformed.

Rejection August 4, 2017

A Nova Scotia man thought he was in a good marriage, so he was shocked when his wife of twenty-five years informed him that she was leaving him and no longer wanted to be in his life. He was devastated. A well-educated and talented PEI schoolteacher was unceremoniously released from her teaching position. In spite of all efforts, no credible reason was ever given for her dismissal. It has had a traumatic impact on the young woman. Few actions are more crushing than rejection. How do we cope when it slams into our lives? When responding, it is important to admit to ourselves that we are hurt. Healing can’t really begin until we admit a problem exists. To anyone who is hurting today, Peter, the Apostle advises us to be “…casting all your care upon Him (Jesus) for He cares for you.” He is there for the broken hearted.

Judged by Appearance August 2, 2017

A University of Manitoba study has found that Justice is sometimes blinded by the looks of the accused, rather than the facts. The study found that attorneys and judges in court cases could be swayed in favour of the attractive. Thankfully, how we look, what we wear, our gifts to charities, or our Bank account balance do not influence God. That’s because the Bible tells us, “…man looks on the outward appearance, but God looks on the heart.” And He sees that we are what He calls “desperately wicked.” The good news is that no matter what we look like, or how we dress, God loves all people the same. We are told that “God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son…” And this love, forgiveness, cleansing and preparation for heaven are available to all who humbly and sincerely ask for it.

Violinist Joshua Bell July 31, 2017

Joshua Bell is one of the most famous and celebrated violinists in the world today. In 2007, without publicity, he performed a famous concert for forty-three minutes, at a busy subway station in Washington D.C. 1,097 people passed by. None recognized him. Later, it was asked, “If we do not have a moment to stop and listen to one of the best musicians in the world playing the best music ever written, how many other things are we missing? So, we ask, how many fail to recognize Jesus, the Saviour of the world. John wrote of Jesus’ entrance to the world with the words, “He came unto His own, but His own received Him not. Yet to all who did receive him, …he gave the right to become children of God.” How sad to miss out on recognizing Jesus- the greatest Person Who ever lived.

Robert Louis Stevenson July 28, 2017

Robert Louis Stevenson, famous for Treasure Island, Kidnapped, and Dr. Jekyl and Mr. Hyde, in failing health sought a favorable climate. He chose Samoa, in the South Pacific. Finding that the native chiefs were constantly at war with one another, he gradually resolved their conflicts and taught them to be at peace. In gratitude, the Samoans built a highway in his name, which they called, “The Road of the Loving Heart.” A plaque explains that the highway was built to please Stevenson “because he had brought them joy and peace.”Jesus too brought peace to troubled hearts everywhere, but it is eternal peace. Paul the Apostle wrote that Jesus “made peace by the blood of His Cross.” Our Lord makes a promise to all of us who recognize our spiritual need and receive Him as Saviour, “my peace I give to you.”

Fearfully and Wonderfully Made! July 26, 2017

“The brain is the last and grandest biological frontier, the most complex thing we have yet discovered in our universe.” Those are the words of American scientist Dewey Watson, best known as one of the four discoverers of the structure of the DNA molecule. This amazing organ controls everything we do. It enables us to think, learn, create, breathe, and function. And as only God can make a tree, only God can make a brain. No wonder the Psalmist praised God saying, we are “… fearfully and wonderfully made.” Paul wrote, that “we are bought with a price.” That price was paid at Calvary when “Christ died for us.” So, God has a double claim on every one of us. He madeus, and He redeemed us. Have you considered these claims on your life? Please think seriously about this today.

Vitamins July 24, 2017

We are into the summer of 2017, so many, have stopped taking vitamin D for a while. Known as the “sunshine vitamin” it is recommended during winter months when we spend less time in the sun. Other dietary supplements taken, include vitamins C, B and many more. Despite the sometimes-exaggerated alleged value of these supplements, some are helpful. And while it is important to take care of our physical health, it is much more important to look inside, and examine our spiritual condition. We are all spiritually bankrupt and must one day give account to our Maker. Amos, the Old testament prophet urged, “prepare to meet your God.” We do that by having a personal relationship with Christ.

How to live Forever July 21, 2017

Doctors at the American Health Foundation believe that disease is spread by man’s illusion, because of man’s unflagging belief that serious heath problems happen only to someone else. One scientist, referring to the mistaken idea of living forever in these bodies here on earth wrote, “We all suffer from the illusion of immortality.”. You and I have a rendezvous with our Maker. That is an appointment we will all keep. But that need not frighten us, because Jesus promised, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me, even though he were dead, yet shall he live; and whoever lives and believes in me shall never die.” None of us has earthly immortality, but when we have Christ in our lives, we will live forever, with Him in heaven. In other words, the key to eternal life is a personal relationship with Jesus.
