November 14 Night owls at high risk of certain chronic diseases study says

Are you a night owl? Do you prefer to go to bed later than most? A new study published in the journal of experimental physiology has found that being a consistent night owl places an individual at a higher risk of type 2 diabetes and heart disease. Night owls had lower aerobic fitness levels and burned less fat at rest then early birds in the study. It appears having rest at the proper time is beneficial physically. Did you know the Bible has something very essential to say about rest? It is shared by Jesus but He is not referring to physical rest but spiritual. He says, “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” Have you experienced that type of rest?

November 11 Small Talk

Do you recognize small talk with a stranger to be advantageous? CTV news reported recently about a U.K. study that suggests short interactions with strangers can be very beneficial. According to the study personality traits in a stranger can be revealed within four minutes. Did you know there is a passage in the Bible that speaks of the knowledge of God regarding individuals? It is in the book of Psalms it reads, “O LORD, You have searched me and known me. You know my sitting down and my rising up; You understand my thoughts afar off. You comprehend my path and my lying down and are acquainted with all my ways. The reality is no one knows you better than God.

November 9 Being Self-Sufficient

With over half a million homes and business’s losing power from hurricane Fiona last month the demand for generators skyrocketed. People want to become more self-sufficient when the power is out. Some people think being self-sufficient, in relation to God, is a good thing. It is the idea of striving to be a good person, or at least better than other people, and the thought is by striving to be good that will make a person right with God. The bible tells us for someone who is in relationship with God, being self-sufficient was not the way they got there. Ephesians 2:8-9 reads, “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, 9 not of works, lest anyone should boast.”

November 7 Hot Dog Taking Time Off Your Life

The University of Michigan published a study that suggested that eating one hot dog can take 36 minutes off your life. The study looked at more than 5,800 foods common in the U.S. diet and the amount of healthy life gained or lost after eating them. I don’t know what the Canadian hot dog equivalent would be but I am hopeful it would not be the same. The fact is though, life is short and we would be wise not simply to watch what we eat but ensure while we are here to get to know the one whom the Bible describes as the giver of life, breath, and all things. The time we have to do this is relatively short and it is not something to put off. We are told in James “For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away.”

November 4 We’ve got power!

Over 500,000 homes and businesses were without power across the Maritimes from hurricane Fiona. On Prince Edward Island Maritime Electric reported having over 200 crews from all over Canada working on that province alone at one time. It was extremely encouraging knowing so many crews were working so hard to restore power for PEI residents. Over the coming days after the storm there were a number of shouts and screams and posts on Facebook sharing the phrase, “we’ve got power!” Did you know the Bible talks about a power that is extremely exciting to all to whom have experienced it? In the book of Romans it reads, “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes”

November 2 Storms of Life

Last month hurricane Fiona brought devastating damage to a number of eastern Canada’s coastal communities with its torrential rain and wind gusts up to 160 kilometers per hour. There was a lot of focused preparation for the storm, but its severity and level of destruction were much more severe than a lot of people anticipated. Did you know the Bible informs us that there will be storms in our personal lives? The reality is these storms will occur in our lives but the Bible has instruction in regard to the proper focus during those storms. It is not to be on the storms but on God. In the book of Isaiah, chapter 26 verse 3 it reads, “You will keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you because he trusts in you.

Almost Half of Cancer Deaths are Preventable October 31

An article was published recently that shared an alarming percentage of cancer deaths that were preventable. A study published in The Lancet shared that 44.4 percent of all cancer deaths and 42 percent of healthy years lost could be attributable to preventable risk factors. The three leading risks according to this global study includes smoking, drinking too much alcohol or having a high body mass index. Did you know the Bible shares about the greatest risk factor for death, meaning separation from God, and it falls under one category? It is sin. Romans 6:23 reads, “For the wages of sin is death,”. Thankfully the rest of that same verse shares about the way this can be avoided, “but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Google sent an engineer almost $250,000 by mistake October 28

CNN reported recently how Google sent an individual almost $250,000 by mistake. The individual did not even work for the company and was baffled with the payment that went to his account. Google reported to CNN that it was a payment due to human error. Did you know the Bible teaches of a possible payment to your account that is available through faith in Christ that is not a mistake? Second Corinthians 5:21 reads, “For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.” When a person experiences the salvation that Jesus made possible a person receives, before God, the righteousness of Jesus into their account.

$8,000 Rental Car Bill October 26

CTV news reported how last month a woman was wrongly charged $8,000 for a three-day car rental. The company claimed she drove nearly the circumference of the earth in three days. It was definitely a false charge that had to be rectified. Did you know the Bible makes a charge that has to be rectified but it is not a false charge? In the book of Romans it reads, for all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. It also reads for the wages of sin is death. Death meaning eventual separation from God. Thankfully the rest of that same verse also reads, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. The way to rectify the charge is to receive the gift that God has provided to effectively remove the charge from your record.

In relation to your work the article notes how curiosity in your workplace increases enjoyment and engagement of your job and reduces your risk of burnout. The articles also noted how scientists have been looking for ways to cultivate more curiosity in our lives. Did you know tthe Bible directs you to stir up your curiosity when it comes to God?
