Last month CNN reported of a rescue on board a Spirit airline flight. There was an infant on the flight that had stopped breathing whose lips had turned blue. There was an announcement that went over the loud speaker inquiring about the possibility of a doctor being on board. Thankfully there was a retired nurse that stepped forward and performed a sternal rub and was able to revive the three month old infant. It was a successful rescue! Did you know there is a rescue shared about in the Bible that is successful for all who receive the help provided? John 3:16 reads, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”

This past summer there was anticipation of a beautiful but putrid smelling flower going into full bloom at Vancouver’s Bloedel Conservatory. The beautiful titan arum plant has been described as smelling like “rotten flesh, with notes of old fish and decayed cabbage”. It is hard to believe something so beautiful could produce something so putrid. In Jesus day He makes a comparison of something that appears to be beautiful but has a disgusting element to it. What Jesus describes is self-righteousness. In describing the self-righteous religious rulers of His day, He describes them as, “whitewashed tombs which indeed appear beautiful outwardly, but inside are full of dead men’s bones and all uncleanness.” Not a picture you would want to emulate!

Recently an immediate evacuation notice from the Emergency Alert System interrupted regular TV programming in the Los Angeles area telling the entirety of the L.A. County to evacuate due to a fire. This obviously created a great deal of panic but it was sent in error over a dozen times before the mistake was identified. Did you know there is a warning presented in the Bible that has been read literally millions of times but in this case, there is no mistake? In the book of Romans it reads, “for the wages of sin is death”. Death meaning future separation from God. That is the warning but thankfully that same verse presents a sure way of escape, “but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

With the 2023 model cars and trucks soon to be available there will be all kinds of bells and whistles accessible to the new owners. I wonder how many people will purchase certain perks and drive their cars or trucks and not even take advantage of what has been made available to them. Something else I would be interested to know has to do with a statement made by Jesus Christ in John 10:10 which reads: “I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.” How many people have entered into a personal relationship with God through Christ and have not taken full advantage of all that Jesus has made available by properly investing into growing in that relationship?

Recently TD bank presented a report that suggested the average price of a home in Canada will fall from its peak seen earlier this year. The price drop is expected to continue well into the fall and into the winter. In the report a TD economist wrote, “The report’s projected price drop represents an unprecedented decline at least going as far back as the late 1980s. Housing prices with so many things in life there is change. Did you know with God this is not the case? He does not change. James 1:17 reads, Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.

In Canada Thanksgiving is the second Monday in October. In the United States it is the fourth Thursday in November. Regardless of whether you live in Canada or in the US it is focused around food and being thankful. Did you know that in the Bible, that for those who have trusted in Jesus Christ for salvation, the season of Thanksgiving gets extended beyond October or November. In the book of Thessalonians it reads, “in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” That which an individual is to be thankful for is not necessarily what has happened because sometimes negative things happen such as a loss of a job or health decline. What an individual is to be thankful for is that God desires to do a work in their lives through what has happened.

Recently, according to an aviation news site, two pilots feel asleep while flying a Boeing 737. It happened on an Ethiopian Airline failed to descend on its destination. Air traffic control were apparently unable to reach the crew although they made a number of attempts. The pilots were asleep! Did you know in the Bible there is a call sent out to all whom know Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour but are not living as they should and it has to do with waking up. Romans 13:11 reads, “And do this, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep; for now our salvation is nearer than when we first believed.

This month there is an auction planned for a hoard of gold coins found in a house that was renovated in Northern England. According to a press release sent to CNN it is one of the biggest hoards of gold coins ever uncovered in Britain. It is estimated to sell for close to three hundred thousand US dollars. Imagine discovering such a treasure. In the Bible Jesus shares a story of a man who found a treasure in a field and then went and sold all that he had to buy the field so he could have the treasure. The treasure pictured is the kingdom of heaven and is of infinite worth but we can actually possess it. Jesus also shared the way into the kingdom. He said in John 14:6 I am the way and the truth and the life, no one comes to the father but by me.

Recently it was reported by a number of news agencies what the late Queen Elizabeth ate every day since she was a toddler. The information was given by her former chef of 11 years. Apparently, Queen Elizabeth ate bread and jam every day. It may not have been the secret to her vitality but it is interesting. Did you know the Bible shares the importance of bread when it comes not simply to health but to eternal life? In John 6:35 it reads, “And Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst.” What Jesus is saying is that He is essential for real life not only for the here and now but for eternity.

In an article entitled The Importance of Good Parent-Child Communication, it notes how the communication process with your children is effective when you take it to three levels: listening; creating an environment of trust; spending more time with your child.
