Getting the Right Rest August 12

An article was put out recently by CNN noting how scientists have determined the ideal amount of sleep in middle and old age. Apparently, it has been determined that the optimum amount of sleep is not too little but not too much. Both insufficient and excessive sleep has been associated with a reduced ability to pay attention, remember and learn new things, as well as solve problems and make decisions. According to the scientists who performed the study, the ideal number of hours for most people to sleep each night is seven hours. Seven hours is considered not too much sleep nor is it too little. Did you know Jesus shared about the ideal form of rest that is available but it does not have to do with sleep? In the book of Matthew it reads, “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”

Coffee Does More than You Think August 10

According to a study shared in an article by CNN recently, drinking coffee may hold more power than waking you up in the morning. According to a new study published in the Annals of Internal Medicine drinking either sweetened or unsweetened coffee is associated with a lowered death risk compared to not drinking the beverage. The study that was conducted showed that those who drank a moderate amount of coffee defined as 1.5 – 3 cups a day had about a 30 percent lowered death risk compared to non-coffee drinkers. Did you know the Bible also has information that has to do with a means of not simply living longer but living eternally with God in heaven? John 3:16 reads, For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

Most Satisfying Province August 8

Do you know where the most satisfying province to live in Canada is? According to a survey from Stat Can put out recently Newfoundland and Labrador topped Canada’s provinces as having the highest life satisfaction in the country. This is followed by Prince Edward Island (59.7 per cent), Quebec (58.7), New Brunswick (56.8) Manitoba (56.1), Alberta (52.2) and Saskatchewan (51.2).
Did you know that in the Bible it is made known that anyone whom knows Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior has a level of satisfaction waiting for them that is literally mind boggling. In the book of 1 Corinthians it reads, “Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, Nor have entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love Him.”

Drive By Saving August 5

We often hear in the news of the tragic results of a drive-by shooting but last month there was some great news generated by a drive-by saving. A Lafayette, Indiana man was driving by a burning house recently and he pulled over to check to see if anyone was inside. He ended up pulling four children from the burning home. The children ranged in age from 1 to 18. In order to get the last child out he had to break a widow from the second floor and jump to the ground. All of the children were successfully rescued. Did you know there is a rescue shared about in the Bible that is successful for all who receive the help provided? John 3:16 reads, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”

Outside the Box August 3

With it being such a challenge this summer to find workers chef Michael Smith of Souris, PEI did something completely out of the ordinary and put out a post on social media promising to fly any successful candidate within Canada to work at his resort and restaurant. CTV news noted how Michael Smith shared how he got more resumes in one hour from the post then he had gotten in one year without it. Did you know the Bible shares about a unique work of God in which he did something completely out of the ordinary to accomplish a very special work? In the book of John, the Bible shares how God, identified as the Word came into the world in a special way. It reads, “And the Word became flesh and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.

Your Sin Will Find You Out August 1

CTV news reported how last month there was a West Virginia woman who woke up from a two-year coma and identified her brother as the cause. Police were suspicious of the brother being the attacker but did not have enough evidence to convict him. After coming out of coma this particular woman met with police in the hospital and she was able to give enough information that they were able to charge her brother with the crime they suspected he had committed. Meanwhile, it is safe to say the brother did not think what he did would ever be found out. Did you know that in the Bible Jesus shares about a time that all the things that people had thought were hidden would come to light. In Luke a12:2 it reads, “for there is nothing covered that will not be revealed, nor hidden that will not be made known.

95 Year Old Sky Diver – July 29

Last month, in celebration of her 95th birthday, Audry McCosh from Manitoba went sky diving for the first time. Going skydiving was on her bucket list but at 95 she finally made it happen. She was quoted in an article by CTV news after landing as saying, “That was just absolutely fantastic – a little scary getting out of the plane.” Can you imagine yourself going skydiving at 95? I can’t! Do you know something of a spiritual nature that a number of people have on their bucket list? It is trusting in Jesus Christ as ones Savior and living one’s life dedicated to Him. It is something many people intend to do some day. The Bible provides direction on the correct time line to do so and it is not at some point in the future. 2 Corinthians 6:2 reads, Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.

Successful Search Effort – July 27

Recently a missing three-year old was found in good spirits after being alone for two days in Northwestern Montana. He disappeared on a Friday afternoon while playing with his family dog in the Bull Lake area of the Kootenia National Forest. Over the next two days an extensive search effort went out by ground searches by many on foot, by some on atvs, boats were searching, as well as a helicopter. You can only imagine how frantically people were searching. Thankfully the boy was found a couple of miles south of Bull Lake. He was hungry, thirsty, and cold but he was safe. Did you know the Bible mentions that God is on a search? Isaiah 66:2 reads, But on this one will I look: On him who is poor and of a contrite spirit, And who trembles at My word.

$825 McDonalds Order – July 25

Last month an Uber Eats driver in Halifax got an order of a lifetime. He received an order to pick up $825 of fast food at McDonalds. At first, he questioned if the order was legitimate but when he looked into it he realized it was an actual order. It turned out to be for guests at a wedding party in which the bride and groom knew their guests were getting hungry and they were hoping to satisfy that hunger with a late-night order from McDonalds. In the Bible, Jesus speaks of having a hunger that can definitely be satisfied. He says in the book of Matthew, “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness for they shall be filled.” The Bible also tells us that the means to experience this righteousness, is through Jesus.

D-Day ration pack – July 22

BBC news reported recently that the Keep Military Museum in Dorchester, Dorset is believed to have the last fully intact D-day ration pack. An x-ray was able to determine the pack to contain “the extremely rare assault rations of the Second World War” stated the museum. These packs were the lightweight solutions to providing a soldier with the 4,000 calories he needed a day. Three chocolate bars, 10 biscuits, blocks of tea, sugar and milk were among the items found in the pack. Did you know that Jesus Christ shared about a ration pack that we all need but it is not in the form of food? Matthew 4:4 reads, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’ ” Have you been using this ration pack?
