Deceitfulness of Sin April 15

It has been confirmed that an imported lavender aromatherapy spray sold at U.S. stores last year killed two Americans and caused debilitating illness in others, according to a study published in the New England Journal of Medicine. The spray in question was tainted with bacteria that can cause melioidosis in humans. It is concerning that something so appealing could be so deadly. The Bible affirms temptation can follow the same pattern. In the book of James it reads, “Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am tempted by God”; for God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He Himself tempt anyone. But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed. Then, when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, brings forth death.

In The Garden April 13

We are entering the time of year when people are thinking a lot about gardening. Considering what they need to do to get ready for the season to come. Did you know that a focal point of the Easter account takes place in a garden? It was in the garden of Gethsemane where Jesus was considering what was to come in relation to the unfathomable hardship He was about to face. Do you know what would have been on the forefront of His mind? It was not that He was soon to be arrested, it was not that his disciples were about to desert Him, or the cross itself, it was the fact that He would become sin for us in order to provide a way that we could get right with God. 2 Corinthians 5:21 reads, “For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.

A Close Call April 11

Last month a woman in Kensington, Prince Edward Island saved her youngest son by fighting thorough flames. Her family was awoken to the fire alarm going off due to there being smoke and flames in the home. She escaped the house with her family and six other relatives and then realized her twelve year old son had been left behind. It took her two different attempts to retrieve her son. Finally, she ran through the flames and found him in the living room and dragged him outside. She knew there was no time to wait in order for her child to be saved. Did you know the Bible shares that there is no time to wait in order to experience the salvation from our sin made possible by Jesus Christ? In the book of 2 Corinthians it reads, “Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.”

Living Longer April 8

According to research published last month in the British Journal of Sports Medicine, doing 30 to 60 minutes of one exercise weekly could help you prevent disease and live longer. The research authors found that compared with people who did not do muscle-strengthening activities, those who did 30 to 60 minutes of resistance, strength or weight training weekly had a 10% to 20% lower risk of early death from all causes, and of getting heart disease, diabetes or cancer at all. Did you know the Bible also has information that has to do with a means of not simply living longer but living eternally with God in heaven? John 3:16 reads, For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

Finding Your Identity April 6

Currently a woman from California is suing Los Angeles and its police department because she says she was wrongfully arrested and jailed for nearly two weeks after being mistaken for another woman in Texas who shares her name. Apparently when trying to board a flight to Mexico she was made aware that there was a warrant for her arrest and detained. It was 13 days before the police determined they were dealing with a case of mistaken identity. Did you know the Bible has a lot to say about one’s identity? It does not teach regarding a mistaken identity but it does share about how a person can receive a new identity. 2 Corinthians 5:17 reads, Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.

Tell Me I Am Alive April 4

Thankfully one of the twelve passengers thought to be missing on the Italian Cruise liner Corfu was found alive, 53 hours after the ferry had burst into flames. Rescuers who boarded the ship found the 21 year old having avoided being overtaken by the intense heat at the stern of the ship. Temperatures on the ferry had exceeded 600 degrees Celsius. According to local media reports the truckers first words when rescued were, “tell me I am alive.” He desperately wanted assurance that he was alive. Did you know there is assurance offered in the Bible to those whom know Jesus Christ as their Savior not simply for this life but for eternal life. In the book of 1 John it reads, “These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life…

Empowered by Holding hands April 1

Last month the president of North Macedonia heard how an eleven year old girl with Down syndrome was being bullied at school. His response to this was he met with the young girl before school and held her hand and walked her to her elementary school. Needless to say that put the bullies in their place. It is amazing how comforted we can feel when holding the hand of another. Did you know there is a passage in the Bible about knowing God and holding His hand? In the book of Psalms it reads, “Nevertheless I am continually with You; You hold me by my right hand. You will guide me with Your counsel, and afterward receive me to glory. Whom have I in heaven but You? And there is none upon earth that I desire besides You. My flesh and my heart fail; But God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.

Pay Attention to Where you are Going March 30

Last month there was a dashcam video from North Carolina released showing a doctors auto-driven Tesla slamming into a parked police vehicle which then strikes a sheriff’s deputy. After the car crash it was determined that the driver was not paying attention to where he was going but while the car was on autopilot he was watching a movie. Did you know in the Bible Jesus warns people to make sure they are pay close attention to where they are going. He provides instruction to direct people to Himself. In the book of Matthew, it is written, “Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.

The right pursuit March 28

If you do a Google search you will find it notes there are 4200 religions in the world today. I have had conversations with different people in the past, talking about God, in which they have shared they do not like religion. I have responded by sharing that I do not like religion as well. I then proceed to tell them I am not interested in pursuing religion. I am interested in pursuing a relationship. A relationship with God. A relationship that was made possible by Jesus going to the cross and paying for the price of our sins. The Bible tells us in John 1:12 But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name. I have encouraged those whom I have talked to in the past, “Don’t pursue religion, pursue a relationship.”

A High Price March 25

Recently there was a couple from Hawaii who received a bill from the Hawaiian Electric Company saying they were the legal owners of a particular street and owed over $18,000 in unpaid invoices. Imagine getting an $18000 electric bill! They frantically contacted various individuals and were able to prove they were not in fact the owners of the contested street and therefore did not have to pay the electric company. Did you know in the Bible it is identified that there is a payment that has to be made for our sin before a Holy God and there is no mistake about this. Thankfully though there has been a payment made that we can access through faith resulting in a changed life. 1st Timothy 2:5 reads, “For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus, 6 who gave Himself a ransom for all.”
