Committed February 28

Last month a story was circulating on Facebook about two dedicated health care workers, Hannah Graham and Jenifer Shea who snowshoed for an hour to get to work at the Prince County Hospital because the plows were off the road due to the severity of the winter snow PEI was facing. That is a great picture of commitment! Did you know there is a passage in the Bible that shares about the dedication and commitment regarding the love of God. In Romans 8 it is written, “38 For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, 39 nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

35 Million Dollar Selfie February 25

Recently, a self portrait by Mexican artist Frida Kahlo, with tears running down her face and a picture of her husband on her forehead sold at an auction house in New York for a record 34.9 million dollars. It is the highest price paid at an auction for a Latin America artwork. Imagine owning a piece of art worth almost 35 million dollars. Did you know that in the Bible we are made aware of a treasure that is valued beyond what we can comprehend and we can in fact possess it? Jesus shared a story of a man who found a treasure in a field and then went and sold all that he had to buy the field so he could have the treasure. The treasure is the kingdom of heaven. Jesus also shared the way into the kingdom. He said in John 14:6 I am the way and the truth and the life, no one comes to the father but by me.

Bob Saget Proposes the Question, “What Happens After You Die?” February 23

There was a great outpouring of condolences for two entertainers who passed away last month. Betty white passed away at age 99 and Bob Saget passed away at age 65 just 9 days after Betty White. Previous to his death, in sharing a tribute to Betty White on Instagram, sharing among other things about the first time he met her, Bob Saget shared his own uncertainties about what happens after you die and noted that he ultimately does not know. Bob Saget proposes an extremely important question? Can a person know what happens after they die? Thankfully this question is addressed in the Bible in the book of 1st John which reads, “These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life.”

Just in Time February 21

Last month a pilot averted death twice in a span of minutes. First, he crash landed his plane onto railroad tracks in Los Angeles and survived and then a train was rushing towards him and police frantically managed to free the man from his plane literally seconds before a the train ran through the plane at full speed. It was a rescue that went right down to the wire. Did you know there is a potential rescue made note of in the bible that applies to you? It is addressed in John 3:16 which reads, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. This rescue certainly has an urgency in which to respond. 2 Corinthians 6:2 reads, “Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.”

Raining Fish February 18

Last month a very unique weather occurrence was reported in Texas. Small fish were seen falling from the sky! What an event to witness! The reason for this unique occurrence was apparently the fish were caught in a water spout and dropped back down to earth as it lost momentum. Did you know the Bible shares about a unique weather event in the book of Isaiah. It reads, “Rain down, you heavens, from above, And let the skies pour down righteousness.” The way to experience this righteousness is not by looking up at the sky but by a person receiving Jesus Christ as ones Saviour. In the book of 1 Corinthians it reads, “For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.”

A Real Life Saver February 16

Police in Oklahoma recently credited a middle schooler for saving a classmate and a woman escaping a house fire on the same day. Eleven year old Davyon Johnson performed the Heimlich maneuver on a classmate choking on a bottle cap and the obstruction was removed and the classmate was fine. Later that day while Davyon was walking by a house fire he aided a woman trying to escape on a walker who also was unharmed. His saving acts made for a great story! Did you know of the greatest story of salvation is found in the Bible? It is shared about in the book of John in chapter 3 verse 16 which reads, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”

Defibrillator Delivered by Drone February 14

Last month a gentleman in Sweden was shoveling snow and took a heart attack but thankfully a physician happened to be driving by and noticed the man fall to the ground. The physician determined the man had no pulse and started CPR. A bystander was told to call emergency and make them aware this man has taken a heart attack. To the physicians surprize, three minutes after the call, a drone was overhead lowering down a defibrillator. The device was used and the man’s heart started beating again and he survived. It is a great story surrounding getting a heart to do what it is supposed to do. The Bible also has a means of directing a person to get the heart to do what it is supposed to do. Jesus shares that, ‘You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.”

Distance Sin is Removed February 11

It has been a couple months since a tornado hit and devastated a number of communities in the US. There has also been a lot of reports of photographs traveling great distances in the wind but the record from a tornado in 1920 still remains. Paper debris traveled 370 km from Missouri Bootheel to southern Illinois. The is a long distance for a piece of paper to travel. Apparently, the paper rides winds, sometimes reaching heights of 30 to 40 thousand feet and then falls when the winds dissipates. Do you know the distance the Bible tells us God removes our sin made possible by person receiving Jesus Christ as ones Saviour? In Psalm 103:12 it reads, “As far as the east is from the west, So far has He removed our transgressions from us. That is as far of a distance as you can get!

Lots of Money in the Wrong Places February 9

It was determined that over 26 million dollars was sent to the wrong bank accounts in the fiscal year of 2020-2021. These wrong deposits were mainly the result of a government department providing the Receiver Generals Office with an incorrect account number. The result was a lot of people finding more money in their account than expected due unfortunately to a mistake. Did you know the Bible teaches of an account transfer that is available through faith in Christ that we will want to make sure we get right? Second Corinthians 5:21 reads, “For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.” Through faith in Jesus a person receives, before God, the righteousness of Jesus upon their lives.

A Unique Birth February 7

Last month a Saskatchewan family welcomed their third set of consecutive set of naturally conceived twins. Petrina McArthur, who is now a mom of eight said she was shocked when she learned she was having her first set of twins just over four years ago. She has given birth to six children in four years. That is a medical anomaly. Did you know the bible speaks of a spiritual anomaly? It speaks of a special birth that a person has to have in order to enter into a right relationship with God. In the book of John, Jesus is speaking with a religious leader of his day called Nicodemus and he shares something with Nicodemus that we need to be aware of. Jesus said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”
