Walk by Faith January 26

Last month a kilt-wearing Scotsman and his dog completed an 8000 km walk across Canada. Michael Yellowlees and his Alaskan husky dog Luna started in Tofino B.C. in April and finished in Newfoundland in December. They raised more than 60,000 for the Trees for Life charity. He definitely got some attention walking in Newfoundland in December wearing a kilt. Did you know the Bible talks about a way to walk that should get your attention? In 2 Corinthians 5:7 it reads, “For we walk by faith, not by sight.” This speaks of living a life in which a person’s trust is in God and His direction. The way to start this walk is addressed in Ephesians 2:8-9, “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, 9 not of works, lest anyone should boast.

Money Transfer Gone Bad January 24

Last month, after a two month battle a gentleman from Ontario finally resolved an issue he faced by mistakenly transferring 19,000 into a strangers account rather than his own. He was transferring money into his account for a down payment on a house. In doing the transfer he entered the correct account number but the wrong transit number. Thankfully the bank finally returned the funds into the correct account. Did you know the Bible teaches of an account transfer that is available through faith in Christ that we will want to get right? Second Corinthians 5:21 reads, “For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.” Through faith in Jesus a person receives, before God, the righteousness of Jesus upon their lives.

Wrong Way to Deal with a Snake Infestation January 21

Recently a gentleman in Maryland burnt his house to the ground, which was valued at more than a million dollars, in an attempt to get rid of snakes. The snakes were in the basement of his house and he lit some coals to try and smoke them out but in the process a fire started and the home eventually burnt to the ground. He was addressing something that needed to be addressed but he definitely went about it the wrong way. Did you know that in the Bible there is something identified that we absolutely need to address? Romans 6:23 reads that the wages of sin is death. Death speaking of spiritual separation from God in this life and being separated from God after we die but the rest of the verse tells us how this can be properly dealt with. It reads, “but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Delivering a baby while driving January 19

A very unique birth happened in Cincinnati, Ohio recently. The father caught his newborn baby girl with one hand while his wife gave birth as they were driving to the hospital. The mother felt she had to push and she did, while they were still driving, and the baby was born. Did you know the Bible teaches of a spiritual birth that we all have to have in order to experience heaven? Jesus said in John 3:3 that, “most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” We are also told of a gift we receive in relation to this new birth. This new birth which is made possible by trusting in Jesus Christ as ones Savior. In Romans 6:23 it reads, “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Top 2 Scams January 17

According to Canadian Anti-Fraud Center, Canadians lost more than 163 million to various scams in 2021. The two types of scams that ended up costing Canadians the most were focused around investment and romance. What made these scammers successful is they promised to provide a lot for very little. Did you know some people view salvation, as pictured in the bible, as providing a lot for very little? Experiencing a more abundant life now and the assurance of heaven in the future all at very little cost. The reality is this could not be further from the truth. Salvation is a gift, there is no way to buy it, but it came at a great cost to the giver. 2 Corinthians 5:21 reads, “For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.”

111 years overdue January 14

Recently a book was returned to a library in Idaho that made the headlines. What was so unique about this book was that it was actually 111 years overdue. The library tallied up the late fees of two cents per day which added up to $803 but needless to say the individual who returned the book was obviously not the person who checked it out and was not charged. Did you know the Bible tells us that while we are alive we are not yet overdue but our opportunity to get right with God will pass? In 2 Corinthians 6:2 it reads, “Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.” We are also told the means of experiencing this salvation in John 3:16, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

Volleyball sold for $308,000 January 12

Recently the volleyball known by the name “Wilson” that was used as a prop on the film Castaway starring Tom Hanks sold at an auction for a staggering $308,000. In the film Wilson was essentially garbage on a deserted island that became the main characters best friend. Did you know in the Bible there is garbage that we are not to have any sort of connection with but so many do? It is in relation to self-righteousness and it is found in the book of Isaiah 64:6 in which it is written, “But we are all like an unclean thing, And all our righteousnesses are like filthy rags;. Thankfully, in the book of John, Jesus identifies where true righteous can be found by saying, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.

Don’t Null and Void the Offer January 10

I purchased a plug for my daughters’ keyboard recently from amazon which did not work properly. It would randomly cause the keyboard to shut off. Right away I knew I had to return it but kept putting it off. Finally, one morning while at my computer I went on my amazon account to make the return and realized I missed out on the opportunity to return my purchase by eight hours. Did you know the Bible has blessings to be unlocked but in certain cases there is a limited time to do so? It is our lifetime that is limited. The key is we have to do what it says to unlock the blessings. In the book of James it reads, “But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does.”

Stray Cat January 7

When my sister and myself were in grade school there was a stray cat that we found on our porch in the morning. When we finished our day at school and came home the cat was still on our porch. We pleaded with our parents to let us keep the cat that so desperately wanted to come in to our home and they eventually gave in. Did you know that in the Bible anger is presented as a means to bring something into your life that so desires to be a part of it. In the book of Ephesians, “Be angry, and do not sin”: do not let the sun go down on your wrath, 27 nor give place to the devil.” You need to be careful because being angry and not dealing with it can invite something into your life that can reveal itself in resentment, self-righteousness, bitterness, misery and vengeance. Anger can invite in a pet that trust me you do not want.

Be On Guard January 5

A number of years ago, while we were shopping, my wife had her purse stolen. It was not ripped off here arm but rather a person bumped into her, managed to take my wife’s purse without her realizing, and then left. It was stolen and she did not even know it happened. I don’t know if you realize it or not but our contentment can be like that. We can be content with what we have or what we have accomplished and then we see someone who has more or has accomplished more and our contentment is stolen except in this case someone else did not take it rather we allowed it to be taken. In the Bible in the book of Philippians chapter 4 verse 11 the writer shares, “for I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content. He also shares in verse 13 how he experienced this ability, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.
