In a revealing article, the Wikipedia internet research source cites all the treaties and agreements formalized between nations and groups from 1283 B.C. through 2009. The writers call into question the usefulness of human agreement when most of them have been broken. No surprise. We are fallen creatures, spiritually dead. We are lost. The Bible, describing our moral and spiritual condition says, “The heart is deceitful above all things and desperately wicked.” This diagnosis gives little room for optimism or for trusting our fellow human beings. But while many people cannot be trusted, God can. He always keeps His word. And the most important area of trust is regarding His promise of eternal life.
