Preparing for the Unexpected September 28, 2018

“I was terrified. I thought it was a plane crash or an explosion…” Those were the words of Michael Garnett, after being blasted out of bed in his apartment in Chelyabinsk, Russia. The area was struck by a ten-ton meteor which was moving 54,000 kilometres an hour as it entered the atmosphere and disintegrated about 50 kilometres above the earth. This experience of Garnett, a Canadian, playing hockey in Russia, reminds us of the uncertainty of life. A New Testament writer was inspired to write, “…do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring forth…” True, there are unexpected incidents which can blast us into the next life. Amos, an Old Testament prophet warned, “Prepare to meet your God.” And Paul, the Apostle explained how to be ready for that inevitable meeting, writing “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved.”
