Living for time, not Eternity January 8, 2020

When Bertha Adams, 71, died alone in West Palm Beach Florida, the Coroner’s report read “Cause of death…malnutrition.” She weighed just 50 pounds. But she left behind over a million dollars in two Banks. Her sad story brings to mind a Bible truth that “the love of money is the root of all evil.” And though we do not know what her spiritual condition was when she passed away, the rhetorical question of Jesus comes to mind, when He asked, “What shall it profit a man if he shall gain the whole world, but lose his own soul?” Bertha Adams’ life and death encourage us not to live for this world alone, but with eternity’s values in view. The Christian can happily sing, “This world is not my home, I’m just a- passing through. My treasures are laid up, somewhere beyond the blue.”
