I have noticed more and more people are striving to be self-sufficient. Seeking to grow their own food, generate their own energy, and work at a home office or farm for their livelihood. Being self-sufficient can be a very good thing, but not always. Some people think being self-sufficient, in relation to God, is a good thing. It is the idea of striving to be a good person, or at least better than other people, and by striving to be good that will make them right with God. The bible tells us for someone who is in relationship with God, being self-sufficient was not the way they got there. Ephesians 2:8-9 reads, “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, 9 not of works, lest anyone should boast.”
