Last month an 83 year old grad of McMaster university received an unexpected call regarding a ring that has been lost since 1977. It was found in Barbados by a snorkeler. The original owner was found and was quite ecstatic. There is a story in the bible about a lost son who left his home and seemingly destroyed his life and eventually decided to make his way back home and ask for the forgiveness of his father. The fascinating aspect of this story is the response of the father who is pictured as God. The response is not of condemnation for what he did but rather forgiveness upon returning. The father responds by saying, “for this my son was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found. And they began to be merry.”

Are you a late-night eater? Journal Cell Metabolism put out a study that addresses the area of time sensitivity of when we eat. Apparently eating in the evening makes a difference in our hunger levels, the way we burn calories after we eat, and the way we store fat. This study helps explain why late eating is associated with increased obesity risk. That being the case it is important to realize that eating is time sensitive. Did you know that in the Bible salvation is time sensitive. In the book of 2 Corinthians chapter six it reads, “Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.

A man stumbled upon a bottle washed up on a western shore in France. The bottle was tossed into the sea by a fifth grader in Massachusetts 26 years earlier. The message was addressed “Dear beachcomber”. The gentleman was able to read most of the letter and track down the individual who wrote it. Did you know God has a message for humanity and it has traveled literally all over the world but there are still many who need to hear it? A message that is as clear now as it was almost 2000 years ago. A selection of His message reads, For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

More and more people are being drawn to something that does not seem very appealing but has great benefits. Apparently, a cold shower can be affective after a workout as it reduces muscle soreness and inflammation. It can also stimulate the release of endorphins which can reduce stress. Cold in relation to a shower is not something that we commonly think of as a good thing but apparently it is. Did you know that in the Bible there is something associated with God that is a good thing that some people don’t associate. It is the word fear. Proverbs 9:10 reads, “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.

A Canadian auction house is expected to auction off a painting by Emily Carr in the very near future. This treasured painting was bought at a barn sale earlier this year for $50 and is expected to sell for anywhere between 100 – 200 thousand. Did you know that in the Bible Jesus shares a story about finding a treasure. He tells of a man who found a treasure in a field and then went and sold all that he had to buy the field so he could have the treasure. He explains that the treasure is the kingdom of heaven, and we can actually possess it. Jesus also shared the way to the king and kingdom. He said in John 14:6 I am the way and the truth and the life, no one comes to the father but by me.

Gold hit an all-time high last month. Gold prices rose thirty percent in 2024. The trend that seemed to be bringing up the price according to an article by CTV news was a season of uncertainly. Did you know the Bible shares about something worth much more than gold that stands out in uncertainty. It has to do with the faith people hold in Jesus Christ through trials. It reads, “In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while, if need be, you have been grieved by various trials, that the genuineness of your faith, being much more precious than gold that perishes, though it is tested by fire, may be found to praise, honor, and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ.

Buying gifts tends to be a natural part of the Christmas season. With all of this shopping frenzy each person is trying to find the most appropriate gift for the person on their list. Did you know that the Bible describes a particular gift that God gave, and it is in relation to the salvation made possible through the one who’s birthday is celebrated by many on Christmas day, Jesus Christ. The time of Christmas gatherings is heavily upon us. People getting all dressed up to look their best. What a foolish thing if a person was getting ready and looked in the mirror and noticed tooth paste on ones cheek and just left it.! Did you know we are warned in the Bible to not be so foolish to leave tooth paste on our faces? Essentially, we are warned if we see something that needs to be addressed that we address it. In the book of James, it reads, “But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was.

A recent statement by the American Heart Association noted that keeping your brain sharp as you age has a lot to do with your heart. It was noted that the younger you start taking care of your heart the better. It is also important to keep in mind that coronary heart disease is the lead killer in the world. Did you know when Jesus was asked what was the greatest commandment He had something to say about the heart although he was not speaking simply about the organ in your body? He said, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’

Last month, in Germany, a new fire station was destroyed by a fire causing millions of euros in damage. What stood out about this fire was the fact that this brand new fire station did not have a fire alarm system. There was no warning to prevent the tragedy that ensued although a person would of certainly thought there would of been. Thankfully in life God has given us an alarm in His word but not only an alarm but also a way of escape. The warning is found in Romans 3:23 which reads, “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” The way of escape is shared by Jesus Christ in John 14:6, ““I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.”
