The worlds oldest known intact egg was found in a dig in Britain recently with the yoke still inside. It is 1700 years old. There were actually other 1700 year old eggs found in the dig but they were not able to be preserved because they broke open. The smell that came from the eggs was described as “putrid” from an article put out by BBC news. Did you know Jesus described something that was putrid in His day that was not an egg but a characteristic. In describing those whom were self-righteous, He describes them as, “whitewashed tombs which indeed appear beautiful outwardly, but inside are full of dead men’s bones and all uncleanness.”

Rising food prices and other household necessities seem to be resulting in more and more companies using shirkflation. It is a tactic where the volume or weight of a product is reduced but not the price of the product. There is more and more of a push by consumers to get companies to be clear about what a person is getting. Did you know the Bible has information contained in it that outlines with clarity just what a person is getting. 2 Timothy 3:16 reads, All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.

There was something that made the news about a 36 year old alligator at a zoo in Omaha, Nebraska. The alligator has translucent white skin which is very unique but what made the news was what the alligator had been feeding on. Veterinarians identified foreign objects in the alligator that turned out to be coins. The alligator had eaten 70 coins that it had found in the lake. Did you know the Bible instructs us to feed on something that is unique and is absolutely essential for spiritual life. Jesus said in Matthew 4:4 “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.”

CNN reported how a California man narrowly avoided being crushed by a boulder. He stepped out of his parked car when he received a phone call. Just after stepping out a large boulder fell off the hillside crushing his car. His life could of ended in that moment. Did you know the Bible pictures the briefness of life as being like a vapor? Something that appears for a little while and then vanishes away. The Bible also tells us that through embracing Jesus Christ as our Saviour we can know we will be with Him for eternity. Romans 6:23 reads, For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Do you drink enough water every day? A study by the National Institute of Health notes how drinking enough water may help the aging process. A representative from the study noted that proper hydration may slow down aging and prolong a disease-free life. With what we know it is certainly wise to seek to be properly hydrated daily. Did you know the Bible has instructions on proper intake but it does not have to do with water? In the book of 1st Peter it reads, as newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby.” Access to this benefit does not involve turning on the tap but rather grabbing a Bible and reading it.

Snowboarding can be a dangerous sport if you are not careful. A snowboarder from Utah recently realized that to a whole new level. While Charles Duffy was snow boarding at a ski resort in Beaver Mountain he was walking at the top of the hill and was attacked by a mountain lion. Thankfully he reacted by protecting himself and hitting the animal with the snow board and it eventually ran off. Did you know that the Bible gives direction on being aware of ones surroundings that has it source in the spiritual realm. 1 Peter 5:8 reads, Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.

Recently a wallet that was lost 40 years ago in Toronto Eaton Center was returned to the daughter of the original owner. It was found wedged between a wall and some duct work in the Center by an employee doing some repairs. It was a real find. Did you know that in the book of Luke Jesus shares regarding Himself that, “for the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost. We are lost because our sin has separated us from God. We are found when we recognize that the penalty for our sin was paid for by Jesus Christ on the cross and we place our faith and trust in Him for our salvation resulting in a changed life.

Imagine discovering a carton with thousands of unopen hockey cards, from Wayne Gretzky’s rookie year, 1979. This was a reality recently of a family in Saskatchewan. It was a real treasure to find. In the past one of Gretzky’s rookie cards sold for over three million dollars. Did you know in the Bible Jesus shares a story of a man who found a treasure in a field and then went and sold all that he had to buy the field so he could have the treasure. The treasure pictured is the kingdom of heaven and is of infinite worth, but we can actually possess it. Jesus also shared the way into the kingdom. His words from the book of John reads, “I am the way and the truth and the life, no one comes to the father but by me.”

Last month a 20 year old sophomore won the American Express tournament at the PGA golf course in La Quinta California. Unfortunately, because this individual did not have pro status, he was disqualified from being able to collect the prize. The prize was 1.5 million dollars. Thankfully for those who have embraced Jesus Christ as ones Savior there is a prize waiting that has been secured by God himself. John 3:16 reads, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” The ultimate prize is the reality of same day being in the very presence of God Himself.

When you have to sneeze do you hold it in? Recently a man in Dundee Scotland tore a hole in his windpipe by pinching his nose and keeping his mouth shut during a sneezing episode. Such a result is a rare occurrence, but it can happen. Did you know the Bible says there are times that it is wise to hold back? This has no reference to sneezing but rather responding. In the book of Proverbs it reads, “A soft answer turns away wrath, But a harsh word stirs up anger.” Unfortunately we have a lot of opportunities to apply this wisdom. The next time you feel like responding with something harsh, hold it back and instead give a soft answer and see how things go.
