February 8 Shortest Month of the Year

We are into February. Winter is passing us by, but it is not over yet. The next thing you know it will be March. March can sneak up on you with February being the shortest month of the year. Do you know something else that is short. The Bible describes life as short. It describes life as being like a vapor. Something that appears for a little while and then vanishes away. The Bible also tells us that through embracing Jesus Christ as our Saviour we can know we will be with Him for eternity. Romans 6:23 reads, For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

February 6 Follow Through

We are into February and I have to ask, how have you been doing with your New Years Resolution? Did you spend a lot of time planning on what you were going to do? Are you struggling with following up or is it already a memory? Leadership expert John Maxwell has been quoted as saying, “much time is spent setting goals, but not enough time is spent on follow-through.” Here is something to consider. Why not get back to focusing on the follow through. Why not focus on making today count. In the Bible, in the book of Psalms it speaks of focusing on the day. It reads, “This is the day the LORD has made; We will rejoice and be glad in it.”

February 1 Scientific Breakthrough

CNN reported recently what researchers are calling a scientific breakthrough. It has to do with to with there being an increased number of colds in the winter among a given population. It turns out the cold air itself damages the immune response occurring in the nose hence an increased likelihood of catching a cold in the winter. In the Bible, in the book of Isaiah, a diagnosis is shared as well as the cause although the result is not a surprise. It reads, But your iniquities have separated you from your God; And your sins have hidden His face from you, So that He will not hear.” Thankfully you can find a cure to this in Jesus Christ.

January 30 6 Pillars of Health

The Women’s brain Health Initiative shared in a CTV article recently about 6 ways people can reduce the chance of developing cognitive decline and brain disorders. All six are somewhat common sense but a person has to be diligent to pursue each one. Five of them are eat healthy foods, reduce stress, exercise, learn new tasks, stay socially connected and can you guess the last one? Get a good night’s rest. In the Bible Jesus shares about the importance of rest although he is not talking about sleep. He says, Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

January 27 Car Submerged with a Family of Four Inside

Last month two good Samaritans from Louisiana jumped into the water to rescue a family after the family’s car crashed into a canal and became submerged in the water. Due to the water, thick mud and marsh the family were not able to get out on their own. It was a terrifying experience for the family but thankfully they were successfully rescued. Did you know there is a rescue shared about in the Bible that is absolutely amazing and is successful for all who take part? John 3:16 reads, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”

January 25 Identify the Culprit

Last month Fox News shared how Texas police said they apprehended a “reckless driver” who rammed a truck into two cars and were very surprised to identify the culprit. The police were surprised to find that a dog had apparently set the vehicle in motion by bouncing around while waiting in the truck. Let me ask you, “is there an unsuspecting culprit in your live that is destroying your outlook on life?” In the Bible there is direction for followers of Jesus Christ that addresses a culprit that can wreak havoc. The culprit is un-thankfullness. The means to address this is found in 1 Thessalonians 5:18, “in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”

January 23 Eating Ultra Processed Foods

In a study put out last month by JAMA Neurology it was noted that if twenty percent of your calorie intake consists of ultra processed foods you may be raising your risks of cognitive decline. Frozen pizzas and ready-to-eat meals may make our busy lives easier but you have to use some caution. It is wise to watch what you eat! Did you know the Bible has something very essential to share regarding not what we eat but what we think. A way of thinking that is available for a person whom has experienced salvation through Jesus Christ? It reads, “And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.”

January 20 Hearing Aids a Help In Preventing Dementia

A study was published last month in JAMA Neurology that proposed that managing hearing loss may help prevent or delay cognitive decline and dementia. Within the study group the use of hearing aids was associated with a nineteen percent reduction in long term cognitive decline with those whom needed hearing aids and used them. Did you know the Bible shares how essential hearing is in the context of faith. It is not necessary that a person literally hears this truth but rather comes to know it and embrace it. Romans 10:17 reads, “So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”

January 18 In Desperate Shape

Recently three people were found sitting on a ship’s rudder having survived an 11 day voyage from Nigeria. The Spanish coast guard rescued three people who were stowed on top of the rudder of a ship in desperate shape. Did you know in this life we are all spiritually in desperate shape before being rescued? The Bible tells us, “For the wages of sin is death”. That places us in desperate shape because we have all sinned but thankfully the rest of that verse reads, “but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Receiving this gift is made possible through a person recognizing their need of forgiveness of sin and placing their faith and trust in Jesus Christ as their Savior and living for Him.

January 16 Tea Time Can Be Very Beneficial for Your Health

According to an Australian study put out recently putting the kettle on every day could be key to a healthy life. The study assessed more than 800 elderly woman and found that flavonoids found in beverages such as black and green tea could lead to notable health benefits. Did you know the Bible points out nutritional advice in relation to reading it? 1 Peter 2:2 it is written, “as newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby”. It is interesting because the benefits of the bible are like tea in the sense like tea if you just leave the tea bags in the cupboard and do not brew them you do not experience the benefits. With the Bible if it remains on the bookshelf and you don’t read it there is no spiritual benefit.
