January 13 Be On Guard

A number of years ago, while we were shopping, my wife had her purse stolen. It was not ripped off here arm but rather a person bumped into her, managed to take my wife’s purse without her realizing, and then left. It was stolen and she did not even know it happened. I don’t know if you realize it or not but our contentment can be like that. We can be content with what we have or what we have accomplished and then we see someone who has more or has accomplished more and our contentment is stolen. In the Bible, in the book of Philippians the writer shares, “for I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content.” He also shares how he experienced this ability, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”

January 11 Quite an Upset

Looking back at the Fifa World Cup in Qutar there were a number of interesting upsets. One of the greatest upsets was, possibly the greatest upset in World Cup History, Argentina losing to Saudi Arabia. It was such an upset the Saudi government made the next day a national holiday and gave each player a gift they never imagined. Each player was given a Rolls Rice Phantom. Did you know there is an upset shared about in the Bible that changes a person’s trajectory for eternity. This upset is actually made possible as a result of a gift. Ephesians 2:8-9 reads “ For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.

January 9 Look Up

This year, a very unique villa in the heart of Rome will be auctioned off at a starting price of 350 million dollars. What makes this villa so unique is that it has a ceiling mural by the Italian painter Caravaggio. The mural covers approximately 30 square feet. That would bring the value of the ceiling to somewhere around 11 and a half million a square foot. That would be quite a site to look up at. Did you know in the Bible there is direction given to look up at something that is absolutely magnificent? It the Bible there is direction given by Jesus Christ regarding his second coming and signs that will be given. He instructs his followers present during those signs to, look up and lift up your heads, because your redemption draws near.”

January 6 Undisputable Nutritional Fact

Many years ago Socrates said, “Thou shouldest eat to live, not live to eat.” Socrates was pointing out that the most important aspect of food is ultimately the nutrition it provides. Did you know the Bible points out nutritional advice in relation to reading it? 1 Peter 2:2 reads, “as newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby”. The spiritual nutritional fact pointed out here is a Bible does not benefit a person unless the person reads it. It is like buying a jug a milk and putting it in your fridge. It is of absolutely no nutritional value to you personally, unless you take that milk out of the fridge and drink it. A Bible only benefits you if you read it.

January 4 Criminal Record Removed

Have you ever seen an advertisement promoting the possibility of having one’s criminal record removed? Imagine not being able to travel because of something that comes up from your past whenever you get to the border? The Bible tells us of a way we can have our sins before God removed. It tells us of a way we can have a clean record. This is made possible by a person being sorry for their sin and trusting in what Jesus did on the cross as a payment for their sin. Causing a person from then on to see sin differently and God differently and live differently. This clearance is spoken of in Psalm 103:12 which reads, “As far as the east is from the west, So far has He removed our transgressions from us.”

January 2 The New Year is Upon Us

The year 2023 is upon us. People are looking ahead to accomplish something that is praiseworthy. Did you know the Bible outlines something to accomplish that is truly praiseworthy that outshines anything else we could experience. It is accomplished through Jesus Christ? It is knowing God! In the book Jeremiah it reads, “Thus says the LORD: “Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, Let not the mighty man glory in his might, Nor let the rich man glory in his riches; But let him who glories glory in this, That he understands and knows Me, That I am the LORD, exercising lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness in the earth. For in these I delight,” says the LORD.

December 30 Not Being Consumed

Recently the U.S. coast guard launched an air and sea mission to rescue 13 people, including a child from fishing vessel. The vessel was about 100 kilometers off shore before it became consumed with water and sank. Do you ever feel like there are so many hardships in life that you are going to be consumed? The Bible informs us that there will be hardships, storms that will occur in our lives but it has instruction in regard to the proper focus during those storms. The focus is not to be on the storms but on God. In the book of Isaiah it reads, “You will keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you because he trusts in you.

December 28 Early Detection of Dementia

A new study from the university of Cambridge indicates it may be possible to detect dementia a decade before an individual is diagnosed. The new findings make is possible to screen at-risk patients who qualify for early medical treatment. Those considered to be of a higher risk are those over fifty whom have high blood or do not do enough exercise. Did you the Bible tells us there is something that all of humanity has to treat that we have all been infected with? Romans 3:23 reads, “for all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.” Thankfully the treatment for our sin has been made available and is accessible through the person of Jesus Christ.

December 26 Girl Found after 5 months after searching

Last month Fox news reported how a Georgia teenager whom had been missing for five months had been located and reunited with her family. The now 17 year old was 16 when she climbed out her second story bedroom window. At the time she left without her phone, that had been confiscated after her parents found out she had been communicating with strangers online. One can only imagine how fervently her parents would have been searching for her. Did you know the Bible shares about a search that God is fervently on. It is shared about in 2 Chronicles which reads, “For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose heart is loyal to Him.

December 23 Getting Ready for Christmas

The time of Christmas gatherings is heavily upon us. People getting all dressed up to look their best. What a foolish thing if a person was getting ready and looked in the mirror and noticed mustard on his or her face and just left it.! Did you know we are warned in the Bible to not be so foolish to leave mustard on our faces? Essentially, we are warned if we see something that needs to be addressed that we address it. In the book of James, it reads, “But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was.
