CNN put out an article recently entitled 5 ways to support your brain to function and reduce the risk of decline. The five things consist of: seeking out positive relationships; focusing on your belly size because apparently as the belly grows the memory center shrinks; tracking your blood sugar; adding resistance to your cardio exercise; and finally seeking to relax and breath deeply when stressed. Did you know the bible has instruction when it comes to the brain in relation to what a follower of Jesus Christ is thinking. It reads, “And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.”

The official journal of the college of family physicians of Canada has noted recently that insomnia is one of the most common health concerns in Canada. It impacts over eighteen percent of men and over 29 percent of women. It affects a person’s mental health, physical health, and a ones ability to function properly throughout the day. The ability to get a good night sleep is not something to take for granted. Did you know in the bible Jesus does not teach on sleep but he does provide direction for rest. He says, “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”

An on-line scam that made the news recently on CTV had to do with investmenting. The individual that was scammed is 82 years old and lives in Oakville, Ontario. He was scammed out of 750 thousand dollars. He was searching online for “the best rates for a GIC”. He was taken to a fake website that presented itself as PC financial and from there the online thieves began the process of stealing his money. In the Bible Jesus warns us to be aware of a thief and this thief is out for more than just your money. Jesus says, The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.

Some of the benefits of oatmeal are: it can decrease cholesterol and blood sugar; it can boost your immune system; it can help with digestion; it is nutrient dese. Eating oatmeal may help you live longer. Did you know the Bible addresses not simply living longer but living eternally with God. In the book of John it reads, For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

Recently in Australia an endangered flower bloomed with many watching at the Royal Botanical Gardens. The flower is called the corpse flower. This beautiful plant that blooms once a year for twenty four hours has been described as smelling like “rotten flesh, with notes of old fish and decayed cabbage”. In Jesus day He makes a comparison of something that appears to be beautiful but has a disgusting element to it. What Jesus describes is self-righteousness. In describing the self-righteous religious rulers of His day, He describes them as, “whitewashed tombs which indeed appear beautiful outwardly, but inside are full of dead men’s bones and all uncleanness.” Not a picture you would want to emulate!

Recently a gentleman from Australia was concerned to witness six venomous red-bellied snakes slither into a mulch pile in his back yard. He called a snake catcher who came and bagged 102 pregnant and newborn snakes. Can you imagine how that man felt? The fear with a venomous snake is getting bit and having the venom inside of you. Did you know in a spiritual sense the Bible tells us we have all been bit by something and have venom inside of us. Romans 3:23 reads, “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” Romans 6:23 tells us of the effects but thankfully a cure that has been made available, “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

What is the best position to sleep in? Do you every question how you are positioned when you sleep? According to an article put out by the Sleep Foundation you should. During your sleep your body works to repair itself and the proper position acts as an aid in this process. Apparently sleeping on your stomach is the worst position while sleeping on your side or back is more beneficial. Did you know the Bible has something to say, not about sleep but rest. In the book of Matthew, Jesus says, Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

Fox News recently shared details from a report by BMJ Nutrition, Prevention and Health that suggest drinking carbonated water may support weight loss by enhancing glucose uptake and metabolism in red blood cells increasing the feeling of fullness. Drinking carbonated water apparently helps a person feel full. Did you know Jesus shared about water that does not simply have physical benefits but has infinite spiritual benefits. This water is in reference to the Holy Spirit. He said, “He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.”

There has been a lot of debate recently about a painting that was bought at a garage sale back in 2016. The debate is whether or not it was originally painted by Van Gogh. It has generated a lot of interest and it is estimated, if it is determined it is the real deal, the painting could sell for as much as 15 million at an auction. Did you know spiritually a lot of people question if Jesus is the real deal. People question if He is the means to get right with God. It is interesting because we have the words of Jesus and in His own words, He presents His case and He does not leave any room for doubt. In book of John chapter fourteen verse six Jesus is recorded saying, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.”
