According to research walking backwards can be good for your brain and physical health. The practice of walking backwards for health reasons is thought to have originated in ancient China. There are reports from ancient China of people walking not only hundreds but in some cases thousands of miles backwards. Apparently walking backwards has received attention from researchers from the United States as a way of improving sports performance. Did you know the Bible has insight for followers of Jesus Christ in relation to ones walk that seems out of the norm but it is in reference to a spiritual nature. 2 Corinthians 5:7 reads, “For we walk by faith, not by sight.”

Are you careful when you transfer money online? A gentleman from Ontario was shocked to find out that when intending to put money towards his son’s education he mistakenly transferred $5000 into the account of a stranger. Thankfully the bank eventually got things straightened out and returned the funds to the sender. Did you know the Bible teaches of an account transfer that is available through faith in Christ that we will want to get right? Second Corinthians 5:21 reads, “For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.” Through faith in Jesus resulting in a changed life a person receives, before God, the righteousness of Jesus upon their lives.

According to an article put out by CNN you can reduce your risk of early natural death, for any reason, by twenty percent just by eating more foods from your choice of four healthy eating patterns. I am sure many people read the article because they were concerned with living longer. Did you know the Bible addresses not simply living longer but living eternally with God. That should get everyone’s attention! In the book of John it reads, For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

When you have to sneeze do you hold it in? A man in Dundee Scotland tore a hole in his windpipe by pinching his nose and keeping his mouth shut during a sneezing episode. Such a result is a rare occurrence, but it can happen. Did you know the Bible says there are times that it is wise to hold back? This has no reference to sneezing but rather responding. In the book of Proverbs it reads, “A soft answer turns away wrath, But a harsh word stirs up anger.” Unfortunately we have a lot of opportunities to apply this wisdom. The next time you feel like responding with something harsh, hold it back and instead give a soft answer and change the dynamic of the conversation.

There was something that made the news about a 36 year old alligator at a zoo in Omaha, Nebraska. The alligator has translucent white skin which is very unique but what made the news was what the alligator had been feeding on. Veterinarians identified foreign objects in the alligator that turned out to be coins. The alligator had eaten 70 coins that it had found in the lake. Did you know the Bible instructs us to feed on something that is unique and is absolutely essential for spiritual life. Jesus said in Matthew 4:4 “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.”

Have you ever seen an advertisement promoting the possibility of having one’s criminal record removed? Imagine not being able to travel because of something that comes up from your past? The Bible tells us of a way we can have our sins before God removed. It tells us of a way we can have a clean record. This is made possible by a person being sorry for their sin and trusting in what Jesus did on the cross as a payment for their sin. Causing a person from then on to see sin differently and God differently and live differently. This clearance is spoken of in Psalm 103:12 which reads, “As far as the east is from the west, So far has He removed our transgressions from us.”

A saying that is often quoted this time of year depending on the weather in reference to March is, “In like a lion and out like a lamb”. It is a saying that has stood the test of time. One of the earliest citations is from a book containing a number of sayings written in 1732 but only the insight regarding March has held up over time. Did you know there is a saying in the Bible about a lamb that has not only held up over time but is just as relevant today as it was nearly 2000 years ago. It is spoken by John the Baptist in reference to Jesus Christ and what He would accomplish. It reads, “Behold, The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!

Last month an evacuation alarm was sent and read by nearly 10 million people in LA county who were already on edge from surrounding wildfires. This obviously created a great deal of panic, but it was sent in error and turned out to be a software glitch. Did you know there is a warning presented in the Bible that has been read literally millions of times but in this case, there is no mistake? In the book of Romans it reads, “for the wages of sin is death”. Death meaning future separation from God. That is the warning but thankfully that same verse presents a sure way of escape, “but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Recently Jasdeep Singh from Windsor Ontario completed a rare feet. He had a goal to run a marathon in each of the seven continents. The last marathon he ran was in Antarctica which completed his goal. He highly values running and has greatly benefited from taking part in it. Did you know the Bible pictures running to teach a valuable lesson. In the book of Philippians it reads, “Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.”

Last month William A. Connelly, a 100 year old retired Army Cornel was honored at Walt Disney Magic Kingdom in Orlando Florida. Connelly stood proud and tall as he saluted the flag. He looked surprisingly youthful for his age and was later asked his secret and his response to his long life was to “having happy people around you.” This is great insight, but it has limitations. Did you know the Bible makes it known there is a way to live with God forever. John 3:16 reads, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
