This month there is an auction planned for a hoard of gold coins found in a house that was renovated in Northern England. According to a press release sent to CNN it is one of the biggest hoards of gold coins ever uncovered in Britain. It is estimated to sell for close to three hundred thousand US dollars. Imagine discovering such a treasure. In the Bible Jesus shares a story of a man who found a treasure in a field and then went and sold all that he had to buy the field so he could have the treasure. The treasure pictured is the kingdom of heaven and is of infinite worth but we can actually possess it. Jesus also shared the way into the kingdom. He said in John 14:6 I am the way and the truth and the life, no one comes to the father but by me.

Recently it was reported by a number of news agencies what the late Queen Elizabeth ate every day since she was a toddler. The information was given by her former chef of 11 years. Apparently, Queen Elizabeth ate bread and jam every day. It may not have been the secret to her vitality but it is interesting. Did you know the Bible shares the importance of bread when it comes not simply to health but to eternal life? In John 6:35 it reads, “And Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst.” What Jesus is saying is that He is essential for real life not only for the here and now but for eternity.

In an article entitled The Importance of Good Parent-Child Communication, it notes how the communication process with your children is effective when you take it to three levels: listening; creating an environment of trust; spending more time with your child. The fact is good communication is key to any vital relationship. Did you know the Bible makes it clear that God invites His children to communicate with Him? Do you ever want to get away from all of the distractions of our electronic age? If so you may want to go to Greenbank, West Virginia. It is known as the “the quietest town in America”. It is also home to the world’s largest steerable radio telescope. The telescope needs “quiet” to “listen” to naturally occurring radio waves. A 13,000 square-mile is established to prevent electronic interference to the telescope’s extreme sensitivity. The intentional quiet allows the scientists to hear the “music of the spheres.” Did you know that we are encouraged in the Bible to take time to limit the distractions in our own lives and listen? In the Bible in the book of Psalms it reads, “Be still, and know that I am God.” Are you taking time to be still and are you listening?

Recently California police were looking for a burglar who was caught on video returning to the scene of a crime. He took petty cash as well as some other goods from Johnny Doughnuts’ corporate bay office. What apparently happened was when he originally went to rob the office he mistakenly dropped his own keys and left them behind. On his return, which was caught on camera, he is seen frantically looking for his own keys. This gentleman is a robber but apparently not very good at being one. Did you know the Bible Jesus warns us about a robber who is very good at what he does? In John 10:10 it reads, “The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.”

Last month ABC news reported a warning by the United Nations Chief in which he stated that “humanity is just one misunderstanding, one miscalculation away from nuclear annihilation,” citing the war in Ukraine, nuclear threats in Asia and the Middle East and many other factors. The dilemma with such a warning is what needs to be done in order to address the problem. The solutions are primarily dependent on the actions of various world leaders. Did you know the Bible presents a warning that is of infinite importance? In the book of Romans chapter 3 it reads, “for the wages of sin is death.” That is an extremely far reaching warning because that involves all of humanity. Thankfully the rest of the verse presents a solution that has been made accessible. It reads, “but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Last month there were a lot of expressions of admiration in relation to a picture posted by a French Scientist in which he shared his admiration of the clarity of the photo of the nearest star to the sun. He expressed praise of the ability of the James Webb Space telescope in its ability of being able to take a picture with such clarity. A number of people tweeted in response to the detail of the photograph and there was a lot of admiration until an hour after the original tweet that the French scientist shared that the picture he tweeted was actually a picture of a slice of spicy sausage called chorizo. Did you know Jesus shared a teaching about appearance but it did not have to do with food or stars but has to do with people. He said, “Do not judge according to appearance, but judge with righteous judgment.”

CNN health shared an article recently entitled, “Cognitive decline linked to ultraprocessed foods. According to a new study eating ultraprocessed foods for more than twenty percent of your daily calorie intake everyday increases the likelihood of cognitive decline. In the study those who ate the most ultraprocessed foods had a twenty-eight percent faster rate of global decline than those who ate the least. It is wise to watch what you eat but did you know the Bible has something very essential to share regarding not what we eat but what we think. A way of thinking that is available for a person whom has experienced salvation through Jesus Christ? It reads, “And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.”

Last month a passenger traveling from Bali, Indonesia to Australia had to pay over 1800 American dollars for a breakfast that was stashed away from McDonalds. According to CTV news the traveler had two undeclared egg and beef sausage McMuffins and a ham croissant stashed away in the luggage. I am sure the traveler never realized how serious the fine would be. The Bible also speaks of a serious fine that is infinitely beyond what this traveler faced that so many people do not consider. Romans 6:23 reads, “For the wages of sin is death”. Death in this verse speaks of a future separation from God. Thankfully the rest of the verse reveals a way to avoid experiencing this fine, “but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Recently CTV news shared of an amazing invention by a British startup called XRAI glass. This British startup is behind the technology that could allow millions who are deaf or hard of hearing to see in-person conversations they cannot hear. The way this works is a person puts on a pair of glass fitted with this technology and the information gets transmitted and displayed on the glasses through an app on a person’s phone. Imagine the information a person whom could not hear could gain from such technology. Did you know the Bible speaks of information that a person should gain and benefit from? Proverbs 2:6 reads, “For the LORD gives wisdom; From His mouth come knowledge and understanding.” Like looking at the writing in the glasses, unless you look at what God has said in the Bible you miss out on the wisdom that is readily available.
