Fox News reported recently how a two year old boy made a full recovery in Uganda after a brave bystander rescued him from the jaws of an angry hippopotamus. The hippo seized the boy from the head and swallowed half his body before he was forced to release him. Did you know there is a future account covered in the bible, for a follower of Jesus Christ, that pictures something being swallowed. 1 Corinthians 15:54 reads, So when this corruptible has put on incorruption, and this mortal has put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written: “Death is swallowed up in victory.”

A recent study by the National Institute of Health notes how drinking enough water may help the aging process. A representative from the study noted, “The results suggest that proper hydration may slow down aging and prolong a disease-free life. With what we know it is certainly wise to seek to be properly hydrated daily. Did you know the Bible has instructions on proper intake but it does not have to do with water? In the book of 1st Peter it reads, as newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby.” Access to this benefit does not involve turning on the tap but rather grabbing a Bible and reading it.

Fox news reported recently how two men and a dog were lost at sea for ten days after they set sail from New Jersey to Florida. They were safely recovered by a tanker that saw them drifting at sea. After being retrieved the men said they relied on prayer and were miraculously saved. In the storm they feared their ship was going to be consumed by the 40 foot waves. Did you know the bible informs us that there will be hardships, storms that will occur in our lives but it has instruction in regard to the proper focus during those storms. It is not to be on the storms but on God. In the book of Isaiah, chapter 26 verse 3 it reads, “You will keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you because he trusts in you.

CNN put our an article recently entitled, “Here’s how to live longer new study says.” According the new study apparently you can reduce your risk of early natural death, for any reason, by twenty percent just by eating more foods from your choice of four healthy eating patterns. I am sure many people read the article because they were concerned with living longer. Did you know the Bible addresses not simply living longer but living eternally with God. That should get everyone’s attention! In the book of John it reads, For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

Global news reported recently that Japan is going to soon start paying money to get people to move away from Tokyo. The capital city is overcrowded and in an attempt to address that families will be paid over $10,000 per child to leave the city. They are sending a clear message they do not want people to come and live in the city but rather leave. In the Bible there is an invitation to come and there is no limit on the number. In the book of Matthew Jesus says, Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

We are into February. Winter is passing us by, but it is not over yet. The next thing you know it will be March. March can sneak up on you with February being the shortest month of the year. Do you know something else that is short. The Bible describes life as short. It describes life as being like a vapor. Something that appears for a little while and then vanishes away. The Bible also tells us that through embracing Jesus Christ as our Saviour we can know we will be with Him for eternity. Romans 6:23 reads, For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

We are into February and I have to ask, how have you been doing with your New Years Resolution? Did you spend a lot of time planning on what you were going to do? Are you struggling with following up or is it already a memory? Leadership expert John Maxwell has been quoted as saying, “much time is spent setting goals, but not enough time is spent on follow-through.” Here is something to consider. Why not get back to focusing on the follow through. Why not focus on making today count. In the Bible, in the book of Psalms it speaks of focusing on the day. It reads, “This is the day the LORD has made; We will rejoice and be glad in it.”

CNN reported recently what researchers are calling a scientific breakthrough. It has to do with to with there being an increased number of colds in the winter among a given population. It turns out the cold air itself damages the immune response occurring in the nose hence an increased likelihood of catching a cold in the winter. In the Bible, in the book of Isaiah, a diagnosis is shared as well as the cause although the result is not a surprise. It reads, But your iniquities have separated you from your God; And your sins have hidden His face from you, So that He will not hear.” Thankfully you can find a cure to this in Jesus Christ.

The Women’s brain Health Initiative shared in a CTV article recently about 6 ways people can reduce the chance of developing cognitive decline and brain disorders. All six are somewhat common sense but a person has to be diligent to pursue each one. Five of them are eat healthy foods, reduce stress, exercise, learn new tasks, stay socially connected and can you guess the last one? Get a good night’s rest. In the Bible Jesus shares about the importance of rest although he is not talking about sleep. He says, Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Last month two good Samaritans from Louisiana jumped into the water to rescue a family after the family’s car crashed into a canal and became submerged in the water. Due to the water, thick mud and marsh the family were not able to get out on their own. It was a terrifying experience for the family but thankfully they were successfully rescued. Did you know there is a rescue shared about in the Bible that is absolutely amazing and is successful for all who take part? John 3:16 reads, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”
