Worlds Most Expensive Car – July 6

Recently Mercedes sold the worlds most expensive car. It sold a 1955 Mercedes-Benz SLR coup. This car sold for a record breaking 142 million US dollars. The previous record was in 2018 with the sale of 1963 Ferrari which sold for 70 million. These cars are unattainable treasures. Did you know that in the Bible we are made aware of a treasure that is valued infinitely beyond the worth of any car but we can in fact possess it? Jesus shared a story of a man who found a treasure in a field and then went and sold all that he had to buy the field so he could have the treasure. The treasure is the kingdom of heaven. Jesus also shared the way into the kingdom. He said in John 14:6 I am the way and the truth and the life, no one comes to the father but by me.

Go On Dates – July 4

This month my wife, Trisha, and I will have been married for 26 years. Something we intentionally invest into is going on dates together. Friday night in typically our date night. We spend intentional time together to invest into our relationship. I believe there are a lot of people who have a wrong perception of the Bible in how it plays out in one’s relationship to God. They view it as a book in which a person simply gains knowledge from. Now while there is a wealth of information in the Bible, the main purpose of reading it is not to simply gain knowledge. I view reading my Bible as a means of investing into my relationship with God. Hebrews 11:6 reads but without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. Reading one’s Bible is a way God has provided for us to seek Him!

Bottom of the Well June 29

In South Carolina Last month a fourteen year old teen was rescued by firefighters after being trapped inside a 40 foot well. Before being rescued the firefighters made voice contact with the teenager who was treading water and holding onto the pipes in the well. Imagine how thankful the teen would have been to hear the firefighters at the top of the well knowing they were there to perform a rescue. A fire fighter was lowered into the well to extract the teenager from the well. It was a successful rescue effort! Did you know there is a rescue shared about in the Bible, that is absolutely amazing, and is successful for all who take part? John 3:16 reads, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”

Choose Wisely June 27

Last month an Ontario woman whom had her wallet stolen warned people in a news article about wisely choosing a pin for your credit card. Within two hours of her wallet being stolen she had more than twenty thousand dollars in fraudulent purchases. Over $9000 were from her Royal Bank of Canada cards. She was eventually asked by the fraud department at RBC if she used a pin associated with her birthday. Her answer was “yes”. This meant that all of the purchases that were made, nearly $9000, with the use of her pin were not going to reimbursed. She has since been cautioning people about choosing a pin wisely. Did you know in the Bible Jesus shares about choosing the way to heaven wisely? He actually presents the only option in John 14:6 in which He says, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.

Get It Right June 24

CTV news Vancouver reported recently about a couple whom listed two cabins on the market 5 years ago but never ended up having a sale go through. What made the story news worthy was they were issued a bill from the real estate company in commissions for $52,500. What the couple came to realize was they had signed an enforceable contract of sale even though the cabins never sold. They agreed to something without fully looking into the consequences of doing so. Did you know there are a lot of people whom are told they can get right with God by simply being a good person and they believe it. If they were to look further into this they would see that in the Bible Jesus says, “He is the way” and it also shares in the book of Ephesians that, “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.”

Expressing Gratitude June 22

Recently CNN shared a story about a woman named Ayda Zugay, living in Boston, who fled from the former Yugoslavia with her sister in 1999. At the time she was a 12 year old refugee and she met a woman on the plane who handed her an envelope and made her promise not to open the letter until she got off the plane. When she had gotten off she opened the letter and found dangly earrings and a $100 bill inside and a short word of encouragement signed Tracy. That gift and encouragement literally changed her life and meant so much to her that she has been searching for Tracy ever since desiring to share her gratitude. In the Bible, in Psalms 103 the writer shares his gratitude in relation to God which should be a natural expression for all whom have experienced His goodness. He writes, Bless the LORD, O my soul; And all that is within me, bless His holy name!

Switching Planes June 20

Recently authorities were investigating the crash of one of two planes in the Arizona dessert that were part of a Red Bull stunt in which two pilots attempted to swap planes in mid-air. One of the pilots was successful but the other could literally not catch his plane. Thankfully both pilots were wearing parachutes. Did you know the Bible informs us about something that is necessary for eternal life that is out of our reach? Romans 3:23 reads, “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” Falling short of this has tragic results! Later on in that same book there is a verse that reads, for the wages of sin is death. Death meaning separation from God when this life comes to an end. Thankfully the rest of that same verse has wonderful news if we apply it to our lives, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Real Success June 17

In are article put out by CareerZOT entitled 8 Simple Ways to Be Successful – from 8 Inspiring Leaders it lists the various ways to be successful as: be passionate; work hard; strive for greatness; focus; push the limits; serve; create ideas; be persistent. Did you know Jesus shared an essential quality that is necessary in order to experience success in experiencing eternal life? In the book of Matthew He says, “blessed are the poor in Spirit, for theirs in the kingdom of heaven.” Being poor in spirit speaks of one whom recognizes they are not able to obtain heaven due to his/her own efforts. The Bible goes on to share how a person goes about experiencing eternal life in the book of Ephesians, “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.

Summer is coming June 15

The official first day of Summer is June 21st. Many are planning on going on a vacation. Whether a person takes time off while staying at home or getting away there will be a break of one form or another. Something that we all know about vacation is it passes by quickly. It is here and then the next thing you know it is gone. It is interesting because the Bible describes our very lives as being here and then they are gone. In the book of 1 Peter our lives are referred to as, “our stay here.” It does not last long. In the book of James our lives are pictured as being like a vapor that appears for a little while and then vanishes away. Thankfully, the Bible tells us this life is not the end. In 1 John we are told a way in which life, real life can continue on, it is written, “And this is the testimony: that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son.”

Not Enough Sleep June 13

If you are trying to get by on about six hours or less of sleep a night during the workweek, you are setting your brain up for future failure, according to a new study published last month in the journal, Nature Communications. In the study it was found that persistent short sleep duration between the ages of 50 and 70 was associated with a 30 percent increase of dementia risk. This was determined after following nearly 8000 people for 25 years. In the Bible in the book of Matthew Jesus shares about the importance of rest although he is not talking about sleep. He says, Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
